I love seafood especially Dungeness crab it's one of my all-time favorites ever since I moved to California I've been able to find fresh seafood and crab for a fairly reasonable price on this day I happen to be at Little Tokyo marketplace and came across Dungeness crab that was only $5.99 a pound of course I had to pick some up and take it home I like to steam Dungeness crab but realize that this can be intimidating I promise that this is super easy and I'll show you guys how after you've rinsed them give them about five minutes to calm down the most humane way to kill a crab is by freezing it this will basically put it to sleep sort of like a coma once they've calmed down you can use your heavy-duty tongs to place them back into a bag and then set that in the freezer for two hours in the meantime you can prep your crab dipping sauces and get your steaming equipment ready I like to have gel some with my seafood that's basically a sweet sour spicy dipping sauce that's made with ginger garlic chilies fish sauce and lime there is a video on that and I'll go ahead and link that above I filled my pot about a quarter of the way up with water then I'm adding salt and Thai basil the basil isn't going to add any flavoring to the crab it's just gonna add a nice aroma while it's steaming once the two hours are up your crabs should be fully asleep remove them from the bags and place in the steamer baskets transfer the baskets onto your steamer gonna take it downstairs and rinse it off the other one giving the crab another rinse to get rid of any crab fat or anything that came out of them while they were steaming breaking down a crab is pretty easy you want to remove the top starting from the backside now you want to remove the gills then we're gonna pull flip it around and remove the apron and then I'm gonna rinse this off I'm not going to eat any of the crap that cleans it and then you can just take these legs apart put them on a plate and serve them up you having an early dinner tonight but it is a very good one with some steak Dungeness crab yum-yum you
