hey guys in today's video we're going to talk about a TV lift system in this case it's a whisper lift by touched on home products but long story short a TV lift for those of you that haven't seen or heard of these it's a great way to have your TV either hidden or stood out of the way and in my case so this is our RV and so space is very limited so we use our TV lift to stow this behind are actually inside of our desk and then when we're stopped and we want to watch TV we can then use this lift system to bring the TV up into view in this video I'm going to go into the troubleshooting hopefully the repair and then eventually the installation of this TV lift system in our case we've had this is the whisper lift to pro we've had it for just over two years now and long story short about a month ago I started acting up it's been working great up until then if that just worked wonderful very quiet and click but about a month ago I started giving us some problems so today we're gonna we're gonna dig into that there's a couple things that the tech support from the company is asking to do so I'll do those tests and we'll test it out see it's going on and hopefully depends how long it takes I'll be able to also bring you along for the repair and the reinstallation of this TV left back into the RV I'm Jesse and you're watching outside is calling intro video [Applause] okay guys so as I mentioned this particular model is the whisper lift to pro and I'll explain why I have it there's actually about a half dozen different models that the company touched on makes but we had to have this one and I'll explain why so first off here it is on the ground you can see this is the the motor that drives this mechanism up and down and these bars here this is where where the TV mounts to right now it's just on the ground so I can troubleshoot but essentially this is going to go back into desk over here so here is a very primitive but functional desk which you don't see when the tops on and this actually mounts back in here I've got some power to it so anyways for the system I have this button here where I can you know sit up or down and I could bring the TV up or down when we want it okay so why do we need the pro model the thing is in our RV we have these cabinets just above where the TV mounts at and so the base models most of these TV lifts when you hit a button they just go all the way up or all the way down and in our case this one's so tall it would go up it would hit here and it would drive a hole into this cabinet so we had to have this model you know that this this pro model but we don't need the full range of travel and that's where that that set point comes and we can set it to just go to a certain height and stop okay so here's the TV lift out of the TV area I've got on the ground here out in the open where you need to move up and down good for troubleshooting and as you can see there's several components over here we have just a regular power supply goes into regular household power outlet this this now converts the power to the I'm not sure what DC power it is but to the DC power for the motor or for the control box which then takes the power to the motor this is our motor and that and the motor engages with this shaft there's two shafts here that you know scope in and scope out a ways back I picked up one of these guys is called a kilowatt put the discus in the description and this is pretty handy to know how much power you're using this is great when you're managing your power loads and RV because power is limited not too limited because we now have our battleborn lithium batteries we still try to be very conservative about our power usage and so I'll use this guy both before and after taking this out to see just how much power this motor is consuming and I'm hoping that might tell me if this motor is overloading or if this box which is controlling the motor is kicking it out for some other reason let me plug this in and I'll show you is that what's going on first we need to go over here and turn on our inverter we're currently off grid and our inverter will be charging or we'll be using our battery or DC battery system to create 120 volts AC so here's our inverter inverter is on alright so this video complements of green energy and solar power in the Sun right now we have 1200 watts of solar panels on the roof which are now going through our charge controller to charge the batteries and the batteries are now taking that power turning it into 120 volt AC power to power our appliances in this case they'll be powering TV left ok so again here's our controller just a wired controller some of these models this one as well comes with the remote control we always lose them so I use this guy so this is how I will through this black box tell the TV left to go up or down pretty simple so let's go ahead and take it up and see how it sounds and what's happening something in here is making a click noise and sounds like it's kicking the unit out and now a good okay so that noise is that little I don't know something like a clutch to me noise is actually coming out of this electronic black box controller so I think the problems of that however I've been talking with tech support a touchstone and what they want me to do today is to remove these two pins on the shaft here's a pin here and there's a pin there you want me to remove those pins and then run this motor up and down and see what happens I'm gonna what's up to that I'm gonna plug this in first and see just how many amps or watts we're using with this hooked up and then with it disconnected to see if there's a difference and maybe something's binding [Music] okay so I've hooked up the kilowatt to an outlet right here 120 volts roughly that means our inverter is inverting the DC power from the battleborn lithium batteries into our 120 volts AC so now I'm going to plug in the whisperer lift to pro and to that guy there let's look amps okay so what I'll do is if I hit the button for this to go up and down we'll see just how many amps the system's pulling now and then after I disconnected okay so we got upset 1.9 amps which isn't really that bad now I'm going to do what the TUC asked me to do was to disconnect this shaft from the system pop this unit out and then run it up and down and see what happens [Music] okay so I'm going through the email from tech support Brian from tech support says remove the shaft and run the actuator only to see if the actuator shaft moves okay it's very good now I have this shaft this actuator I'm not sure what the proper name of this guy is but now we have this and the motor I'm gonna do is now I'm going to go back to that that kilowatt device I showed you and we'll see if the amperage is any different with this out of the system you know if the amperage is a lot lowered that would indicate that this thing here is binding and not travelling freely [Music] so we're still getting 1.8 1.9 amps I'm not sure if you heard that but this thing's still kicking out so that would indicate that the lift system the big heavy part here is operating fine it's something either in the shaft the motor or this control box so now I'm going to take a video and send this to the tech support guys come back to y'all in a little bit with the latest and greatest [Music] alright guys the RV is a mess because we're actually moving back into the RV as I'm wrapping up these last few projects so please excuse my mess but we're back to wrap up the TV lift this is a whisper lift to pro something something something up with the link in the description but but anyways this is the the TV lift that takes this big ass TV up and lowers it down behind our desk so bringing us up to speed it's been a few days since I shot the last video we also had a hurricane which delayed mail and whatnot hurricane durian has hit Florida or went past the coast I wanted to throw there for those of you that are on a budget I did find some TV lifts on walmart.com I think probably 200 e bucks so less than 300 bucks they seen it's about 600 bucks I believe when a good maybe get 500 bucks on sale I think as much as $700 it's like the regular price I know when I was researching this TV lift a lot of the reviews of whatnot would say that the the cheaper lifts were either noisy or there would be slow where they had complications okay I'm back I had to turn off the air conditioner because it's pretty noisy I want you guys build here me essentially so while the whisper lift is not a cheap TV lift at all what was nice to find out was that it has a five year warranty and so I received this big box with the actuator free of charge from the folks at touchstone and that's kind of cool I mean it wasn't cheap but I guess you had no peace of mind that they're gonna stand behind it for five years which is pretty cool right actually I think just a pour over the two-year mark and when I contacted them I figured like there's no way there's anything under warranty I'll be paying for whatever I need but it was a nice surprise about we actually have three more years of warranty coverage so let me show you what they sent here in the mail and what we're going to install today alright here we are with the package from touch Maryland's products and here is the new TV lift actuator I thought the actuator was assist this this component here by guess so this is whole assembly tech support believe that by replacing this into our unit that this will actually rectify the issue and get us back liftin back back and back in motion so that's a this ready to install and see how it goes down alright this this clip sent it out pretty easy you have a couple of little keys here and pins that go in there so pretty simple and that's what holds this together [Music] pinned off now the new actuator is now inside of the lift assembly I believe I already showed it's been a few days but we've already showed that this this assembly is moving freely so there's nothing binding on here so the technician troubleshot down to the actuator and we're gonna hook this up and see what happens here we go get up that sounds way better Oh sounds way better than last one that's how high up this thing goes this is uh why we have to have a programmable unit so we have these cabinets up here and this unit would actually go through and put a hole in those cabinets if it were left just go all the way all the way open so we had to get this model because it's programmable that's a heavy mofo that thing is very stout I have no uh no doubts this thing can handle our TV but uh we gotta get this unit though because it's programmable so we can actually have to stop just before it touches the cabinets in our case our TV we had like the maximum size possible that that's you know in the in this little desk area we have to scope this thing all the way up to the cabinet for the TV to be above the desk line so it's important for us to get the full travel we can out of the same and program so let's run up now a couple times make sure everything's good and then we'll program the unit over there in the new spot it's the old spot Wow sounds so much better oh this is exciting and what's so cool is like I thought for sure I was gonna have to buy a new unit or buy parts or go online or taking stuff apart but you know I'm super excited to you know we're not being paid or we're not affiliates with touchtone own products but I don't know I just I did my shopping when I bought this thing it was expensive but I did a lot of homework and I knew that this was like like the best one on the market at the time it wasn't cheap and I was worried that I'd have these expensive bills but I guess that's a part of the cool thing about buying and buying a nice one it has a nice warranty as I mentioned this thing is just over two years old so we have almost three years of warranty left so if anything else were to fail or go wrong hopefully they'll stand behind the product as they have so far and so that's kind of cool I hate leaving like negative reviews or on videos or all right I like talking bad about companies because it doesn't do anybody any good when companies are doing bad stuff it's important to look at them now but this is one of those cases pretty cool it's a win-win all around we have a great unit they sent us this whole entire I wonder how much just actuated cost I had to go buy one them I'm guessing 100 bucks minimum maybe more plus shipping and you know this was was sent from them to us it's part of the warranty pretty cool one thing to note for those of you that are looking for TB lifts are in the market the reason I chose this one and again I don't know all the differences of the other TV lifts but the reviews are read where the other TV lifts would take like one to two minutes to go up or down they were very slow and a bunch of them are very noisy I've got the air conditioned turned off so it's nice and quiet in here and you can hear that there is some noise on the unit but it's not loud and it travels well let's try and time it here we go we're going down right now and we don't travel the full distance of the mention because we're going to program this thing but this will be the full distance travel time good there we go that was pretty darn quick and you know as I mentioned we're not going to be going the whole way for our application but that's that's pretty fast you know fast and quiet and this thing at Praia weight is 50 pounds thing is solid so my next step is it is to install this thing into back into the spot I have here and because of the heavy nose you know imagine that we're in a Motorhome this is a we have an earthquake daily whenever we drive so this thing has to be mounted solidly into the RV so let's get it back installed and then I'll show you guys how I program this thing so we don't punch holes into our cabinets all right here's the moment of truth so this guy essentially could go all the way up and put a hole in my cabinets up top here and so that says so the instructions are I press and hold both buttons until the light flashes on my box once that process starts the lift will go up automatically at this point it's waiting for me to give a command by typing or pressing the UP button and that's when the lift will stop raising you've programmed it to that point and it will go back down and stop so in my case I want to get it as high as I can so at the last second I'm gonna have to hit this button to program it at the brief highest part to give you know as much of Ewing area the TV as possible my worry though is I could punch a hole in the cabinet so what I'll do if if I hit the button and it doesn't stop and it keeps going I'll it reach over I'll turn off the power got my directions over here I made a trough power to need to [Music] so now in theory I should be able to hit the UP button and it will go up to that spot and stop with the TV all right there we go so it's been programmed and now if it went correctly we hit the button and it's gonna travel up to the programmed position and not put a hole in the cabinet right now when I set this control down right now it's all automatic again I'm gonna be ready to turn the power off if I need to that ever here's my power supply I don't trust this it's all it's done in the few times there we go stopped well cool there we have it there's our TV lift I just gotta put the TV back on there these bars hold the TV and we're back in business so that's pretty cool a nice quiet smooth operation didn't cost me a dime thank you touchstone for for stepping up and sending the parts I needed and I'll put it back together put the best back together and I'm ready to get back on the road and start traveling all right so now for the moment of truth put the desk back together the TVs in the TV lift with the the sound bar the JBL sound bar and let's see if it works there we go going up [Music] yeah look at that we're back in business that nice-looking TV soundbar top TV all right very nice well cool there we go so successful jobs happy the works done with back in business and I'm gonna wrap it up our tools we're actually heading over today we're gonna go over to Tampa Florida and go mountain biking for a couple days that I will buy a River State Park and after done mountain biking we can make some margaritas watch some TV and chill out in their conditions the talking will look quietly because my son is in the back room sleeping right now for those of you new to the channel we don't just make like how to do it videos you also have some great travel videos and our channel is all about traveling
