are you learning how to rob cars do you want to get into rapping cars do you not have any friends i mean neither let's go wrap this up together i'll show you now [Music] what's up guys justin from driver aesthetic here today i'm going to be showing you how to lay a hood by yourself if you don't got any friends let's get it so for today's install you're going to need several different tools slash products the first is going to be a heat gun you're going to need a wrap load ice approval alcohol water mix tack reducer blade [Music] tape measure two rags and a squeegee can't forget the squeegee as far as prep goes you're gonna wanna make sure your hood's clean if it's not clean go ahead and get yourself some soapy water and a clay bar clean it up real quick and then you're good to go so once your hood is clay board and cleaned you're going to go ahead and get some alcohol water mix along with a clean fresh microfiber go ahead and mince the hood [Music] you're going to wipe down everything the purpose of the alcohol is to dry out any excess water left along with excess oils tar grease left from the road or anything the clay bar didn't pick up [Music] so if you don't clean the bottom side of your edge you're going to increase the chances of pull back as well as installation failure why because it's dirty [Music] any dirt oils grime grease that's left over can cause your panel to fail essentially just because you forgot the alcohol one little spot so if you already have your fenders wrapped like i do maybe you want to lay some tape down definitely helps out that way the vinyl doesn't tack to itself and you're able to lift it up easier when you open the hood up to finish off your edges so i personally like to have a little hood prop that way my hood's elevated and it stops my hood latch from closing completely that way whenever i lay the vinyl it's not touching the fenders or sticking down to itself so you want to measure out your height and width so you'll start at the topmost corner come past your edge and that's just over four feet it's just over six when measuring you want to make sure you go a couple inches over that way you have enough to tuck and pull your edges down let's head over to the wrap rack so there's a couple different ways that you can measure and cut out your vinyl you could go ahead and lay it down on the blanket something that's not going to damage it table but since i have you might as well utilize so if you're not going to utilize this piece that you just cut out right now from the hood just go ahead and roll it up to the best of your abilities by yourself try not to crinkle it if you do just pull the ends and then it all goes smooth once you get it all rolled up slap a piece of tape on there don't forget to label it so when laying flat panels such as the hood you want to use a tack reducer that way it helps with the ease of lifting and readjusting the vinyl that being said you want to keep it away from the edges i like to keep it within an inch from all my edges just go ahead and spray it on your rag [Music] so in most situations you're going to be able to use magnets because your car is probably made out of steel these teslas are all made out of aluminum so right now what i'm going to do is just tack the corner and then move on to the other side [Music] so once you have your two top corners tacked you're gonna go ahead and reach under and connect the bowl with the backing [Music] so there's more to vinyl than just pulling off the backing paper if you see this you might think oh no what have i done but don't worry it's an easy fix it comes out real easy so i'm going to go ahead and do first is grab one corner any corners fine nothing specific just grab your corners lift and pull try to glass out as best as you can move to your next corner try to glass it out as best as you can [Music] [Music] [Music] so right now what i'm going to go ahead and do is attack the center to help myself out a little bit if you don't have a wrap glove always use a squeegee [Music] when applying vinyl with your squeegee you want to do similar even motions that way everything is laid all together you don't have to worry about missing any spots sometimes once you do the middle you're going to have to pick the vinyl up and readjust and re-glass it's a little hard with the cap sheet at times but go ahead and get it down so basically what i'm doing first is getting all my bubbles pushed out to the edges that way you don't have to worry about anything in the center if you do miss one like this don't worry gotcha just rub it out with your finger a little bit good to go probably so the air release along with the attack reducer honestly makes for an easiest installation because some of these wrinkles honestly you wouldn't be able to get out with other films with ours [Music] if you're at home having trouble glassing this out with the cap sheet on that's all right don't worry we got you so what you're going to do is go ahead and remove the cap sheet get yourself a fresh squeegee felt along with the lubricant that way you don't scratch this ultra gloss so with the cap sheet off it honestly makes it a little bit easier to readjust and pull your panels to get that ultimate glass that's right so you want to take some quick detailer so now with your lubricated squeegee you're just going to work out all the bubbles to the edge so if you do ever encounter any creases stubborn bubbles that don't want to come out then you bring in your handy-dandy heat gun go ahead and lift the area that you need to heat and it's very important that you pay attention to this next step i'm going to heat it up just a little bit and i'm not going to stretch i'm just going to lay the vinyl down so there's no tension it's just being blade [Music] a little bit of heat and just lay it no stretch if you do ever have any excess material that you want to cut off and make it easier that way your hands not all the way deep just go ahead and trim it off now that i've gotten all the bubbles and creases out to the edge i'm going to go ahead and heat up the material on the surface that way i can promote the best adhesion possible so for the correct post heating temperature make sure you check the manufacturer's website for the brand that you're using right [Music] also this helps if you missed any little bubbles you can go ahead and squash those real easy before i start laying down my edges i also do like to trim it a bit i like to leave maybe a couple inches over that way i have something to work with along with being able to hold and pull over [Music] before i'm using any heat on my edges and pulling over my corners i like to run my finger with a glove on over all the edges make sure everything's nice and straight no wrinkles no major wrinkles or anything right there after you brand your fingers with your glove across all of your edges on your hood what i like to do next is take my heat gun start heating up the edge a little bit and getting it tacked down in the same back and forth motion like you did on the edge with no heat go ahead and put some heat run your fingers back and forth get all the creases out and here at driver aesthetic we like to go past the first body line um some people cut on the edge some people do it in the middle of it some people go way past it but here we like uniform cuts first body line you're good to go when it comes time for your corners you want to make sure both sides are laid down such as this one we're going to go ahead and do this side real quick go ahead and get it nice and warm i'm gonna grab both sides and pull over and don't pull it too exaggerated just wanna pull it just enough to where you can start laying down all the edges around the corner before you trim it over your edges you want to make sure you post heat that way you minimize any risk of pullback [Music] so now that i got all the bubbles and wrinkles past the first body line right here which is where we like to cut i'm good to trim [Music] [Music] so when it comes to trimming the hood honestly in my opinion the hardest part is the back side just because if you want that uniform cut you're just gonna have to work a little harder to get it so just take your time it's not a contest you got this [Music] [Applause] all right once you got done posting and trimming congrats you finished your first hood [Applause] let us know what you want to see next in the comments don't forget to like comment and subscribe [Music] you
