How To Understand Your Dreams | How God Speaks in Dreams | Biblical Dream Interpretation Explained

hi everyone i am melanie schroeder welcome to the crossing the jordan ministries youtube channel my husband is logan schroeder he is actually in the room next door with our seven week old beautiful little baby emilia noel so if you do hear her crying or anything i do apologize this is real life um nonetheless the topic of this channel you will see that there will be a variety of different biblical teachings and we'll be doing video devotionals for you we'll be speaking about deliverance how to get free how to stay free and also dream interpretation biblical dream interpretation how god like today's video is most is actually mainly about how god speaks in dreams and visions today um just a quick bit about me so you know um you know i'm not a flake uh i'm i've had very solid biblical um foundational teaching i've been through bible school i've hold an associate's degree in ministry i'm from river university formerly known as the river bible institute i've also studied all in probably an extra year was done studying through different ministries like streams ministries through john paul jackson the prophet john paul that jackson i've studied through global awakening randy clark i've been down to mozambique the mission school with iris heidi and roland baker so i've done a variety of different teachings and been part of bible school as i said and really this channel came about specifically i should say the dreams and visions side of it has come about because i was genuinely concerned and grieved in my spirit when i saw what was out there and what was being taught especially with the word biblical behind it you know as i said god speaks in a very specific way we can't cookie cut the method because obviously holy spirit is our very first point of contact when when we have a dream and we need to understand it we go and we pray we ask him for understanding that being said the bible is full of clues as to how god speaks that's why holy spirit is your first point of contact and the bible is always the second point of contact that being said we want to equip you in how god speaks because i'll say it again the way in which god spoke back in bible days has not changed and the bible says jesus christ the same yesterday today and forever that means that he hasn't changed he's always going to be speaking in the same way the bible also says that in the last days god is going to pour out his spirit on all flesh and that the result of that is ultimately going to be more dreams and visions so that is why it is so important for me personally who who loves the realm the supernatural realm of dreams and visions that god's people are equipped to understand what he's saying because you know you could miss something that's crucial and really it's when you understand the foundational keys to how god spoke back in bible days you'll see he it hasn't changed it's actually quite simple um obviously everyone is going to have um variances because everyone's uh frame of reference is different that being said there are some very clear keys to understanding how god speaks in your dreams so i'm going to jump right in dreams and visions was not limited to the old testament the first mention of dreams and visions was in genesis 20 verse 3. however if you go to the new testament the very first book matthew you will see from my quick look there was at least six mentions of god using a dream war vision to speak to his people that should tell you that nothing has changed what was back then in the old testament still applies today you know in the old testament god would speak through the prophet the king of the priest the the thing that has changed is that those of us that are born again and saved full of the holy spirit we have the holy spirit so we now have direct communication with god all the time and we can go to him and ask him for understanding on these things that being said we can't ignore the fact that in daniel i think it was 117 yes we see that god gives some people very specific giftings of understanding how to understand dreams interpret dreams so even though we have holy spirit we have to also understand that there is a gift that is given to some with a special understanding of dreams and visions now that doesn't mean that even those people would understand everything first corinthians 13 12 is very clear it says we see now we see through a glass darkly that means that we won't necessarily understand everything all of the time and the reason i mention this is because i've heard people say you know if if you don't if you wake up from the dream and you don't understand it immediately it just can't be god so you should disregard it and we you cannot do that because um you know you could miss something crucial and just because you don't understand it right away doesn't mean that it's not from the lord if you look and i'll prove the scripturally if you look at acts 10 um some of you might know the story of peter he goes up onto the roof and he goes into a trance and he sees the sheets load by its four corners full okay so if you know that story if you don't know that story just go read acts 10 and you'll see it you'll see here how peter has a vision and he comes out of the vision and it says that he doubted in his mind what that meant what the vision meant now if you are of in the camp that says you know we have the holy spirit and you should automatically understand how god speaks um you would disregard that you need to understand something acts 2 was the day of pentecost peter was already full of the holy spirit when this trance happened yet he still doubted in himself he wasn't sure now if he had disregarded that vision basically ultimately what it would have meant was that the gentiles would not have had an opportunity to receive jesus because that's what that whole trance was about so you can understand now just with that one example how important it is to to not just disregard certain things the bible in proverbs it says that it is the glory of god to conceal the matter yet it is the glory of kings to search a matter out it is to the glory of kings to search matter out basically what it's what that is saying is that when you have something a revelatory event god hides things in parables he's done it right throughout the world now a dream is a night parable he's hidden things in plain view ultimately and we are to go to him honor him praise him thank him for for giving you the revelatory event i mean firstly i mean the god of the universe has chosen you to show you something very specific so go to him search at the meta pray thank him for it and pray ask him what it's about you'll be surprised at what you find when you take time to actually search your mass out pressing in firstly asking holy spirit and spending time in the word to see has this thing that you've seen come up anywhere else in the bible and what did it mean when it was in the bible okay so um onto dreams dreams are typically more symbolic in the bible even and visions are more literal now i see that in my own life typically when i dream it's more symbolic but you see it right through the bible as well dreams are more symbolic and visions are more literal god in dreams god uses the characteristics of natural things to symbolically represent things to us in dreams for instance i'll give you an example jesus in the book of revelation jesus is symbolically represented as the lion and as a husband now think about the characteristics of the lion the lion is known as the king of the jungle it is majestic all powerful it rules everything a husband is symbolic it stands a husband stands for um everlasting covenant unending love love that never ends someone that will never leave never forsake he loves you through thick and thin sickness and in health now jesus is being compared to these things the lion and the husband the majestic the king the one that never leaves the one that will be there through thick and thin through private poverty through riches through it all so when you see this you can start to understand that when god uses something in the bible he's using the characteristics of that thing to make him to pass on a message he does this right throughout the word in corinthians first corinthians 2 12 he does it with the door speaking of an opportunity he uses the door symbolically as opportunity he speaks of garments in isaiah 61 he speaks of garments as garments as in clothing as robes of righteousness that which covers the covers our sins sought and that is speaking of righteousness obviously um the sword in hebrews 4 12 is spoken of um as god's word um something if you think of a sword what is it it's hard it's sharp it cuts to the very heart of the matter and in the same breath the sword in isaiah 3 actually is symbolic of destruction and bloodshed so that brings me to the next point you know symbols in the bible and in our dreams can have a positive or a negative context you have to ask yourself what is the context of this dream now if you're wondering how do i even know what the context of the dream is you have to ask yourself well how did i feel in the dream did it make me feel anxious now you've got to be careful also because god can give you a correction dream that makes you feel anxious because he's correcting something but the enemy can also bring correction the enemy can also bring dreams that make you feel anxious nightmares now that that's the next thing like when the enemy gives you a dream there's no light in it you know god brings life and light and color the enemy has no imagination everything he does is dark um enemies from uh dreams from the enemy are dark and uh they are like gray scale i'm not talking about dreams where you just you don't remember if it was in color i'm talking about a dream where you know that the whole dream was black and white or like muted colors it kind of looks like there was a light on in in the distance but you can't really see what the colors are typically those are not dreams from the lord because the lord brings life and light so those are just a quick comparison between a guard dream and not a dream but i mean if god is bringing you correction in a dream you have to look at is this a positive connotation or is he using this symbol in the negative if you for instance have swords coming out of your mouth like little knives coming out of your mouth and i speak about this particular dream because i've seen this um in in dreams that have people have brought to me um it was a warning you know god was literally saying to them they're not using their tongue wisely and you see that even in scripture the book of james talks about the tongue as a as the rudder of a ship and that basically means it has the ability to steer something massive such a small body part of our body has the ability to steer the course of our lives like a ship it can cause destruction or it can bring life so um that that is the very crux of symbolism and dream it's the characteristic behind what he's using another example would be water you know right throughout the bible water is shown to represent the holy spirit now if you think of a dream with a river what is a river it's moving water so what is that it's a move of the holy spirit if you then see the dream the the banks of the river bursting it's talking about a move of god that was once contained is no longer contained a river with the banks bursting is talking about revival the coming revival so i hope that this is helpful this is just a very brief overview of how god uses symbolism the characteristics of things in the natural to symbolically represent that which he's speaking of it's it's it's very clear right throughout the bible study study the prophetic books specifically revelation desire those types of books and as even even proverbs proverbs is full of this i hope you enjoyed this i
