does your voice crack when you sing if it does you will love these two exercises that I have for you which tackle this exact problem and help you smooth out your tone vocal cracking is a huge problem for many beginner singers now before I show you these two exercises you need to know that there is a difference between vocal cracks and vocal breaks I'm going to demonstrate a vocal crack for you warning it will sound awful and I'm going to exaggerate it but bear with me because I just want to show you what a vocal crack is this is a vocal crack Oh horrible crack yeah these usually occur involuntarily and often at the most inopportune time so what causes your voice to crack well it varies from singer to singer because every instrument every singer is different however as a general rule it can come down to things like a lack of muscle control surrounding your vocal folds not warming up properly before you sing too much tension in your body or not having enough airflow coming through your instrument as you sing and lastly but I think most importantly vocal placement and this is where you're resonating your sound around your instrument now I could go into explaining all of these different factors but it would be very long-winded complicated and it probably wouldn't help you very much so instead I'm just going to show you these two fantastic exercises that work on helping you smooth out your vocal tone and get rid of cracks I actually use these myself in my vocal practice particularly if I haven't sung for a while because my voice your voice does get out of shape you've got to think of yourself as kind of like an athlete you know and if you haven't gone and done your exercise or whatever it is for you know a week or however long then you do tend to kind of get a little bit out of shape it's exact same thing if you're a singer so I do this exercise first I call them elevator slides and again they're going to sound pretty nasty because they're designed to get rid of cracks but I'm gonna demonstrate it for you and I feel free to sing along hmm he's an evil siren a couple of times now if my voice catches which is quite often when I'm on when I haven't warmed up I do this and I'm gonna exaggerate this voice yeah I'm deliberately cracking but just an idea okay so I do that exercise I I do this in the car usually with a stereo on and the windows up so no one else can hear me on the way to the gig then once you've kind of done that a few times then you're feeling a little bit warmer then you can move to the next exercise which is the same thing but using an AA vowel and the reason we use the our vows second is because it places your residents further back into your throat and you're more susceptible to cracking so you do this deep breath in [Music] okay and you just keep going on and if it's cracks uh-huh really relax over those cracks yeah other thing you need to know about cracking is it becomes a bit of a psychological effect for singers if you're on stage and you're you're performing or you know evening in your singing lesson and you're thinking to yourself don't crack don't crack what do you think is gonna happen you'll crack so get comfortable with cracking cracking is now your friend do this exercise and crack to your heart's content because it will really help you smooth out the vocal breaks these exercises are magic I do them myself and there are a lot of fun so just have fun with it and I really hope that they help you I hope you've enjoyed this tip if you have please hit the like button and make sure you subscribe to my channel because I do put up new singing tips all the time and you don't miss out also if you would like more professional singing tips and secrets head on over to my website singer secret calm and hop on to my email list because I do put extra singing tips and secrets into those emails that I don't share anywhere else and you don't want to miss out thank you so much for watching I'm Nicola Milan and I'll talk to you again soon [Music]
