hi everybody it's Joanie young here I wanted to make a quick video to show you how to properly load and use the mop brush so this is the mop brush right here this happens to be from my set of five brushes uh in collaboration with craftamo uh these are available now if you're interested however let's get into this video so I'm going to show you all the proper way to load your brush I've got white and I've got black here so I'm just going to do a black and white demonstration of how to paint bushes um using the M brush so you're going to learn the right way how to load the brush and also how to execute a proper brush stroke in order to get those nice fluffy bushes and foliage on this side I'm going to show you the wrong way so maybe you're going to recognize um in this demonstration what you may be doing wrong and how you can improve your painting skills using a mod brush so let's go ahead and get started the very first thing you must know is you don't want to get this brush wet if you want to use it for um the technique of making foliage and poofy little bushes once you get the brush wet it's going to ruin its shape so same thing goes with loading your brush the right way to load your brush so I'm going to show you just like this I have no water on my brush just a little bit of paint and I'm just easing into it and I'm tapping very lightly I'm not going to go like that that would be the wrong way you want to evenly load just the end of your brush and it may not look like you have a lot on there but trust me this is enough and it's still poofy so let's go ahead and give this a try over here I'm going to show you the right way so here we go and I'm just going to hold my brush a little bit on an angle so not straight like this and not not up and down like this but a little bit on an angle so using the tip of my brush and pushing and tapping lightly here that light little tap that's what you want to here and you just want to have these little see-through areas okay so it's not globby looking it's not solid looking you don't have a Big Blob there and now I'm going to show you what you might be doing wrong I'm going to show you how you probably loading your mop brush the wrong way so this is this would be the wrong way pulling like this is going to instantly ruin the shape of your brush and that's way too much paint so it's just the same as if you were to put your brush in the water that would that's what is going to happen it's going to ruin the shape of your brush so a lot of people will go around like like this when they're just starting and wondering maybe there's something wrong with their brush they think it's the brush that they're using but really it's not it's it's um although these are really good brushes and I highly recommend them I've had wonderful feedback on on my mop brushes um it's usually too much paint and how you're loading it so this is the wrong way and this is what's going to happen it's going to look like this all globby right so this looks softer just that soft poofy shape that you really want but this is just you can there's just way too much paint on here and this would be the wrong way of applying it as well you don't want to over toap and overload so too much tapping pushing too hard and overloading your brushes are a big X now that we've kind of ruined the shape of this brush by demonstrating how not to load it and how not to use it I've got another one here on hand this is a dry clean mop brush and I'm going to show you how to correctly load it and add some highlights on and if the the black is still wet that's nice too because you get a little bit of gray tones but the white as well so now I'm going to show you how to load the brush again a light little tap tap tap tap turn the brush turning lifting the brush up each time tap to load okay again not like that not pulling okay now that my brush is pretty evenly loaded I'm going to start partially this is the proper way of adding a highlight partially on the black and partially on the back ground okay so we're going to make it just a little bit bigger we're going to just tap a little bit like that and then we've got sort of a midtone in here and then darkest Shadow and base I'm going to show you here the wrong way and maybe you're going to recognize one of the things that you're doing wrong and hopefully this is going to be really helpful for you I know I know it's going to be helpful for you cuz I show my classes this all the time and it's just a little a little difference like this can go a long way with improving your painting skills so now that I've done the Highlight on there see using the brush like this as well you get this texture in here it looks like little branches or little leaves it looks like foliage but to to show you how you may be doing it wrong you may be loading your brush like this I often see this people go right in and they they don't know what to do they just think they need more paint in order to paint better um but you can see there goes the shape and people are going like this wondering why their highlights aren't working see now let me know if this is what you guys are doing wrong and let me know if showing you this has been helpful because I'd love to make more quick tutorials like this just simple little things can be the the Small Things end up being big things so small changes make for a big outcome so I hope you guys learned a lot in this video I want to wish you guys all the best in your art Journey thanks for sticking around here for the past 6 years or if you just stumbled upon my video and my channel now welcome and thank you guys so much for being here I can't wait to show you all the things that I've learned and taught my students over the past 20 years so I'll see you guys soon in the next video bye
