today's video we will cover how to use the lash tile leveling system and some valuable tips and tricks at the end of the video we picked up during our first installation of large format tile in our kitchen if you missed that video check out the link below let's start by going over what is included with the system and the additional things you may need to get for your tile project we purchased the starter kit which consists of two parts clips and wedges the starter pack comes with a hundred of each but you can find larger quantities for bigger projects you will need to guesstimate on how many spacers you will need to take advantage of the bulk pricing this will depend on the size and shape of your chosen tile and your tile layout for example if you choose a large square rectangular tile you will need two spacers on each side for a total of eight spacers all the way around but if your design calls for hexagon tiles depending on their size you may need two spacers as well and that will put you at 12 spacers per tile good news is neighboring tiles shared the spacers so you will need only four to six additional spacers for every new tile you install additionally regardless of the wedge system you will need to get tile pliers to secure the wedges in the clips on top of the plier head there's an adjustable knob that controls how far the pliers push the wedge you will have to dial that in for yourself you want to push the wedge as far as it will go with your hand and then use the pliers to level the tile with one or two additional clicks do not over tighten the spacers as they will snap on you so finally let's go over how the system works in practice place the clip under the tile edge at the desired location install the next style making sure it's snug against the clip insert the wedge by hand in opposing directions to prevent the grout lines from expanding next use the tire pliers to bring the tile to final level if for any reason you need to remove a clip grab the top of the clip and push it forward while pushing the wedge in the opposite direction if it's your first time i recommend you practice using the pliers on dry tiles like we are demonstrating here so you can dial in the plier compression and understand how much force is needed to avoid snapping the clips now that you understand how the system works here's a few tips to make your life easier during installation tip one this system is designed for fine adjustment of tiles and to keep them in place while the mortar sets so will not work properly if your subfloor is not level make sure you do the necessary pre-work to level the subfloor before starting your tiling process tip two do not over tighten the wedges in the clip as it will cause the clips to bend and tiles to shift causing uneven grout lines tip number three the clips produce 1 16 inch grout line joints and may be used with traditional spacers up to one and a quarter inch if your design calls for wider grout lines tip number four if you're laying tile over multiple days like we are make sure you insert spacers at the edge of the final row of the tiles for that day if you don't the mortar will set and you will not be able to insert the clips the next day tip number five on day two if you decide to remove some clips installed on day one make sure you leave the clips on the perimeter tiles in case the mortar is not fully cured this will help prevent tiles from shifting as you lay additional rows speaking of removing the clips this is the funnest part of the system after letting your tile set overnight to remove the clips all you have to do is slightly tap them from the side to knock them out here's a bonus tip make sure you collect all the yellow wedges as they are reusable and finally tip number six most important tip completely clean out the access thinset that may squeeze out around the clips and in between the tiles not cleaning out the grout lines causes a lot of trouble when removing the clips after installation you can use a wet toothbrush to do this just keep it in the little container with water next to you as you install the tiles trust me you do not want to end up like this guy on your hands and knees scraping dried up mortar from in between ground lights for each tile thank you guys so much for watching another one of my videos if you enjoyed it please hit the like button if you loved it then just go ahead and subscribe now we have plenty more where these came from see you in the next one [Music] you
