hey guys and welcome to the show book haul now when i say should show i say that because though i love i love watching me a good book haul but like i suck at filming them because i suck at summing books up you know unless i've read the book i really suck at summing them up and i've only read one out of all of these 40 plus books so we have thriller books we have horror books we have a lot of stephen king books we have a lot of series books especially series that i haven't started yet so i don't know why i keep buying them but we even have a poetry book you know branching out these books aren't going to talk about themselves so let's get rolling we're going to dive into like the thriller horror books first and then we'll talk about everything else the first book that i picked up is the searcher by tanya french now she is a very well-known thriller author but i don't own or haven't read and is that even did i word that correctly i haven't read nor do i own any of her books so the reason why i picked this one up is because i heard that there's witches involved in the synopsis it doesn't feel witchy but like i heard so in this we have a guy named cal who is a retired police officer a divorcee he's moved to this new town to this fixer-upper house where he just wants to start over you know and then one day this kid comes knocking at his door and is like yo my brother's missing nobody wants to care nobody wants to help so i need your help and cal doesn't want to he's like i'm over that i'm not a police officer no more but there's something that keeps drawing him back to the case and um yeah i'm really excited about this book i'm probably going to pick it up pretty quickly oh it says new york times best selling author of the witch elm so wonder if i got it confused and this isn't witchy this next author i have read some of her work and let me tell you it is dark it is twisted it is up it is a good time but i have also heard that her last two books aren't as good as her other like self-published indie publish type books so that's depressing but we're gonna give it a go anyway and that is the wrong family by tyron fisher now hmm she is best friends with colleen hoover who you'll see later on in this video anyway they even have like a collab anyway so this book is about a retired therapist who was diagnosed with something doesn't state what and she winds up moving in with this family who she thinks is like the perfect family and um one day she overhears a conversation where some deep dark is revealed done i like some deep dark so sign me up i mean technically i'm already signed up because i bought the book all right and then we have the bright lands by john fram now i have a boyfriend which is unfortunate and i say this because we have two kids together you know i shouldn't be girlfriend i should be something more you know i digress but he reads so i like that about him anyway this was one book that he picked out and i'm gonna read it too because i've also seen a few other people talk about this and it's about it's set in this really small texas town which i can relate to because i'm from a really small texas town where football is what we eat breathe and sleep you know what i'm saying like all our teachers in high school were coaches anyway in this small town we have joel who technically moved away after high school because he came out as gay and people just aren't accepting him so he leaves he's like bye i'm gone well one day his brother disappears and so he's like well i gotta go back and he goes back to this town and then we have a dead beauty who her brother also went missing i believe and so they're allying up together to try to figure out what's going on all right up next we have something a little bit more sexier you know we have the girl in 6e by a.r tour now back in the back back back back back day when 50 shades of grey was a thing okay i have not read that trilogy maybe i should maybe that would be an interesting vlog but i digress back in the day when that was a thing there was this website that you can go to and they would have like free books that you could read and i started reading this book and i mentioned 50 shades of gray because that's how i found out about this website anyway so i go on there i start reading this book and i'm like yeah this is so good and then the next day the website was taken down so i never finished the book and then i wound up not ever picking the book up i don't know why i don't know why because it was really interesting there's no synopsis on this book and i'm too lazy to google it but from what i remember it's about a girl who stays locked in her apartment never leaves people deliver she gets it she don't leave she even works from home she's a cam girl and the reason why she doesn't leave is because she's addicted to murder yeah she's addicted to murder and she knows that if she leaves her apartment she gonna kill a hoe so she don't leave and that's all that i remember so when i was at a used bookstore i saw it and i was like oh i forgot about that book let me buy it so i did just throwing these books everywhere my bookshelves are a disaster already it's okay we gonna fix it this next book i also picked up at that used bookstore because noelle gallagher talks about this book a lot she this is the book i believe that got her into thrillers or like deep also what i didn't know is that this is like number eight in a series yeah but i asked on instagram and a few people were like no you can read this book by itself you don't have to read the full series so that's what i'm gonna do now i am the world's biggest criminal minds fan okay and this book reminds me of criminal minds so we have this town where people are going missing they're being murdered and when these cops go to this place to like check things out there's always a snowman around and the snowman is typically wearing one of that missing dead person's article of clothing some sort of way or another one of the detectives that gets drawn into this game that this man is playing and i don't know it just seems like a good criminal minds episode am i right so i recently filmed a vlog of me reading my very first horror book which when i think about it though it's technically a horror book it's really a thriller book well i don't know there's some graphic in there but it's not like it didn't scare me so i was like let me up the ante let's dive in a little bit more and so i picked up two horror books that i have been seeing going around on booktube like crazy so the first one is the troop by nick cutter now what i know about this one it's kind of like boy scouts meets some crazy you know like they're on they're on an adventure these blue scouts boy scouts and this guy comes up and he's like so ravishing hungry he wants to eat the dirt and everything and then apparently there's a lot of body horror in this book and that's why i picked this one up because i am a fan of karen slaughter as you'll see in a minute and she does a lot of torture porn and i think body horror is like close to that that's the kind of thrillers that i really enjoy anyway whatever so that's why i got this book and then the other one that i picked up i don't know anything about and it is the only good indians by stephen graham jones i just see this everywhere you know everybody's talking about it everybody's reading it so guess what i picked it up i bought it you know i'm guilty all right this next book this next book i don't know you think about like like that seems to be a theme okay that's probably gonna be a theme coming up i'm warning you okay a morning that's why i said this was gonna be a show i warned you at the beginning but this cover i like i had to buy it do you see this do you see this cover i believe this is middle grade but look at this damn cover i had to buy it do you see this cover i believe this is middle grade horror so i was like middle grade horror if i want to dive into the horror if i want to dive into the horror world i should be able to handle a middle grade book i say that and you never really know the synopsis of this book is really too vague to know what technically is going on we just know that a boy went missing for a year comes back and something is not right i don't know but this cover man how do i justify these next seven books i don't really know but i bought them all on ebay so all at really good prices they're used except one is brand new the very last one but it's really hard to find older hardback books in a good form because they're out of print most of the time or they're really expensive so anyway if you watched my best books of 2020 you'll know that blindsided by karen slaughter was in there right so blindsided is the first book in the grant county series and then the grant county series which i own the entire series already turns into the little trip series like it's companion series they're you know whatever anyway so i have the first two in the will trent series and so i was like let me buy the rest of them and so i did basically what the series is is a cop or detective named will trent and a bunch of different cases and she's very infamous for her torture porn which i really like torture porn is not like porn porn just clarifying that it's like some really deep dark up thriller basically is what it is so that's that and while i was on ebay i went ahead and picked up cop town which is her first standalone novel and it's about serial killers who are after cops and so i bought it because i have all of her other books you know all of her other standalones here and then her series and i was missing this one book and it was there and it was like buy me bath you're gonna want me and i was like okay i'm gonna buy you four dollars can't pass it up so the next two books that i bought i bought because of another booktuber named jordan i recently found her binge watched her i love her reading taste and i was like you know what i picked up two books that she talks about often so here they are the first book is confessions and this book follows a teacher who she called off her engagement she's quitting her job because her four-year-old daughter was killed and she's a teacher and it's her last day at work and she's talking to her kids telling a story about how she knows that two of her students killed her daughter and now she's out for revenge sounds like a up good time and the other book that i picked up because of jordan is the word is murder by anthony horowitz now this book is about well there's a lady okay and she goes into this funeral parlor and she's like yo i need to play my funeral lo and behold hours later she's dead and so they have this really witty detective who's on the case and he's also looking for someone to like document his life and so he hires anthony horowitz to do that jordan talks about how it's really different and cool because he writes himself into the story and that's what intrigued me the most so another place i have been looking for book recommendations is on facebook and these groups that i'm in that are like thriller psychological suspense book reading group things whatever i don't know and this book happens to be super popular this trilogy in those groups but i don't ever see anything about this book on booktube and so i was like it's gotta be good if it's so popular in this group so i bought it and i know it's about like serial killers and um that's that's all that i know that's all that i'm here for you guys is not knowing anything up next i gotta speed this up because like i have a babysitter downstairs watching my kids aka their daddy who has to go back to work because he's on his lunch break so i gotta speed this up real real real quick so this next book is goodnight beautiful by amy malloy i heard good things until i got it and now i don't hear as many good things but it's about this husband and wife the husband is a therapist the wife is to stay at home she listens through the air event at her husband's customers no patience and loves to hear some up and then what air has been goes missing so all right another thriller is the last flight by julie clark this book follows two women right they both are like kind of miserable with their lives they meet each other at the airport and they're like hey let's switch plane tickets trade vacations and so they do and one of them's playing crashes goes down and she dies and so the other one who's pretending to be someone she's not you know she's like you know what maybe i can just keep living her life and nobody will know they will still think that i'm dead dun dun dun such a good book reviewer it is like if you think about it it is quite difficult to really talk about a book when you haven't read it am i right am i the only one jane harper the survivors now this is a thriller about this guy who brings his family back to his hometown for a vacation and a body comes up at the beach and goes down and i don't really want to know anymore you know because like do you really even need to know anymore no because you might figure out the twist and thrillers and so that's why it's really good to even go into books not knowing much about them so really i'm doing you a service i'm doing you a favor okay about not knowing about any of these books okay so my battery's dying i'm gonna charge it and i'm gonna come back and we're gonna finish this book haul so don't go anywhere i'm back hopefully with enough battery power to get through the rest of these books because we still got a lot to go so with that being said let's dive in to the next book and that is the push by ashley audrain this book sounds like a up time so we have a woman who is married and dreams of being like the perfect mother okay has a baby and is like i think my baby's a psycho and nobody believes her she's starting to think well is it in my head then they have another kid and she has a better connection with this other kid and i think something happens and she's like okay yeah my first kid is the psycho sounds like a good time you know when you're a mom oh and that also was my book of the month pick for the month of january along with these two other books the first one being outlawed by anna north i don't know nothing about this book i do know that it is a feminist historical fiction dystopian novel but this cover definitely was probably the main reason why i bought the box i didn't buy the book i got it for free because i'm a bff and my birthday credit along with the vanishing half by britt bennett now this book won the goodreads award as well not good reads book of the month i think it did also win a goodreads award probably some other stuff dude because it's supposed to be a really really good read it follows these two twin sisters from their childhood to their adulthood they're both from this small southern predominantly black town and i believe one of them gets out of the town and goes lives in california and she lives in a predominant predominantly white town can pass as white it's supposed to be deep heart-hitting beautifully written and i'm really excited to dive into this book i've heard nothing but love for this book i am not a lover of poetry unless you're shel silverstein i don't i don't care but what i am is a lover of halsey like hardcore okay and she wrote a poetry book y'all look how cute first off she could write a phone book and i'd buy it too okay so now we have a beautifully foolish endeavor by hank green this is the second book to an absolutely remarkable thing have i read this no why'd i buy this i don't know i believe that book is about a girl who becomes famous overnight via social media and kind of like how she has to cope and deal with that and throw in some sci-fi in there with it there you go i have loved the green brothers since vlogbrothers long time ago i love hank green even though i don't really care for this book i keep it i keep it because it is autographed to me from both of the brothers you know like i've contemplated ripping this page out and unhauling the book but then i'm just like i can't do that you know that's my love for hank green and john dre you know i just they're good people up next we have tyron fisher's best friend colleen hoover in her latest novel layla now colin hoover is well known for her romance and this is supposed to be her endeavor into paranormal romance and boy oh boy i've heard some mixed on this book i heard you have to like really suspend your belief because there's some really odd things going on about this book there's a couple the girl gets in an accident or attacked or something and to kind of help her coat and get over the trauma her boyfriend brings her to this bed and breakfast and just goes berserk another book that is part of a series that i haven't read and that i don't really know much about um is morning star by pierce brown i do own the first two in the original trilogy and then i think iron gold is a spin-off i'm not really sure haven't read any of them why'd i buy another one your guess is as good as mine they're like adult sci-fi mixed with the dystopia i don't really even know i bought red rising when the whole pierce brown as a hot author thing was going around you know i mean he is not that bad looking you know what i mean and so i was like might as well and then i bought another one and another one and another one and another one and i haven't read them yet let's just go ahead and put you back where you go buddy another book that i bought that i don't know anything about but it is sci-fi it kind of falls into this same kind of genre is to sleep in a sea of stars by christopher paolini now technically paul picked this out paul has already read it by the way he read this already he gave it four and a half stars he said it was the first book to ever almost make him cry he really enjoyed it so i'm hoping that since he really enjoyed this book he'll also read these let me know how they are so it also won't be like a waste of money you know there's like a war that erupts in outer space and this girl is like earth's only hope to surviving i don't really know paul said it was really action-packed and there was so many things boom one right after the other right after the other so maybe it's a good time i don't know he says it is so we'll just slide you on in right there up next we have full me once by harlan cobin harlan copen is a pretty well-known thriller author paul has read quite a few of his books and so we picked up a few more for our collection so this one follows a special ops pilot named maya who's come back from war or wherever she's been and she's reviewing her nanny cam you know because she has a little girl and while she's looking at the footage she notices her daughter talking to her husband only catch is their husband is supposedly dead so what the is going on another by harlan copen is the stranger i don't know much about this one i do know that i ordered it off ebay because it is a netflix show and i did watch the first episode and i was quite confused and that's why we got the book here and i don't i don't really know apparently there's a lot of strangers and the final harlan cobin book is caught i haven't heard much on this one at all i think this is one of his older books based off the cover alone and this one is like about a town where our golden girl student goes missing there's a predator on the loose and goes awry so another crime thriller author that paul loves is matthew quirk we do own a few of his books already and so we went ahead and bought this series that he has the 500 being the first in the detective being the second these are more crime thrillers and he also writes very like action movie type books paul really loves these so ebay had our backs you know like i'm telling y'all if you want a good deal ebay is where it's at last book before we dive into all the stephen king books that i picked up another ebay find and that is thunderstruck by eric larson i listened to dead wake a few years back when i was attending college my history professor was reading it and recommended it to me and so i listened to it and i really really enjoyed it he writes non-fiction but like in a fiction way like it reads like fiction and so it's so good and you just pick up a book by him i don't even know what this one is about i just bought it because it was on sale you know one of the greatest criminal chases of all time apparently okay now let's dive into all the stephen king books that i picked up i'm not gonna you i'm gonna go over these books like went over all the rest i barely know about them it's okay though because that's how i like to go into my books is barely knowing about them so that's what we're gonna do now one of these i have already read and i have an entire reading vlog on it and i'll link it down below and that is misery by stephen king and this is by far one of the best books that i have ever read this follows an author named paul sheldon who basically gets rescued and then held captive by his number one fan and she tortures the out of him so he'll rewrite a book for her or actually like write another book for her and um wow this was one hell of a time so while we were watching misery after i read it i was looking up like fun facts of stephen king and he's a really really really big boston red sox fan and so is paul and he wrote this book with his love of boston red sox thrown into it the girl who loved tom gordon i don't know much about it i know she's a young girl still in school young girl and i think she gets lost in the woods or something wearing a boston red sox cap in the cover the shining by stephen king never seen the shining i know it's about a hotel where the guy the wife and the kid all go to this hotel to keep after it during the winter time the dad goes crazy the kid can see ghost or see something he has the shining the gift of the shining the shine whatever i'm pretty sure you know what this is about so what was cool though is while i was reading misery they mentioned the overlook hotel in this book so that was kind of neat and i'm glad i knew what it was even though i've never read or watched the shining in my vlog reading misery someone else mentioned that i will like dolores claiborne that it's pretty similar to misery so i picked this one up apparently dolores is a housekeeper of a really rich woman who suddenly dies in her home and she is the top suspect and she's thinking if i'm going down for this then i'm taking everybody down with me and she starts confessing a whole bunch of stuff yeah it's one of his thinner novels because we do have some chunkers here like the outsider by stephen king this was also recommended to me by one of you guys and then i was also told not to read this one until i read mr mercedes trilogy apparently a boy gets brutally murdered and they have two people that are really really really highly suspected to the point where they're pretty sure that both of them did it but only one of them could have done it i don't really know but you recommended it to me so and this year we're going to be reading a bunch of stephen king a few other recommendations were carrie because this was his first published novel about a high school girl who gets bullied and i think she has like some type of what do you call it power where she can do things with her mind it's also super thin it's also a movie i'm pretty sure you already know this i've never seen the movie like i said so there's that and then along with that we have a pet cemetery this is about this family they move to this home and i believe in their backyard is like the pet cemetery where kids around town go to bury their pets and then out past their backyard is another cemetery where you can bury things and they'll come back to life i'm assuming they bury a cat that comes back to life i don't really know but it's one of his really popular works so and then lastly we have the stand by stephen king i picked this one up because i watched a few stephen king videos on where to start with stephen king and a lot of people a lot of the videos mainly they were saying start with carrie they were saying start with cult classics they were saying start with his series the dark tower series and then a couple people said start with this bad boy here when it came in the mail and i saw how big it was i don't know if i'm gonna continue on with this book i might save it for a rainy day um do i know what this one's about no apocalyptic world crazy i don't really know i mean stephen king is supposed to scare you in just the size alone scares me and there you have my show of a book haul next time we're gonna make sure to only haul a few at a time so i can talk more about each book instead of having to speed through it but we did it we did it we did it hooray
