so streamlabs is in some hot water at the moment and a lot of people have just been getting fed up with it over time anyway and i've had some questions about the process of switching from either streamlabs obs as a streaming program to obs studio or from streamlabs as an alert and bot provider and things like that over to another service like stream elements or what have you and i realized i've never really done one of these kinds of beginner how to switch videos so now is a better time than any if you want to know what the controversy is all about and all of that i have a whole breakdown video it's like 20 minutes long but lots of good detail linked in the video description if you want to learn more in this video i'm just going to walk you through doing a couple things we're going to we're going to kind of do it in real time as i do it for myself here we're going to walk through how to switch over your alerts from stream labs to stream elements i'm also going to recommend some alternatives we're going to convert your overlays from stream or from streamlabs obs to normal obs studio we're going to mess with some other stuff should be pretty good stick with me i'm eposvox the stream professor i make countless obs tutorials and streaming guides and things like that here on the platform and have for approaching a decade now which is pretty wild i have never really covered streamlabs obs in depth because i've always thought it was a terrible option and i have been very vocal about that and a lot of you all are finally wanting to switch and i understand there's a lot to it and you get comfortable in your ways and you don't want to you know you don't want to mess up your stream i get that make sure you don't get rid of streamlabs obs until you're sure that everything's working in obs or your alerts whatever i'm going to show you how to start making that transition i would say don't do it right before you go live one day and expect to still go live very smoothly immediately definitely take a weekend dedicated to working on it or something like that or take your sweet time and there will be a learning curve but hopefully i'll make it easier for you and i have tons of videos and resources linked in the video description for learning obs studio to get up and running with it i promise you once you have fully made the switch there will be very very very few of you probably counting on one hand that would actually regret switching from streamlabs obs to obs in the long run uh once you get the hang of it and i think it will your stream will be better for it real quick if you're unaware and this is news to you yes streamlabs obs and obs studio are separate programs obs studio is the original well classic obs would be the original but the original free streaming program developed by the community open sourced made available that i've been covering since like 2012 or 2013 and is the core program that has all the latest features plug-in support themes all kinds of expandability etc streamlabs a service that buys up a bunch of services and things like that took the source code because obs studios open source and took their branding which is not open source that is a trademark issue and created their own program on top of it called a fork they basically slapped their own bulky resource heavy overlay on top of obs studio and hyper monetize it so it is a separate program if you've been thinking you've been using obs the whole time and you've been on stream labs obs oh boy you got a whole world of stuff to unlock as we get through this in order to switch over your alerts to another provider you will of course need an account with said other provider i'm specifically going to show you how to set up everything with stream elements here which is a lovely alternative that i do recommend checking out if it's of interest to you however we do have other alternatives there's tippy stream donation alerts rain maker d stream caster labs toonette and stream tools and then martin here has a few others especially for other regions or if you're interested in bitcoin specifically you have some options here available for you if you want to check out some alternatives again we're just going to be rolling with stream elements here i have logged in and test the service a little bit but i haven't really used them a whole lot so we're kind of going to be setting this up in real time together with me now first and foremost you want to bring over your alerts and your chat boxes and things like that if you've had that set up so once you have created a stream elements account linked it with your twitch you'll log in and get to this dashboard once you're logged in click your profile picture in the top right hand corner go to import and here you can import things from all sorts of services if you've used other services we're going to focus on streamlabs but uh stream elements does also provide a stream bot so if you have things set up in nightbot you can import those as well which is pretty cool rip inkbot which was also bought up and shut down by streamlabs anyway we're gonna go to the importer we're gonna go to streamlabs click install this one specifically since obviously streamlabs doesn't want to support you importing from their service uh you have to use a chrome extension basically to bring the data over and then you can remove that extension once you're done so we're going to click install take you to the chrome web store click install add extension theoretically this extension should be fine with most chromium based browsers which is most of them these days then we're going to refresh now stream elements works where their intended use is for everything to be basically a browser source overlay so you don't have to do a lot of the file management on your computer which may be a lot easier to use than you're used to if you use obs studio or if that aspect of importing all the files and managing your overlay yourself in obs studio has been daunting to you this might actually be a lot easier for you to use and a lot of the graphics package creators such as nerd or die or owned create stream elements import links with all of their packages and i'm going to show you that as well so we can click start the tour it's going to show you all the different like ways to use it and just set up the editor that's fine come in here to the editor looks like ours is blank this is why we do things in real time i'm going to come back over here to streamlabs go to alert box make sure we have our alert profile set up let's launch the alert box and see what happens there we go i've confirmed i'm on the right profile here this is more or less what i want to work with so we have this accessed here in stream labs go to our extensions go to stream labs export to stream elements tips and alerts so it will actually import your tips history if you'd like so you can do that we can click start import it's going to upload your assets to stream elements and click done or you could have clicked to go to your stream elements page so we're going to do that now so here we have our stream labs imported alert box we can click preview you can see here it has the assets and the sounds for my different alerts so there we had cheers here we have followers subscribers things seem to be working pretty well so we have a url we can copy out i'm just going to change the name to retro vox alerts click save we'll go back now this will show up as a browser source as alerts typically do in obs studio and you can click copy url and paste that in the browser source we'll get to that in a moment though i did want to note that stream elements handles the concept of stream labels which were the text labels as part of themes and overlays that show your recent followers and things like that uh stream elements actually handles those as part of the overlay process rather than having a dedicated app that runs on your computer which is great for less blown on your computer but it does mean you probably want to try to import or rebuild your overlay in stream elements itself rather than an obs studio if you rely on that kind of element like i said before though we do have an advantage in that if you have your your alerts or your overlay rather made by people who are familiar with this process a lot of them including nerd or die make their overlays with steam stream elements quick install involved so here we have the streamos overlay set up from our friends over at nerdordie they did make me a custom epos os one however the stream elements install that they gave us only works for the standard stream os one so i will have to get them to make me another one but once we double click the html it will trigger an import on stream elements as end and then you have your different scenes and things like that set up here in stream elements that you can go ahead and preview which is pretty cool so now all your overlays and your alerts are imported into streamlabs obviously if you have little specific details that we haven't covered you'll have to import those on your own we're kind of covering the higher level aspect here something very important you want to make sure you don't forget change your tips or your donation links for your twitch panels for your bots for your discord for your profiles all of that your video descriptions change your tip link from your stream labs link to your stream elements link or else you're not going to get alerts for that and you're not going to know what's happening that is the easiest thing everyone can forget and i do not want you to forget it please please please write it on a sticky note put it on your monitor make sure you remember to keep double and triple checking this because it is very important for example here in stream elements under revenue we have tipping settings here you can set up and link all of your different payment information in order to get your tip links set up and then you get a tipping page link and this is the one i will be swapping in and again i will have to remember to change this for everything too hopefully i don't mess it up you have a nice little tipping page that doesn't have an auto subscribe for some random bs subscription service it's just pay the streamer and be off to the races which is really nice so make sure you copy this link and paste it in your twitch panels and everything else so that you can get things moving appropriately if you're worried about merch uh stream elements does have some services for that i don't think i actually have access oh yes i do they have partnerships and sponsorships that you can unlock over time and then you also have a merch store that you can set up very similar to streamlabs setup it will require a little bit more setup to import like your graphics for your shirts and things like that if you want to do that but you do have the option of doing that here and again just make sure you're recommending people your updated merch link and things like that so everything goes well and then this integrates with their alerts and with their chat bot and stuff like that so you get shout outs for people who buy your merch in your stream the next step is if you are subscribed to cancel your stream labs prime subscription which they appear to be based on some tweets kind of fudging the the the accessibility to that cancel button or to the unsubscribe button so i will have a tweet linked in the video description well i would just have the link itself but i have a link in the video description which takes you directly to the unsubscribe page for prime shout outs to josh is trying to join starfleet here for direct linking this because if you try to go through the normal page it will tell you that you can't do it now i've already canceled mine forever ago so not a big issue for me uh but you will have a cancel button here on the specific page in your dashboard to cancel your streamlabs prime you don't want to keep getting charged for something you're not using which is how streamlabs has made a significant amount of their money all right next up let's convert your streamlabs obs files to obs studio thankfully the obs devs have already implemented a feature for this forever ago that make it super easy step one in streamlabs obs verify which scene collection you specifically want to import i have a few different ones here make sure you know the name of the one that you want to import if you're using one of the ones i i need to note this even though i feel like it should be self-explanatory but someone's going to forget or ask or not have realized it and then get mad if you have one of the themes that you paid for as a subscription through streamlabs directly you can't really take that with you to obs studio you there's some work arounds but that's technically piracy and i want to be better than streamlabs in that regard and not support you doing that but if you paid for a theme that you subscribed to through streamlabs obs unfortunately you can't take that with you i do recommend checking out nerd or die affiliate link in the description however once you open up obs studio here i'm going to go ahead and make a actually i'm going to go to scene collection import and this gives you the option it detects your scene collections from other programs so for example it detects one that i have in xsplit as well as a few that i have in stream labs as well so here you see a couple different ones i'm gonna go ahead and double i'm gonna click on both of those and i'm gonna try the geometric madness one is actually using a streamlabs theme so i'm gonna try that out as well we're gonna click on those three and click import it's gonna freak out for a second take a second and then when you go to your scene collection window or menu those scene collections will be here so you can see the two retro wave ones and then the geometric madness let's try that one first yeah that one doesn't have anything oh it does it did it the mad lads this is probably a free layout uh i will disclose that i this is probably a free layout which is why it worked but it did import this was a layout provided within streamlabs obs not a third-party layout and it imported it natively with the importer as well so that's pretty cool and then we have my other ones that i got from nerd or die set up in here as well so it will have some missing texts and things like that that'll pop up that you'll have to re-link and of course you will have to go back through and set up your webcams and capture card devices make sure they're all linked up properly and your browser source for your new alerts and overlays and this is all if you're not doing it with your stream elements overlays if you're doing stream elements overlays i'm just going to make a new scene collection here stream elements then all of the graphics themselves are handled through your browser sources so for example this will be a starting soon screen actually we don't even need to edit it we can come in here to copy url go into obs add browser source starting soon paste it in there paste the resolution and click ok and bam then we can make a new scene we'll call this in game add a browser source gameplay you cannot have your scenes and sources be named the same thing so just name them slightly differently i'll come over here to in-game copy url go back to obs studio paste 1920 by 1080 click ok and look at that overlay now of course when you import the nerd or die overlays they have a few different options for you to choose from so you just have to go through and get rid of the sources that you don't specifically want but then underneath this we can start adding sources so webcam will up here my cam link i can drag my camera here move the source below the overlay and drag it and fit it into one of these webcam sources and then hold alt to crop and drag on the box to crop and bam and again of course in the stream and the stream elements editor specifically we can get rid of those extra sources so if we come in here i can find these delete i can delete all that delete delete delete delete delete the top bar and delete this second bar here and we'll click save now if we come back to obs studio it auto updates and if not you can go to refresh right there and it will reload it and it auto detects all of the text since we use the nerd or die importer so we got our top donation our new donation and our new follower bam it's that easy of course go into your settings and audio and make sure your audio devices are here so this one doesn't have any so for example i'll need to add in my microphone which would be right here and then your desktop sound and all of that you'll have to check your audio devices if you are unfamiliar with obs studio and setting that up i have a obs master class from 2018 it's a slightly older version of obs but like 99 of the details are still accurate i'm working on a new one stuff takes a lot of time but i have a lot of both beginners actually i have updated beginners tutorials as well uh beginners advanced and intermediate tutorials linked in the video description as well as on my website both linked below if you want to get up to speed with obs studio i can't provide you a full hands-on walk through here just because of time also join us on discord discord.ggsheepsfox in order to get we can help provide support for your your conversion and with obs in general and help you optimize your stream [Music] i've been sharing my cooking experiments and progress with you all all year on discord and twitter showing my grill adventures and fancy meals my wife and i have been making inside while i'm not starting a cooking channel anytime soon despite the requests it has been fun but can i be real with you for a sec i love cooking and learning to cook and making something delicious that really gives you that feeling of just when you're done but i actually hate what comes before planning and prepping for meals as a new dad time is slim nights are hectic and i i rarely feel like i have the time to just sit down and actually plan out or prepare for the meals that i want to make during the week and even when i do i may not be in the headspace for it hellofresh helps eliminate those stressors while still allowing us to feel like we're eating like royalty which is pretty nice hellofresh offers 50 menu and market items to choose from every week including vegetarian calorie smart and gourmet options providing plenty of variety the weekly delivery helps you cut back on prep time and the cleanup afterwards and even has a wide variety of 20 minutes meals for those who really need to move fast you know the no time to cook i have a a meeting in like half an hour kind of people the pre-packaged ingredients means that most of the hard part is done for you with you just doing a little chopping a little cooking and a lot of eating plus you get things pre-portioned so no more making meals for tin when you mean to make a meal for two my wife and i really enjoyed trying new things with some of these and discovering new meals that we'll probably make regularly now and you get to keep the recipes if you're struggling to cook your way through the holidays head on over to hellofresh.com and use code eposvox14 for up to 14 free meals and three free gifts it's worth it even as a picky eater i wasn't really sure about trying this kind of thing but the recipes even call for situations where you could not include specific ingredients if you don't prefer them and you get to pick the kind of meals you want in the first place again that's hellofresh.com and code eposvox14 for up to 14 free meals plus three free gifts happy eating all right we are going to take this a step further to help you be a little bit more familiar with this process with obs moving from streamlabs obs you may notice that in my screen here i have a fancy purple theme that yours doesn't look like i have a video in the description below that shows you how to get themes for obs studio and some examples that i prefer but there's actually a theme designed to make it look like streamlabs obs so you can download it and just put it in your c program files obs studio data obs studio and then you have to make your own themes folder and put this in there and it will look like streamlabs obs so i'm going to do that really quick some themes contain a set of fonts that you will have to install as well just right click those and click install before you open up obs studio so here's what a theme folder looks like with a bunch of different themes set up then we'll relaunch obs here all right now once you've relaunched obs go to settings general theme and there are two different stream labs themes here on the obs forum so we're just going to look at both of them this one's called streamlabs gives you the nice dark kind of green aesthetic although it kind of breaks a little bit with the dark theme with the fonts i'm not as big of a fan but then there's another one just called slobs and this one loses like the check boxes and stuff but still maintains the colors and things like that so if you want that extra little bit of familiarity you can kind of get it here with this theme i'm not sure i'm a fan of how it looks overall personally but it's there now looking at a couple other features you might be missing from streamlabs obs we have two different things i want to talk about the first is kind of the most requested feature that streamlabs obs has that obs studio doesn't which is the ability to source record or record a specific source separate from your whole stream to save like your face cam separate from your overlay and things like that this currently is not enabled or is not a feature that's integrated into obs studio directly but there is a plug-in for it obs studio is designed to have like a core set of features and then be expanded through their plug-in ecosystem and there's a wide gamut of plugins that allow you to do some pretty insane stuff with obs studio there is a plugin for it from the wonderful gentleman known as xeldro that allows you to get basically this exact same feature i have a tutorial link in the description below along with a link to that plug-in if you want to learn more and if you want to learn more about expanding beyond what you think you could do with obs when you're limited to streamlabs obs i have multiple videos about obs studio plugins i have a playlist linked in the description below as well for you to check out because oh boy you could do a lot and the last feature i wanted to mention that streamlabs has kind of built in with their service that obs studio doesn't is the ability to remote control it with your smartphone however there are a lot of options for that of course there's the elgato stream deck if you want the physical device stream deck has a mobile app i'm not a huge fan of it compared to touch portal touch portal is available for free there is a paid upgrade to get you more buttons and things like that but it is an app that allows you to control a wide gamut of programs from both your phone and old tablet so you can buy like some super old android tablet mounted up and get a ton of buttons to control not only obs but your computer on the whole and things like that it is super powerful and like i said it's free for the most part there's a paid tier but it's free to start with and it's absolutely incredible and if you're using that streamlabs remote feature i highly recommend checking this out all right that's probably going to wrap it up for me i wanted to keep this relatively short and it's already been 30 minutes of recording here i just wanted to keep it simple if you have any additional questions again check out our link in the video description to discord.js fox our discord server we can help you out there tutorials everything i mentioned linked below hit the like button uh let me know what you think about this whole situation in the comment section and remember be kind rewind
