I ate TikTok users’ SCHOOL LUNCHES from Different Countries

[Music] [Music] we are going to start with our korean school lunch and this one is not really a bento box it's more like a traditional very much like school lunch try so there's variety in this video we're also gonna cover packed lunches that people pack from home the reason why i'm giving you the behind the scenes of preparing the foods is because i always get a lot of questions where the foods come from and i want to show you that it is as traditional kind of as you can get so this comes from a korean restaurant on this side of the tray and i think my choice exactly the same it's basically just rice i've been to school in two different countries in portugal and also in the uk and none of my school lunches ever ever had this much variety so it's probably gonna be a depressive video to watch if you're currently going to school the second dish is this kind of like a seaweed traditional korean soup which also has beef in it i think this is literally one of the most popular traditional dishes in korea obviously i i would know so it's beef seaweed it looks very similar to what the person was eating in the video i made sure that we got this from the most traditional korean restaurant that i could find okay i kind of want to show you but if i do i'm just going to spill the whole thing if i'm doing a terrible job i'm just never going to go to any of these countries just to avoid people waiting on me at the airport to beat me up in the center in this one i think the ingredient is this it's kind of like korean radish it's a very popular side dish in korea except mine is cut in this like kind of like spaghetti noodle situation but in the video i think it was cut in cubes so the flavor will be the same just cut differently this is possibly my least favorite korean side dish it's the only one that i like it's not my favorite how incredible does this look so this is basically also the traditional dish in korea which is a squid i can't remember the name of the dish i'm not gonna attempt to say it so this is actually squid the one in the video the one that they were eating in school the cut of the squid was different it was kind of like the calamari rings this one is more like octopus i think i'm trying to look at the image to do this exactly the same so i think in this one it goes to calamari i mean this is an insane school lunch this is better than it's better than any restaurant that i've been to it smells spicy but it smells so good so the only dish left that we've got to prepare is the topokey sausage skewers i couldn't find them anywhere because this recipe was very much like a traditional restaurant so they didn't do the topwaki skewers but they do these koreans too and the ingredients are basically all in here using a chopstick we're going to prepare ourselves so we're going to start with the pork sausages these are just like those tiny little party sausages i have no idea i'm going to do this this is very difficult we might be onto something here yep i mean it is good enough this topic is actually cut in very irregular shapes like this is not going to look as good as one in the video but just trust me this is exactly the same i think this is like covering like a gorju chang sauce i'm trying to find a very good piece of choco key hey maybe oh this one looks good i'm just gonna stick the top cookie because i ordered this earlier this is kind of so that's the topokey it's not exactly the perfectly round shape from the video but it's good enough i'm gonna do another of those tiny little sausages why is this actually satisfying and also the best part of this gonna be the leftovers and one more of the sausages i don't know if it's exactly the same but i am happy with this that is basically it so this is basically this is our korean school lunch i would pay so much money for this i guess i just went to school in the wrong country as a side in the video they had this little fruit like ice cream it's a fruit that i've never heard of this is basically pureed date plum or also persimone i don't know if that's how you pronounce it this one is not an ice cream but it's very similar we're gonna dive in and actually give this a rate and compare it to many other countries here we've got our first school lunch so this is a korean school lunch you guys saw the video that inspired this this is the structure i'm gonna use to write these foods we're on a mission to find the best school lunch in the world it's like we got a choice where to attend school but if we did maybe for the next lifetime the video is from a korean tick tock users i don't actually know if this is something they brought from home in a metal tray which i find unlikely or if they actually serve this insane amount of food in korean schools we're going to start with the topokey and sausage skewers oh spicy some people are actually getting this for school lunch i god truly does have favorites it's very spicy but i love them the chocolaty which is basically i think it's is it made of corn flour it's like a doughy thing it's not doughy anymore it's really tough because this doesn't really hold well so the pickled radish which we already know it's not my favorite thing it's sweet and sour i actually like the flavoring on it i'm just not a big fan of pickled radish turns out it's like this beef seaweed soup interesting the way the person in the video ate the soup i don't know if this is like a thing that everyone does in school but i'm gonna do it this honestly is giving me major school flashbacks i don't know why instead of seaweed it was kale same thing kale is a seaweed of the land or seaweed is the kale of the ocean one of those this soup is really good wow i don't know why i can't explain why but this soup tastes like school food though like maybe this is getting too realistic maybe it's the tray it's great considering this is cool food got a lot of things to try so i need to speed up so we can write this this is like a whole tentacle of a octopus is that where squid is okay they might be onto something i was scared this would be really good with rice it's got this like chili it's probably the same korean style sauce from the topokey i do like it this is really good i mean this one is not really the authentic one oh interesting though this was supposed to be iced we got a lot of school lunches to try so i'm gonna do my best at writing this in complete honesty i felt like there was so much variety visually it looks incredible however it kind of tastes like skull food it looks like restaurant quality it still tastes like school food it's not korean fried chicken that's all i'm gonna say for looks i'm gonna say this is a solid nine it looks really good it's incredible for flavor i'm gonna give it a four i think there was room for improvement and because you looked so good i actually got disappointed variety i mean there's no other way to put it this is definitely a 10. if this was something you were gonna bring from home this is not practical at all considering that this one is something that you get served at school i'm gonna say it's definitely not practical there's too many dishes and elements i'm gonna give it a six very much like in the middle i'm gonna do all the maths don't worry about it and in the end i'm gonna tell you which one of the countries is going to be the winners it might be surprising [Music] welcome to i'm never gonna say that ever again so this is france which is a whole country that is basically known for their food standards i was very interested to see what people pack when they go to school i think this lunch might have been made by someone who was going to university so here we've got the vegetables this is going to be not a salad this is just the filling of the sandwich in the video they season the whole of the of the sandwich as if it's a salad and then they just make a sandwich with it i think this is what makes this so interesting is the way people prepare foods differently in different countries i would have never thought of seasoning things like it's a salad and then putting the salad inside bread but it's genius so we've got tiny little pickles wait i don't think they cut the pickles that was a close call i'm just gonna slice it this one is very much like well cooked and then a little bit of tomato which honestly and popular opinion but tomato ruins every sandwich i enjoy tomatoes but only if they're fully cooked in a sauce basically ketchup for the greens this is not lettuce i think this is called this is watercress i'm pretty sure this is what they use this looks incredible this is also this is a lot of work for a sandwich so this is the part that i'm interested in because we've got some pepper as well i think i'm out of pepper this is seasoned salt i'm pretty sure that's what they used in the video because it just looked like it and i guess we're gonna mix everything the salt the olive oil the spices definitely a different way to make sandwiches i would have just put everything in bread with a sauce so we're going to assemble our um this is french yellow mustard i've never used anything that is more fitting in my life so we're going to do one layer each okay this mustard is way too yellow in comparison to the video one but it was a thick layer of mustard we're putting this one in basically a lunchbox because i think this is someone who's going to university or no preschool or like primary school kind of school lunch kind of a grown-up lunchbox in the video they didn't really use like processed ham it was very much like turkey or chicken breast so mine is actually a little bit too thick for this they add the chicken on each side i'm just gonna do one side and last but not least we're gonna basically put our vegetables boiled egg cucumber i'm trying to distribute it this bread is very small for this this is gonna fall apart this is like the height of the eiffel tower it's a lot so we're gonna squish i thought he wasn't gonna be able to hold everything but it does and we're basically going to cut this that's like the best sandwich ever this is better than anything you could buy from any store or cafe or anything actually maybe in france this is just the standard i think this is exactly the same lunchbox they used in the video just in a different color it's two layers as well so i'm gonna get how we're gonna make sure this all fits in here i don't know it's not an easy job i mean it looks incredible it looks exactly the way it did in the video and the second layer is basically the dessert and this is the part that i'm like very excited for now my fingers are gonna smell of tangerine forever i think the option for dessert for the french is very much european because something healthy but also something fun on the side something to make you feel good about yourself and something full of sugar the european way so there's like a little divider in the box it's going to be like the smaller section of the desired layer and here's the most exciting part i actually went and got the macaroons freshly arrived from a french bakery imagine you open your school lunch box and there's macaroons in it oh my god look at this one this one's like pistachio and like i'm trying to get like a variety of colors i'm gonna do four because i can fit more so this is our french school lunch the dessert part of it it looks incredible assembling the whole thing we've got the sandwich in the bottom the macaroons on top this little tray comes with spoons and like the chopsticks and everything i am living my my bento box school lunch tick tock mom fantasy also i just want to say that if this was real life and i had a child in school i would just give them twenty dollars go to mcdonald's i don't know sort it out wait is it macaroons or macarons either way i i probably said it wrong and this is our french school lunch [Music] this one it's truly something we're gonna start by unboxing the dessert and then for the main we've got a sandwich and honestly this looks like a really good sandwich i've only been to friends like one time i know nothing about french culture but doesn't that seem like realistic it's a heavily seasoned sandwich like it's got olive oil seasoning wow that is a very very good sandwich this is kind of the perfect sandwich because it doesn't have that many things but everything serves a purpose like the pickle it's super crunchy the mustard is great the chicken is great honestly a really good sandwich i don't like them it turns out i kind of like it that's weird and this is the macaroon that i've been dying to try there's like three different ones this is amazing [Music] if this was my school lunch i would be very happy i would be triple quadruple happy for look i'm gonna say that everything actually looked pretty incredible i think it's a solid eight flavor like i would think this is a restaurant quality sandwich macaroons best macaroons i've ever had i'm gonna say flavor an eight as well variety it is what it is there's three items on here a5 we gotta be fair practical like how practical is it to make this i guess if you live in france maybe macaroons are easy to find and you don't have to go like a french bakery which is the case for me so putting myself in that perspective i'm gonna say it's a seven i really enjoy this so it's gonna be interesting if it's gonna get better than this at least in terms of flavor it does not get better than this this is salted caramel [Music] finally japan which by the way this is the country that invented bento boxes i obviously expected a lot when i was looking into school lunches in japan in the end i ended up going with something that is actually you know relatively simple in this video interestingly enough the reason for that was because most of the japanese school lunches that i would find were just not realistic they were way too complex had too many different elements some of them feel like a parody of like japanese foods i can't quite explain but i'm happy with the video that i found because this actually came from a japanese user from the japanese side of tiktok it was very difficult to search for this in a different language but i did it the foundation like most of this is actually rice as you saw the rice said something mixed with it which honestly i don't speak japanese i'm only guessing what it is it wouldn't be incorrect to add some green nori sprinkle this is basically a condiment for rice it is very popular in japan and i think people just mix it with rice so that it's not as plain so that is exactly what i'm gonna do how much i don't know it smells incredible so i'm gonna use a spoon for this because this rice is a little bit tough might not be exactly the same but i don't think it's that different roasted black sesame seeds just just a little bit so this is the lunch box that i'm going to use in one layer lunch box except this one is quite a deep one because because we only have one compartment we gotta put a lot of food in here so half of this is gonna be rice i can't really see what's going on okay that's a lot of rice i don't think this is the exact same type of rice but i've googled it and tried to find the information and it's actually a sweet japanese omelet this one i bought it already made from a restaurant i wasn't even going to attempt to make that japanese omelette because i just knew it wasn't going to come out right it was just going to be a white person omelette that's all i've got in my in my wheelhouse my wheelhouse doesn't spin very far i tried to get this from a traditional japanese restaurant but i think the one in the video did look better because with homemade and they put cheese in it but this one is still as traditional as i could produce right now so next to it i'm gonna put the broccoli i just steamed this broccoli in the microwave in the video there was one single tomato uh i found it interesting but we're putting it in there and last but not least i have bought one of these japanese cut steaks i have cooked it myself wow that just looks like brown i cook this in garlic ginger sesame oil and a little bit of soy sauce just in the end so honestly it's looking good and i like that this feels like realistic i can see someone in japan actually preparing this before going to like school college whatever it is so this is our japanese school lunch and honestly i know this one it's a little more simple than probably what you guys were expecting but i actually think this is gonna end up being one of my favorites i don't know maybe [Music] why is this one so tight oh wait there's an air situation so this is our japanese school lunch i am mostly excited for the for the sweet omelet i'm gonna be good and start with the vegetables that's the first in school for me let me try to find a good piece of the omelet oh this one is like a thick one oh no i can't remember what the name is and i'm not gonna try to pronounce it because as a side we've got the steak that i tried to cook in like a traditional japanese kind of way it's a bit tough now but it does taste like sesame sesame oil wow i love the rice this is really good it might not be as crazy and diverse as the one from south korea for example but every single element in here makes sense and i'm gonna be honest this rice with the seasoning is probably the greatest rice i've ever eaten i don't know we went crazy with the seasoning and it works so honestly it's looking good variety we know this is not gonna be the strongest point but i'm gonna say looks wise it looked good to me this is an eight like i really like the look of this flavor it's plain but i can't think of a way to improve anything like i actually think everything tastes amazing i'm gonna give it an eight it's a six for variety i'm gonna say this is an eight when it comes to practicality at the end of the day it's literally three ingredients this is very strong for japan i really enjoy this meal well done japan [Music] for the us this is probably my favorite lunchbox out of the whole thing but it was very important to me that this one would be kind of like a kid's school lunch but specifically in a bento box with different compartments the reason why i wanted that is because that is how i got the idea for this video on take shot my for you page it's just moms preparing lunches for their kids and i love every second of it people also do like two days later revealing what the kids actually ate from school it's like it's kind of like opening a box from a demon like did the demon eat the chicken blood that i put in there i should probably not be comparing children to demons well this is the one that i got comes with like a little protector so that the food doesn't go bad or it doesn't spill it's like rapid themed what am i gonna do with these i i don't know what i might just have my lunch like that from now on we're going to prepare a tortilla wrap i think this is very much accurate to like i don't know it just seems like something that people would actually take for school in america but you guys will let me know so we got the spinach in and then we're gonna put the cheese kind of like that normally i would think this looks incredible but after seeing the french one where they season everything before they make the sandwich there's like a bone in it we love it's kind of sad that there's no sauce or anything but i think the way they make it is was it like this and then wait does that make any sense no american food is difficult it kind of like a burrito and then they fold it because that's the only way we're going to get those when you cut into it to get a little twisty effect it is what it is is it staying kind of this is for a three-year-old they don't go standard honestly i think it's pretty similar i just hope great when you cut into it it kind of has a little twist effect which is i wanted to do that maybe i'm gonna hold it with a fork this is exactly what we need and now we just need to balance this on the wall i love american cuisine we're basically going to assemble the whole thing so i'm kind of trying to remember in the round one the smallest one i think they had the edamame beans these are frozen i just put them in the microwave there's just salt in them that's it because i mean they didn't mention any seasoning in anything i don't blame parents because if i was preparing lunch for my kids and i knew they were probably not gonna eat it if it's not covered in nutella kids won't eat it so what is the point on seasoning it on this big one we're gonna do the butter noodles they're very soft almost too soft to take to school like these would arrive in school kind of like mush it is definitely plain in comparison to a lot of the other things in this video i love noodles though so i think it's gonna taste incredible this was supposed to be goldfish crackers the flavor is the same these are just shaped like miniature little cookies but it's the same kind of biscuits with like cheese flavor i think the lady diced the watermelon really thinly for the child but i'm like i'm sorry if my child choked on watermelon i'm sorry you brought that up on yourself so we got the watermelon and i'm gonna do one on this side because mine has an extra compartment and the other one on this side and that is basically it this honestly looks like uh what is those microwave kids meals kids chef what is it someone please let me know in the comment section a little i can't remember the name of it someone help me out i'm gonna put this on top this is genius this is my favorite lunchbox but i am biased because i am obsessed with bento boxes so [Music] here we've got our school lunch as prepared by an actual american mom it is as legit as i possibly can make it honestly this looks like something straight out of america this came from an american person so i'm just glad that the wrap is actually holding shape after he sat here for a little bit it looks great now so it's pretty good it's a bit dry but i like it in my head i'm comparing this to the french school lunch in which we seasoned every element of the sandwich so this one is a bit drier in comparison but i actually really like it the butter in the noodles kind of dried so now it's a bit chunky okay i don't know if i would like to eat this for school lunch cold noodles edamame beans which i already know everyone's gonna be like i have lived in america for 75 years and i have never eaten an edamame bean we can tell there's not like a solid like protein element to this i don't like watermelon i really don't like watermelon ugh these i do like honestly i actually think this is a solid school lunch meal i think this would make the life of a parent pretty easy the wrap was surprisingly easy so i'm gonna say when it comes to practical america has got this crack down to the teeth there's no actual cooking there's no even seasoning keep in mind this for a child i think it looks really good i'm gonna give it a seven i'm gonna say flavor this is like a five i know that i have a lot of american viewers it is what it is though like i gotta keep these things fair we're doing this for scientifical reasons i don't care about feelings other than my own that's just me in general i'm gonna say it's a six when it comes to variety practicality though i'm gonna give this a nine this is very practical it was easy to make it's such a shame there's no category for freedom [Music] [Music] do [Music] my favorite thing about this one about brazil is the fact that it is practical straight to the point and honestly i think if you are making this for your child or for yourself if you're going to school this one surprisingly easy what i don't like is the fact that we have to make it ourselves so i've got some olive oil i'm just gonna coat the bottom of the pan i should definitely not be making an omelette in this pan but this is all i've got all my other ones are huge i'm gonna put the eggs in i'm gonna let it cook for a little second the ingredients that you use in the video for the omelette are can use too many because otherwise we're making a very small omelet so that it fits we've got cheese we've got ham and then they use i don't know if it's chorizo or if it's pepperoni kind of thing i love how the lunchbox for this one is really simple i don't know if this is a good reflection of what it's like in brazil but i like how practical this is i'm gonna put the cheese first and the two slices of um cold meat this comes out gross my child is gonna be bullied in school pov me messing up a child that i don't even have it does look pretty similar to in the video so now i'm gonna attempt to flip it i mean this is not what i intended with flipping but i guess it does the job it's looking like an omelette that's for sure i don't know if that's raw egg or cheese so i don't know if you can see but it's looking pretty good so this is our omelet which by the way literally looks perfect it is cheese in the center so we are going to fold it and if you think about it an omelette is the perfect food to pack for a school lunch boiled eggs stink fried eggs are just not doable because they will fall apart an omelette perfect all this effort to make it smaller and it doesn't even fit in this one i'm just gonna add carrots for tomatoes and for dessert just a kiwi and that is basically this to me is the most realistic one out of the whole video let me see if i can show you that is basically our brazilian school lunch this lady on tech talk every single day gives their child lime juice so i decided to include that as well because i've watched like um six of these tech talks from this lady and it felt appropriate so and yes i did get this cup specifically for this look at this technology if i was going to like school and had to prepare my lunch no way i would be making a fresh juice on top of preparing food every day but this is just lime and water so i guess just go drink from the water fountain and get the flu like the rest of us so here we've got the school lunch for brazil which was basically made by us oh wait i just realized i'm missing my drink after i spent ten dollars on disney official merchandise brazil keeps it simple even more simple than the us practical this one deserves probably a 10. so interesting to see how an omelette holds it's a bit uh tough kind of like a taco now i'm gonna cut it open just so i can see well i'm not sure if this would be a great idea to pack this to go but no turns out a pretty good idea the egg is definitely tougher than before but i like it it almost makes this easy to hold like a taco i don't even need the capillary also we've got sorry i just can't get over this don't know how this tastes good without any sugar in it but it does parent of the year this lady everything's great so far this is okay did i break a tooth no overall this was good it might seem like a silly idea to pack a normal lid to school it's definitely not as good as when it's fresh but it really does work and i'm weird about texture so you know if i'm telling you that a cold omelet is surprisingly good it's pretty good it's a five i just gotta i gotta keep it real sorry brazil i thought the flavor of the omelet was really good everything else was just really simple so it's a seven it would be a ten based on the omelette alone it's a five this is pretty easy to make an eight i have no idea which one is gonna win i have no idea i generally don't know [Music] for italy this is the lunch box or similar that i could find to the tech talk but i mean this is completely irrelevant it is italy after all it is all about the food what i'm actually interested in is the food so the food for this one it's really simple things but classic italy it looks like restaurant quality we've got some mashed potatoes and honestly i don't even know what meat this is i think it might be lamb or beef i ordered this from a local business it's not really take out you place the orders and they deliver like five days later it's an italian run business and i send them a photo of the lunch meal so this mashed potatoes it's going to be good when it's fluffy and light i just know what have i done the mashed potatoes somewhere else so i'm keeping a lot of leftovers from this it seems like something that people would actually eat in school in italy i didn't want it to be pizza or we're not trying to do a parody of the countries we want this to be legit and be as real as possible and i am trying it even comes with like a leaf so you know this is grandma made kind of vibes so i'm gonna put the beef on here i would love to do more countries for this kind of school lunches if your country is not gonna be featured in this video the reason why i didn't include it was because i have no idea what you're eating for lunch like i couldn't find something that felt legit look at these roasted carrots they look exactly imagine getting this for a school lunch i actually can't imagine then we got two types of vegetables i have no idea i'm just gonna put them in i don't know what they are i'm not gonna pretend like i know this is my attempt at showing you the italian meal this looks pretty good i have been to italy i have italian friends this seems like realistic that you'd get this either in a school lunch or someone would actually pack this from home i don't think they would pack pizza i'm sorry to disappoint [Music] so this is a trip to italy i'm actually excited about this one i think this one is very different from everything else because it's very much like a meal like a solid meal did i open this upside down i was so scared for a second there's a lot of vegetables a little bit of mashed potatoes and not a whole lot of meat but just very similar to the video there was a leaf in here which now is glazed carrots it's not restaurant quality but i really like this as a school lunch i just think it's different it's cold and it still kind of works that is an indication of how good this actually is i have no idea what the meat is i don't know what it is but it's very very good flavor wise it's probably my favorite so far it's nothing too crazy but it does the job in a way i find this one similar to the korean one because there is a lot of variety and actually cooked dishes except this one delivers in terms of flavor i would say to seven flavor i really liked it i'm gonna give this a nine it reminds me of something that my grandma would cook for me when i came home from school that is literally what this reminds me of basically what this is that's the best way to describe this variety we've got roast carrots two types of vegetables mashed potatoes i'm gonna say it's a nine as well if you're gonna prepare this to take it take it to school or university or whatever you're going this would be difficult a whole stew that's gonna take a long time to cook glazed carrots with spices on them maybe this is thought of as like a leftover like you'd cook this for dinner and then you take the rest to school the next day or something then maybe i could see how this could be practical actually that makes a lot of sense maybe a six i don't know i'm gonna sum everything up and i will return with the final which country is the winner of this round of school lunches this is the official ranking of all school lunch foods because i actually really like this one we've got brazil i didn't see it coming i thought brazil was gonna be like third place so i was confused about this in fifth place this one's gonna get me a few hate messages on instagram yes you're probably guessing we've got the usa in fifth place which seems fitting to my experience with it in fourth place i was also surprised with this one it's way lower than i was expecting we've got friends in third place this one i kind of expected we've got south korea so the south korea was carried to the top three with just variety because the flavor wasn't exactly the best but there were so many things in there they just added up so we're gonna skip the second place and we'll go straight to the first place in first place we've got italy italy and japan was actually so tight it was literally a difference of 0.25 so i would say italy and japan are the real winners of this video great school lunches i am impressed and i really hope that you guys enjoy this i know everyone's going to be mad that there's not enough countries in this i'm trying my best i would love to do a part 2 if that's something that you guys want to watch you definitely know what
