[Music] [Applause] I'm right in the middle of a project I'm working on and I've got all these pieces of hope that I had to glue together to get it to the right thickness I was able to use the planer to get two parallel flat sides on here there are many videos out there about how to build a planer sled and that works really well for getting two sides completely flat so if you have one side that isn't real flat you can put it on here if you need to you can put some wedges or something underneath here and I've got just some sticky back tape here to hold it in place while it goes to the planer get one side flat and then you turn it over and run it through and get the other side flat the problem that I was running into is I don't have a jointer and I've got these edges that I need to get flat and I want them of course 90 degrees to this side and when I glue them up of course there's some evenness in there and so these will rock going through the planer I came up with a solution so I could joint these using the planer so here's the board I want to joint or plane on this edge and as you can see it will it rocks a little bit on here so if I ran just ran it through the planer this way I'm likely not to get a a side that's completely flat and I'm likely not to get it 90 degrees to either one of the edges I made this planar sled to help me with that this is just a piece of 3/4 inch plywood it's an old beat-up piece of plywood the main thing is it needs to be flat then I had two old legs from a old table that I had and I checked them and these are very square I screwed them in from the bottom side just a couple of screws just to hold them in there and I check to make sure that these are 90 degrees to the bed what this allows me to do is to take my stock put it in and I can make sure that the side is up against this board and I have this other one here so that I can take some wedges and push them in here to make sure that I'm pushing this board up against the side and then I also do that on this end so you can see that this side of the board is up against this board and I know that that's perfectly set at 90 degrees there the wedges hold it in so this can't go anywhere and then I can run it through the planer I put this at an angle on here just so I could use more of the blade width as it running through so I'm not wearing the blades down in just one area so now I have this side and this side should be 90 degrees here let's check that that looks pretty good to me of course I'm limited to about five and a quarter inches using this method there's three quarters of an inch with the plywood and my planer only goes to six inches so I can only get that five and a quarter inches or so with this method it's about 130 135 millimeters so if I have to do wider stock than that I'll have to find a different solution after I get this side plane down I'll be able to use it on the bed and run it through the planer this way but I have to plane a bunch more boards before I get to that I'll see you next time thanks for watching I appreciate the support
