How To Use A Mixer In Your Dj Setup - Mackie ProFx6 V3

foreign [Music] what's up YouTube it's your boy DJ Scott Ray thank you for tuning back into the channel so today I wanted to do a video on an external mixer I just purchased uh over the holiday weekend I decided to purchase a new mackieprofx 6 version 3. it's a six Channel external mixer it's going to go perfect with my DJ controller and my setup now the reason I decided to get an external mixer is because I've been doing a lot of research and I discovered that an external mixer gives you more Headroom and it makes your speakers and your system sound a lot better than if you just had your speakers plugged into your controller and that's what a lot of DJs do that's what I used to do for years I just plug in my speakers to my controller and call it a day but I noticed that a lot of DJs use external mixers and so I decided to try it out for myself and I pulled the plug and I bought this external mixer and so far I love it so I'm going to show you my setup and talk to you uh about why I decided to choose this external mixer there's a lot of external mixers out there and it was between this one and the Yamaha uh six channel mixer but the reason I chose the Mackie is because it has a a USB input where you can hook this up to your computer and the Yamaha did not have that feature so let me take you back over here so this was the other mixer I was planning to get this is a Yamaha mg06x this one is really good A lot of people like that I see a lot of people on YouTube with that mixer and but the reason I did not get that mixer is because it does not have a USB uh connection okay so here is my setup I have the Pioneer DDJ 1000 SRT and I'm running Serato so let me change it up real quick show you so I got it hooked up already all right got my little monitor up there it's a little Alto monitor and um here is my mixer so I'm going to put you right up here let me see if I can zoom in a little bit okay so this is a new Mackie mixer all right let me show you what it looks like so I already have it all plugged in really cool it's really really nice all right so uh like I said it's got six channels and the way I have it hooked up so this is channel one channel two channel three and channel four uh we got like I said uh five and six are for the USB inputs and outputs uh we got the the outputs up here so what I have here is I have my microphone plugged in to channel one if I had another microphone I can plug that in there I have my controller uh plugged into channel three and four and that's right here okay so what I'm using is a I got the USB uh to a quarter inch and I have it running out of the back of my external mixer left and right they're going in here to the quarter inch and this is the channel three and four right here so let me play a track real quick if I go over here let's see if I can get it I'm gonna I got everything on mute hang on okay there we go that's another cool feature it has a mute button right there boom turns everything off now I'm playing some jams you can see the LED light right there I wanted to bring up the volume [Music] really cool boom [Music] it turns off the volume that's a really nice feature to have it's a mute button all right so really cool I love that I love that so I got the microphone on now and like I said this is a microphone this is Channel One I can increase the volume lower the volume it's got low and highs for The Equalizer no no middle but it has low and high so I'm not really all crazy about The Equalizer but it's really nice nice got the gain up here if I wanted to hook up a Guitar I can hook up a Guitar up here so right now I have it on an effect it has like man all these effects up here let's see there's 20 24 effects this effect right here is called a small plate this is effect eight there's all kinds of an effects on here I can change it up here if I go here boom that's another effect it can change it different volumes and different effects like an echo right there I'm gonna change it back let's go up here to the first effect just push it down check what check two check one all right I really like number eight so let's change it back to number eight number eight is really nice I love it that's what the microphone sounds like what's up y'all it's your boy DJ Scott's right in the mix yeah one day when I become famous all right let me turn off the microphone boom yeah so it's a really cool really cool I love this little thing so go out and get yourself an external mixer so the reason that you're probably asking why did I buy this okay so it makes your speakers sound a lot better these controllers that you buy they're not set up to where you use your speakers to you know to take full advantage of your speakers some of us have really nice speakers well these controllers don't have these nice amplifiers in them this right here lets you maximize uh your your speakers to get more Headroom and to really push your speakers to be a little bit louder and get that nice sounding audio out of your speakers and out of your microphones so also uh another good thing to have is this is like a backup so for some reason I have a meltdown and Serato shuts down or something I know it has happened to all of us where we're getting into it and boom all of a sudden the computer goes out or you know something happens I know my my partner shout out to DJ Rubin we're at a gig one time and all of a sudden he was typing in the song and I think he pressed r and his whole track started going backwards for five minutes we couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong with it until uh you know I had to go look up on the internet to find out you know I think it's like I don't know half or something to make it go back forward so we figured it out but this is what you need right here you can hook this up to your phone iPod iPad and then you got audio on this other channel so this is channel of channel five I can hook this up and then play uh music as a backup if my computer ever goes down if something ever happens I'm still in the I'm in the game I'm in the mix still I got an audio Source right here for backup and then I'll I also do that um you can do that on here you know I would use a user Channel you can you can um plug into like an auxiliary port and do that and so um but you can't reset this because it's tied to the mixer and if you turn off the mixer your audio is done but this you're plugged in and it's still going so you can use this anyway well thanks for tuning back in I hope hopefully that uh convinces you to go out there and buy an external mixer I really love this it's beautiful mixer really cool it's solid it's metal and I can't go wrong with Mackie or Yamaha like I said there's a lot of mixers out there uh this is a six channel mixer they have 12 channels 10 channels I don't really need all those channels I just need this right here it's perfect for my needs and um like I said how I'm running this so I'm coming out of the controller into the mixer and then this goes out to my speaker so it's only hooked up to one speaker right now so it'd be left and then your other speaker would be right if you had a subwoofer you would go from here into your subwoofer and then out to your speakers and you can control all that on on the board here so that's how I would do it but right now I'm just gonna play around with this so I'm making a little mix today planning to do like another video mix um so stay tuned for that come back a little later might have it up on YouTube hopefully they don't kick me out
