what's up guys and welcome back to another video so on the channel I've been showing a lot how to solder in walls and everything but I never showed how to go about soldering when the pipe in question is in between two studs and has no flexor given it in my other videos I would just cut the pipe move it out of the way and connect it but in the real world this is almost never the case and in this video I'll show you how to deal with this problem in a couple of different ways so without further ado let's jump right into it the first thing I try to do would be to actually force them upwards or downwards to try to get the right angle and sometimes with smaller pipes like half inch it does the job but if it's 3/4 of an inch it's too tough to flex between two studs so the next option is to cut the pipe a few inches down on each side and to use what we call a slip coupling now there's two types of couplings a normal coupling and a slip coupling here's your normal coupling which has little stopper stamped into it to make sure both of the pipes are centered when inserted all the way in and the slip coupling is just straight without any of these we'll do one together in a second and I want you to watch till the end because there's some important steps not to miss the idea is to cut two pieces of pipe for it to fit snugly in between and use to slip couplings to close the loop now chances are you'll go to your big-box store and guess what they won't carry them or they'll be out of stock so here's what you could do if that's the case get yourself a normal coupling and file down the little bump stops with a round file now I hear all of the plumbers out there saying you can't do that because you're thinning out the coupling wall and my answer to that is you're not wrong but I've done this hundreds of times and I've never had any short-term or long-term problems the solder basically fills in the joint so you don't have to worry about anything and if you are you could always fix it the right way afterwards by using a true slip coupling once you find one there's also these options right here this here is an adjustable slip coupling that fits over the pipe on one end and into the fitting on the other and are quick to use as you don't have to use a piece of pipe like before there's also some sharkbite fittings that work as well for those who don't want to solder like this fitting right here or better yet a slip tee fitting which makes it super quick and easy to add a branch to an existing line if you guys want to purchase anything you see in this video I'll have a link to each product in the description box below so let's go ahead and do one together from scratch first off we have to cut the pipe on both sides and personally my favorite copper cutter is the auto cut cutter to do this just align it close it and spin it till it's cut gotta love it so you want to align your tee fitting where it needs to go and cut two pipes so they fit perfectly in between and slip your couplings in place now there's one important step that you can't skip when doing this or you're almost sure of having a leak and that's to mark the pipe let me explain if you were to not mark the pipe there'd be the possibility of you not centering the slip coupling and you wouldn't have enough solder to hold the joint so it's super important to take that extra 30 seconds to mark the pipe on each side once everything is assembled and ready fire up your torch and solder away for those who want to learn how to solder I have a very thorough soldering video and you could watch it by clicking on this card right here good and that pretty much sums it up I hope I was able to help you out for your project and if I did please help support the channel by smashing the like button sharing and subscribing for more cool upcoming videos and until the next one thanks for watching you
