How to Tie A String Line- The Best Way

hi i'm chris lord with crystal contracting and today i'm going to teach you the right way to tie your string line so here we go there's a lot of things that go with string lines like layout and squaring up a building but today just all about the proper way to tie it i can't tell you how many times i was on the job and i told someone to tie a string and i might as well tell them to solve the drake equation so you hammer your pin in now here's the important part you're gonna grab your hand make like a triangle just like that pinch it with your thumb and your finger down there now here's the part i'm gonna go pull loop see i just made that loop right there now here's another important part i'm gonna wrap it around the pin now the way that i pull it is important because if i pull it with the tie it'll just keep going around i have to go opposite and that makes it tight so see how come here and look at this [Music] you can see where the loop is how it's going this way so when you go opposite and that tightens up so now you're going to go to wherever your next desired point is follow me you never want to go longer than 20 foot from point to point if you go any longer than that you can get your line can sag and you don't want your line sagging so we'll go right about here we'll stake a pin in now here's the part how to get it tight you got to come and zoom in on this so now you're going to wrap it wherever your desired height is and in another video we'll get into heights and how to do all that now this is the part this is the money shot right here wrap it once right now where you're standing is key now my left hand i'm pulling the slack out of the line you have to zoom in right here and this is how i'm going to lock it my left hand i'm pulling the slack and my right hand as i'm pulling the slack i'm pulling this side to tighten it and i'm also pulling down to lock it you'll see right here where this goes on with this part of the line goes under that and then it's locked just on the way i'm manipulating the line now you ready watch it did you see it right there now it's locked right on that point the lines crisscross and now it's totally locked now you want to double check make sure it can be a little tighter so if you want to tell you anymore come same thing and just pull the slack give yourself and i'm pulling this and i'm pulling both ways and then if you want extra security you don't want that line to go nowhere you'll lock it it's like a like a double lock give yourself a little slack come around here and zoom in right here watch how i do this see i got the slack here i'm going to pull it through right there and that's it now that line's not going nowhere if you like this video please like share comment subscribe let me know what you think let me know what kind of content you'd like me to put out and hope to see you on the next one thanks
