[Music] welcome to our channel in this video we'll try to explain the safety features of late and to show you how you need to prepare the lathe for the turning operation this is everything you should know before you start turning hi guys my name is gabriel and today together with my colleague kevin here we'll do a introduction of late this is our lathe this is a center lathe okay a center lathe is used for turning and i'm gonna show you basically how to switch it on and check the safety features okay so on the side here we have our main isolator now our main isolator switch kills the power completely from the mains okay in this position here it's safe and in this position the machine is active it's live okay so from here it means that accidents can happen so what we need to do is we need to look at the safety features that we have that will help you prevent that okay so first and foremost we have our interlocking guard here okay this will cover our spindle and our chuck and prevent you from getting hurt by by the chuck itself okay by preventing you from being entangled in the chuck so that means getting anything that you're wearing that's loose drawn into the chuck and you get okay how this functions is with the lathe guard up with the interlocking guard up we can activate the machine using the on off handle here and we can see nothing is happening okay now we have forgotten to do something here haven't we what have we forgotten to do we've forgotten to release our e-stop to make the machine active okay now as you can see nothing happens it means the machine is still safe okay if this was to fail and the spindle was to start the machine would have to be isolated and taken out of service with the machine down with the chuck guard down i should say the machine i can hear now is actually live and has started and see now the spindle is rotating okay that means the interlocking guard is fully functional okay one thing you must never do ever stop the machine by lifting the interlocking guard up because the spindle is still rotating and you run the risk of being pulled in and caught okay you must always reset the lever here the on off lever each time you activate one of the safety features okay so our next safety feature is our e-stop okay for that to function we need to make sure that the guard is down to release the e-stop you just twist it and it will pop out okay and then you can start the machine machine is now working press the e-stop and the spindle should stop you will notice it doesn't stop straight away that's because there are still rotational forces okay it is not the fastest way to stop the machine to reset just twist that and away we go ready to go again [Music] okay now the final thing we need to check is down here which is our treadle brake or foot brake okay quite simply stamp on the machine and the laser will stop so see that in operation you need to start the machine as you need to put your foot on it and stamp on it fairly firmly and as you see the spindle has stopped you will then need to just reset and the machine is live again okay that is the fastest way to stop the machine in any circumstance okay that is all of the safety features of the lathe for you to have a look at okay after the safety checks here we need to percolate for the turning operation and first we need to load a work holding device to the spindle and then we need to load the tool to the tool post first i want to show you uh three types of chucks what we use to to hold the materials and i will start with the big one this is for juice chucks and but this one is very easy to use because we can move the juice independently the next one is three juice chucks this one with the rotation of the key we move all three together and the last one is the collet chuck we use most of the time for the finished surface to protect the finisher surface of the product okay before we will load a chuck we need to make sure that our spindle yeah it's clean and damage and also our chuck yeah should be should be clean now the spindle have a scratch mark and this scratch mark we need to match with the chuck mark if i will find it yes okay we need to make sure on the cam lock don't damage them and okay for this to lock out we need to use a square bar this means with the square bar we need to tie the screw in the screw we have a line when it's matching the same line from the spindle it's open too close we need to move the line between these two v and we will move clockwise we don't try it now we bring all three together now we make sure that our chuck is tight and ready to be used okay i'll remove the the wood panel we use the wood panel to protect the bed of the light the next step like i say we need to put the tool in the tool post here we have a tool holder what we will load it on the two posts for this one we need two different keys one and for the tool holder and one to put the tool in the tool holder here we have four screw here please make sure all of them are tight let me start with the first one and then we move on the back one also make sure your tool is not too much out from the tool holder because we'll create vibration of the surface of the product okay now our tool is tight but before starting cutting we need to make sure our tool have the correct height how we check this we need to use a device this device is created to check the tool high this means we light on the bed and we bring the tools under the edge of this device i will open the tool post that i can move here we can lower here the tool or we can get it up so easy with the screw it's very important to measure that the top of the insert yeah we will rise until it's close closer and then will tie it up in this moment our machine is ready to be used thank you for watching i hope you enjoyed the video and if you like it leave us a comment and please don't forget to press the subscribe button and help us to grow our channel
