hi everyone and thanks for joining me for another sublimation video today we're going to be making this shirt right here so i got a another white sweatshirt and we're just going to recreate this exact sweatshirt from start to finish this is a hundred percent cotton shirt so we're going to be using a product called poly t plus i've used it in other an earlier video and i will link that in the description right here it's a great product and it does allow you to sublimate onto cotton substrates now i will tell you that eventually it's going to fade a little bit it's not as permanent as putting sublimation on polyester because you're actually sublimating the product that you're putting on the sweatshirt but it still looks great after several washes it's just not going to be quite as vibrant as day one but um we've had great luck i've used it for the kids i like to do the kids shirts and cotton t-shirts they're just more comfortable for them so i've used it a lot on theirs and their stuff gets washed a lot and the images are still there they're still vibrant and pretty they're just i will tell you that it's not going to look exactly like this you know after 20 30 washes so not a problem it's not gonna go away but this product is pretty amazing and i will link it in the description below but i wanted to walk you through step by step so let's get started the first thing we have to do is prepare our sweatshirt now while that we're preparing that i went ahead and i set my heat press to 330 degrees and i set my timer for 30 seconds that's the first setting that we're going to be using we are going to be switching it up a little bit throughout the process so let me flip the camera around and show you how we get this prepared okay so as i said this is a 100 cotton t-shirt or sweatshirt i'm not sure where it says it but it is just a hanes sweatshirt um so we're going to open this up and i like to put a little silicone mat on the inside just so that i'm not soaking the back of the shirt because we're not going to be doing a press on the back of the shirt so i am going to go ahead and put that inside literally just took this out of the package from amazon so that's why it's all wrinkled but we'll be getting rid of the wrinkles soon enough so i'm just gonna get it in there like i said i'm just this just helps to use a little bit less product because you're not soaking the back of the sweatshirt so this is my press from the previous shirt and i could actually redo this it would just be a little bit lighter because there's still a lot of ink on here so i might put this on a t-shirt but you only want to put the product the poly t plus on the area of the shirt where the design is going to be you don't want to just saturate the whole thing so that's what i like about this mat it's about the same size but if you don't know go ahead and just you know you could put this down put a little tape on your shirt as a marker in the four corners and then you know about how big you need to make your design so the first thing we're going to do is you want to get those pretty saturated not sopping wet but pretty saturated the polyt plus comes in a concentrated bottle and then you mix it with water i actually have a bottle grab that real quick my sprayer quit working but i got mine in this bottle and i don't know if you are if she still gives you the bottle or not otherwise you get it in a concentrate and you have to mix it so you add two ounces of poly t plus to six ounces of water and all i did was transfer this into here because like my sprayer quit spraying so this is just a simple little spray bottle nothing fancy so again we're just going to start spraying this and we just want to spray that area where the image is going to be and then i'm going to take this this is just like a paint roller if you have a brayer that works and i'm just pushing that product into the sweatshirt this is getting pretty wet this product goes a long way like i said it comes in a concentrate and then you just mix it with water so this is still this is the very first bottle i ever got what was left in it [Music] so one bottle goes a long way all right that pretty saturated once you have that done we're going to remove that silicone pad and i'm going to stick this on the heat press okay so here is our sweatshirt i'm going to go ahead and put this on the heat press now again i've got this set to 3 30 at 30 seconds i have a flower sack towel down over the platen that's just going to protect it from getting any product on it and i'm just going to lay the sweatshirt right on right where that wet area is perfect and then we want to cover it with some parchment paper you don't want to use regular paper that will stick just some regular parchment paper is good and we're going to press it 330 degrees for 30 seconds all right time's up i'm going to lift it up i'm going to leave the sweatshirt on but i'm going to remove my parchment paper i'm going to take my poly t plus and i'm going to give this a spray one more time in the same area a light spray it doesn't have to be as heavy of a spray as it was that first time i'm going to use my roller i'm going to roll this out one more time perfect recover it with parchment paper recover it with parchment paper and then this time we're going to press it for 20 seconds all right that's 20 seconds i'm going to lift it up and go ahead and remove my parchment paper now i'm going to change the press to 385 and i'm going to set the timer for 70 seconds so while this was heating up i sent the image to the sawgrass sg1000 this is the same as the sg500 this is a sublimation printer it has sublimation ink in it you cannot do this with an inkjet printer the difference between the sg500 and the sg1000 is the sg-1000 allows you to print on really big paper so it allows me to get this full adult large shirt um print very easily it's great for your larger projects like tote bags and things like that you can also print eight and a half by eleven in that printer but i really love this option so that's why i wanted to get the sg 1000 so either one is a great addition to your craft room so i'm going to grab some scissors and i'm just going to cut this down just to make it a little bit easier to manage and again i probably could have fit more than one image on this piece of paper but i decided i would for the video we only need one so i think we're almost heated up here the next step we do is to preheat our shirt to ensure that there's no more moisture left in the shirt so we're going to cover this back up with our parchment paper and we're going to give it a press for about 10 seconds or so at 385 just just enough to give it make sure that all that moisture is out of the shirt and i think that's sufficient i'm going to remove that parchment paper now this is going to feel a little bit stiff at first once you wash it that stiffness will come out but it does kind of give it like a starchy feeling um excuse me while i reach over here and grab my heat transfer tape so we're going to take our image and we're going to put this now face down on the shirt i'll set this over here and i'm just going to eyeball it you guys can measure it i'm not that picky but just kind of getting it generally and centered and generally straight and then i'm just going to tape it down in four corners just to make sure that this thing doesn't move around when i open and close the hatch of the heat press when i push that platen down i don't want it to move the shirt at all because that can cause ghosting all right grab that parchment paper one more time we're gonna stick that on the shirt just like this and if you wanted to batch process these what i would do is do the first part at 3 30 on all of your shirts get the poly t plus on there for all the shirts and then hike your temperature up and do all your transfers at one time that would make the most sense um so we're going to do 385 70 seconds make sure you put that parchment paper on there you don't want to burn your shirt so this is a really cool product again it's um a die press poly t plus and it is really nice if you like to do sublimation on something other than the high count polyester shirts i personally prefer cotton um however i will say the polyester is going to give you that permanent uh not going to fade long long lasting effect these i have like i said i made them for the kids the grandkids and they have washed up very nicely they just get you know they're soft you can't feel the design on it now when you first press these you can like i said you can feel it it kind of has a starchy feeling and i'll show you that in a second or see if i can get it so that you can hear it um how it feels but that first wash the poly t part will wash out and then it won't feel stiff or weird but really really nice product i enjoy it all right we're almost done four three two one we're gonna remove our transfer sheets and again you can i don't know if you guys can see this but you can barely see the image on those transfer sheets they're not good anymore that could transfer to the next project if you don't get rid of those you want to remove your image quickly and swiftly so that you don't get any ghosting because that's still hat remove my tape there we go and so here's our finished design let me get up here so you can get a really close look at how well that image transferred now this is what i was talking about you hear that let me get it by the microphone you hear that it kind of has a starchy feeling to it that that will wash out after the very first wash so really great way to transfer to cotton products if you want to sublimate on cotton again always recommend that you use a high count polyester at least 60 percent or better you can you can transfer if you try to sublimate on a 100 cotton shirt without any product it will sublimate but that ink is only going to stick to polyester fibers so it will just wash out the first time you wash it it's just going to wash away so you know you can try to sublimate you know 50 50 and it's going to look really nice fresh out of the press but after that first wash 50 of that ink that's stuck to the cotton fibers is going to wash out so that's why this poly t plus it actually applies a polyester coating to the fibers so that's what the ink sticks to so i hope that makes sense i hope you guys enjoyed this video thanks so much for watching and never stop making see ya bye as always i have all of the products used linked in the description below the video please feel free to check those out and if you enjoyed this video here are some others that you might enjoy thanks you
