How to Sleep (Comfortably) in a Compact Car

hi friends so i just got back from a road trip where i slept in this car this is a tiny compact car a tiny little saturn and i slept very comfortably so i'm going to show you how to sleep comfortably in a compact car i'll show you what it looks like with all of my stuff in the car because i have it set up so that the bed can stay as is nothing's on top of it and i can just get into bed without having to move anything so it worked out really perfectly so stay tuned okay so for sleeping in a compact car you can lay across the back seats or sleep in the front seats and that is the most uncomfortable that i've ever done and i would rather sleep on the cold pavement okay so step one for sleeping in a compact car is going to be pulling down these back seats now we have this surface and it's not flat right here and it tilts upwards so obviously head is going to go up here and feet down there so i'm about five foot four and with my head right here and my feet down at that end i can stretch completely straight so if you are taller than that it's gonna be a little more difficult you probably won't be able to go completely straight but it's gonna be a lot more comfortable than sleeping in the front seat or sleeping across these back seats with my car i can lift this up so the first thing i do is i stuff something right here right now i'm using a towel and then underneath and then when i velcro this shut it kind of creates more of a flat surface so i have these two folded towels here and then i just close the velcro and it's still kind of bumpy but we're gonna keep building up the cushions and so it won't be noticeable in the end and if you don't have the velcro just obviously put the towels on top now that we've built a good base with the back seats folded down this is the fun part this is where we get to build up the bed and you get to be creative so i'll show you what i did when i'm done i've finished setting up the bed and i'll show you what my layers are i have yoga mats and then a one inch foam and then two different comforters and then i have old pretty flat pillows i have three of them going across to the back and then i have this air mattress that doesn't really fill up with air but it still is a cushion enough and then i sleep inside the sleeping bag and i have another pillow um right there with this setup um it the cushions are very thick which is super comfortable but that means that if i want to lay on my side my hips go on this side on the trunk side and then my waist kind of goes in this groove and then my upper body goes um up here um but if i want to lay on my back then i'm i can stretch out completely but again i'm 5'4 so if you're taller it's gonna be you probably won't stretch out fully unless you have a longer car because this car is really small literally do not buy anything new i i didn't buy anything for this i just used what i had and i'll show you what it looks like from the back so there's the trunk this is folded over because it just had excess so my feet have a little bit of an uphill but that's fine because so does my head here is the final setup i've got my bed right here i have my bin of camping supplies and my bag of clothes that i put up there to kind of give me some privacy i put some other things up there too i put that down when i drive and then i did bring my tent just in case but i have loved the car set up so i haven't used the tent at all and my little emergency bathroom bucket my fish cd binder um i've i've gone between fish cds my old super old nano ipod and podcasts on my phone and i haven't gotten bored since or yet and then um my cooler that i'd only store beer in because you don't what else do you need and then yeah so driver's seat this is my privacy cover that i use at night which i can show you and then this is my bin of food dry food my camera and my wallet and stuff that i keep up front it's a lot more condensed as you can see now that everything's in there but it all fits and then tomorrow i can wake up make my food and get on the road and not worry about anything this is what it looks like when it's all set up with the privacy curtains that i've put up all around so this is a twin size sheet and i'm just using the handles on the sides and just kind of doing anything i can i got a towel across the visor another towel and then the sheet that just goes all the way around so this gives me a lot of inside space and i am completely hidden from the outside so it's really good to do this so that you just feel more comfortable can we all take a moment just to appreciate how much stuff i have managed to fit in this tiny little car all that bedding and all of my camping stuff we got that that i tried to stuff it all in the trunk when i was in san francisco that obviously didn't work
