hey guys I just wanted to show you this honda lawn more i'm working on it's got the GCV 160 engine and a common problem with these that you'll run into when you're servicing them or working on them is they'll surge now this machine has a blade clutch so what that means is this button and this lever here combined to connect the blade to the engine when you're mowing and when you release that bar the blade disconnects but the engine keeps running it's a nice feature if you have to dump the bag a lot of times while you're mowing other than that it makes it a little bit easier to start but I also find that these mowers that have this feature tend to surge more than Moors that don't the Moors that when you start the blades start spinning right away and when you let go of the bar the mower shuts off so if this serves as a slight bit when it's cold and you start it and it goes away that's normal but if it does not stop surging and continues the whole time you use it it's got a problem and I'll show you how to fix that so anyways this more is warm I just did a service on it clean the carb sharpen the blade change ll unplug and and it's not the surge is not going away and I'll show you here so if we choke the Machine give it a pull so that's the mower will work but that's annoying it will go away when you engage the blade but really to service someone's machine and give it back to them like this is not professional and though they may notice they may not notice they might be used to it but do you give it back and it runs smooth and proper they're going to be really happy they're going to probably call you back and recommend you to their friends so I'm going to stop video here and I'm going to take this carb apart and show you how to fix this and start the video at that point save us a few minutes here so stick with me I'll be right back alright guys so I got the carburetor off the machine and here it is and if you take a flathead screwdriver and thread it up inside you will get out the main jet right there and you will get an emulsion tube you want to make sure that those tiny tiny little holes those two those two and then you can't really see them but there's two more and two more at this end make sure they're clean what I like to do is take a piece of bicycle brake cable and untwist it and use the little strands to poke the holes out the other thing is this main jet due to emissions these days these things are so fine to the wire small that hole that you see there that these things run lean and when they run lean you get that surge so what I like to do is figure out what number jet this is this one if you look at it carefully it's either 55 or 65 it's hard to tell so I would go find a 65 and like a 68 or something a couple numbers higher throw it into the carburetor and it usually fixes the problem of the surge the other thing you can do is take a welding tip cleaner which is going to not work for me right now now this guy here and it's got some ultrafine files in it little tiny ones over you can see at the end and you what you want to do is file out that hole just a hair tiny tiny little bit put it all back together try running it and if it works better you've done it if it doesn't work as good as you want it to then take it back out and file it open a little bit more so that's the way to make these things stop surging because you'll drive your customer crazy if you give it back while it's surging so I'm going to file this one I'll put it back together and make a quick little finish up video hopefully this thing running nice and smooth see in a bit alright so we filed out that jet that I showed you and put it back together I'm going to give her a start you can hear it's already running richer much better so there is how you get these things to run nice and smooth yeah thanks for watching
