hey guys it's Heather um from Kelvin plan I'm here today to talk to you about one of our favorite planner supplies and that's washi tape I'm here today to talk about all the different ways that you can use washi in your planner so I'm going to grab one of my planners this is the coloring planner from me and my big ideas it's a happy planner so today I'm going to be showing you a few different tricks and tips from that I've learned from different people on how to use washi tape so I'm going to go to this week this is a planner that I kind of use for like extra projects so anytime I have an extra project going on I usually do it in this planner so I don't really plan much in this planner this is like a I guess a fake planner you could say so anyway I'm going to show you a few different tricks and different ways to use your washi tape so I'm going to go ahead and pull these off of the paper or off the disks because you guys know that that's the way I like to play it so this washi that I'm using here is from me my big ideas but there are tons of different ones out there you don't have to use me with a Big Ideas brand you can even pick up washi at like dollar fifty for a dollar so watch your tape if you don't know it's basically a very thin decorative tape that can be used for all kinds of things if you look on Pinterest there's all kinds of ways to use washi and the way I use it the most is obviously in my planner so today I'm going to share a few different ways that you can use washi the first is I'm just going to share with you how I trim it because some people um so when you take your washi and you lay it down like maybe I want to cover use it to cover a header it can be kind of hard to then take your scissors and really get in here and cut a straight line that can kind of hard to do so one of my favorite tricks with washi is to take an old gift card I just covered this one with washi to kind of make it cuter and you just lay it right against and you kind of press down with your finger so that it's down really well and then you just pull on this end up against the gift card and then it makes a perfect edge and it's been perfect so that's the first little trick is just how to cut your washi if you using it part it makes it a lot easier another trick that I've learned is sometimes your washi is too thick maybe you just want to cover up this colored part you don't want to put the whole strip down so another tip would be to grab your paper trimmer as you can see I use mine for watching all the time and I just kill off the extra and since I don't really want to get rid of it I usually just stick it over here and now I got this trick from April um mom run craft on Instagram and she usually does it on wax paper which is probably pretty smart but I am lazy and don't like going downstairs to get my wax paper so I just kind of lay it straight on to the paper trimmer and I just put it so right where that's in the middle so then you just lay this down and you dress cut right along where you want to cut the washi and so now when you pull it up you have a much thinner strip of washi so then end with this then when you lay it down here on this page it only covers up that pink line and it doesn't impose on to the other space in your planner so that's just another little trick so I'm going to take this and I'm just going to stick it over here so that can maybe use it later any - so that's so far two tricks on washi and that's just ways to make it different sizes so now I'm going to show you some different ways that you can use your washi and decorative ways so first off I'm going to pull off just a strip of washi and a lot of times on the weekend I like to have a banner so you can use washi tape to make two different kinds of banners probably more than that but these are the two that I do the most so I'm going to make this an even edge so this is how to make a weakened banner if you want to do like a square like then you could cut it like this and then I usually just use my scissors and an eyeball and I cut out a triangle on one end so that it looks like this and then you could just stick that down and you have a banner like that or maybe I'm going to grab this one to kind of mix it up some maybe you want to make like the triangle type banner so to do that I usually um have my scissors and I hope that you can see what I'm doing and along this edge of the washi I cut it at this kind of angle okay so then I have an angle on my washi and so then I take my scissors and I just kind of line it up and then I cut a triangle you see how this a triangle and then you can add that here for another piece of your banner so then you can make another one of the squares just snip snip snip cut that there I'm going to cut another triangle and since I've already cut it here that I only have to cut one more side to get that triangle so the trial is pretty easy once you get started because it's just one more cut front of them so this is another fun way to use your washi tape in a decorative way to make a banner and now you have a cute little banner on your weekend and you can put those banners in anywhere and you can make them you know different sizes whatever you know works for you so that's just another way to use your washi okay another way that people sometimes use their washi tape is to make a different kind of banner so I'm going to show you it's not really even a banner but they kind of they usually put it up here on the weekend when they do this kind so I'm just going to show you how to do it down here so basically you just take your washi and you kind of figure out how long you want it to be and then you just cut the bottom so that it looks like that and then you line it up where you want it okay so then I'm going to do the same thing with this strip of washi except I'm going to make the length different so for this one I'm going to make it a little bit shorter and but I'm going to cut it the same way and then I'm just going to lay that like that see and then I could grab this because I already have this and then maybe I've cut it again and of course you could you know alter the way you lay them where you could just slam them side-by-side just really whatever look you're going for works and I actually don't really like how that's pretty much the same link so I'm going to cut off the top make it a little bit shorter and then you just stick that down and you would continue doing that down the page this one's going to be really short but of course you can always go back to having longer pieces that like that kind of looks almost like a stair effect um you don't most people actually probably don't do it that way and it would a lot of people when they make these they mix up a lot of different washes like I'm only using two different ones but you can mix up a bunch of different styles and just keep layering them on top of each other so it's another fun way to make a banner type thing um here okay so you could also make an arrow with your washi so I don't know how well you can tell but I've already got a pointed end down here so you could go down here you could cut the same kind of pointed tip and now if you look at this it looks kind of like an arrow so then you could use it to you know notate something important so you could it looks like an arrow and then you could just write something important here and you're using that washi to really draw the eye to the important event that you're writing next to it so that's another way to use your washi is like an arrow alright these are a lot of different ideas I know okay my next little thing I'm going to show you I also got from April mama run crafts if you can't tell she's kind of the point of washi she's the one who taught me how to make this thinner so another thing that you could do with your washi that's so much fun is make a washi cake it's one of my favorite things to do so to make a washi cake you just kind of have to decide how big you want it to be and so you make your biggest piece one strip of washi so this is going to be my first piece of cake and you just kind of lay it where you want the cake to be then you take another piece of coordinating washi and you just want to make it a little bit smaller than that bottom piece so that it looks like another layer of cake so then you just take your washi and you put another smaller layer and you just kind of put as many layers as you need to make it the perfect cake size for you okay and then sometimes it's even fun to grab a sticker so maybe I go to my rainbow sticker book and get like a star sticker huh get one that matches shouldn't and this could be like the cake topper of your cake so you can just put that up oops put it on straight and that's maybe cake topper now it's still not finished because you may not be able to really tell that it's a cake yet so then you could take you what you do is you take a pin and you draw this is supposed to be like a plate around it kind of like that and you could even double it up if you want to and then April usually draws these little fun little legs that kind of go like that so again I cannot claim this cake idea by any means this is April to a tee but it's one of my favorite ways to use washi and so then you know you can write like a cute little happy birthday and that could just be a cute way to notate somebody's birthday so that's another way to use washi in your planner so another way to notate using washi is maybe you have an event that's lasting on over a span of days so maybe I have an event that's like Tuesday Wednesday Thursday well you could use washing to notate that event and so these if you see how put the same washi across three days and then I could grab like my alpha book and maybe use some letters to spell out work like maybe I have to work these three days of the week w/o which if you only have to work three days a week tell me what kind of job that is sound love so then of course you you know you're using some stickers or some letters to kind of remind yourself what that is but it's just a fun way to notate multi-day events um okay so another fun way to use washi tape is maybe you want to use a sticky note but it doesn't really tie in to your theme and you really wanted to tie in so maybe I'm going to use this sticky note right here and I really want it to fit in with everything else that I'm doing so I could just easily cut off another small piece of washi tape and then trim the back of it so that it matches ma'am now I have a matching sticky note that I can easily lay down I'm going to put it here and maybe notate an event like maybe we have open house and I just used washi tape to kind of coordinate that sticky note to the rest of my spread um okay another way to use washi tape is you can use it to line the edge of your page just to add like a fun element so this is pretty easy you just take some washing and you just lay it out where ever you might want it and use this to tear it and then you can do one of two things you could cut it or if you want to on both pages you could just fold it over and it just kind of adds a fun little element over there to the side and it kind of you know just ties in some more washi so you could use it to line your pages all right the last little trick that I'm going to show you I also can't clean this trick so especially would like to incant I actually saw this on the AME blog from my girl is so if you're not following Liz um her Instagram is the notable Liz and she is definitely worth following you need to go check her out so what Liz did was she took her washi tape and I'm gonna open this up she's done this before hand but I did okay so Liz took her washi tape and she laid it on like a piece of paper okay so and she just um lied down as much as she thought she might be so this is just an extra piece of paper and I'm just laying out some washi and just layering it on top in whatever order okay so then I'm just going to cut this out okay so then you can take any size shape that you might have so like I have this hexagon maybe I want a hexagon out of my washi so I could slide my washi tape into my punch or you could do like a heart if you want it to be a heart so I could slide this in like so and maybe I actually want to do it the other way so I'm going to cut this a little bit smaller and now I have this great heart that shape that matches my washi and it's a perfect heart which is so fun so then what you would do is you could just tape the paper down like with a tape runner or you could try to pull off the back which I'm trying to do now but it's not really working this would probably had worked better if I had done it like on wax paper but so basically I've just got my fingernail under there it's not working so you could I would do it on wax paper um if you want to just stick it straight down or you could just grab your tape runner which I'm trying to pull out of my basket run some tape along the edge and kind of stick that down in a fun little spot so now I'll have that perfect little heart that matches my spread so that's pretty much all of the different tips that I have of course I guess the last tip would be that you can oh you know what I just thought of some more so another tip you can make a little banner kind of like this um but just one and use it to notate another important event like on Tuesday you see how I'm just going to stick it like that and then I could put like Bank let me go the bank and so you could use your wash you just to notate like one little event and then the last thing I'm going to show you is just that you can change up what the ends of your washi look like so like for looks like this or even down here you could make the little triangle that we've been talking about so you have that kind of in you could just have you know that can just a little end like that or you could you know you can vary what the end looks like so you can play around with that so which you like best so those are just some fun ways to use your washi tape and I hope that maybe that helps you get excited about using your washi and new and fun ways and if you have any other ideas on how to use washi that maybe I missed I'd love to hear about them so you can leave those in the comments below if you liked what you saw hit the like button if you want to hit more hit the subscribe button I will link both April and Liz in the description below since I got some of these ideas from them and I hope that you enjoy watching this have you planning guys
