hi guys it's Sebastian here from noble frugal studio and today I'm going to show you guys how to shade like a pro in open tunes so as you guys can see here AB a sketch of a drawing and then what's sort of a finished version I didn't really of course it's still a little bit of a sketch as I didn't finish it completely but I just wanted to get the idea across of what a shading would look like on a semi finished drawing so as you can see I used them a method to outline the planes of the face we have the frontal plane right here on the side so we know where to put the shading that's what I'm gonna emphasize in this video guys I don't want to say that if you're not artistically inclined you can't do this but I gotta said like learning to draw is gonna help you guys a lot when it comes to animation in general and especially for this skill if you want to learn how to add shading something you got to learn the planes of the face and the construction of the face in general what are we doing okay auto-saving nice so as you can see I outlined the plane of the nose so I knew where to put the shading in general and it's not really not that difficult I would recommend I'll put some videos in the description for you guys to watch on construction and that should help you guys outline what parts of the face should be shaded and what parts should be in the light without further ado I'm going to draw a new face that we're going to try this shading method on and take guys step by step on how to do it so let's go [Music] okay so I think that we have everything that we need in place in order for us to add shading to this drawing so I'm gonna lower the opacity on the overlay that I did the sort of line art and as you can see on the sketches let me lower a little bit more hold on let me get that here we go go down to like 18 on the sketches you know that's not what I meant on the sketch you see that I have these lines right where that cross that symbol is I have these lines that indicate the plane of the face of this whole this this front part right here that's the front part of the face that's gonna be the lights gonna be hitting and this side right here is where it's all gonna be shaded out and I kind of marked where I wanted to the hair to be shaded to it like right here and add some on the neck - I didn't mark that but let's just get started okay so we're gonna add a new layer it's gonna be a raster layer cuz I work in rostered because I like raster and we're gonna choose I'm gonna choose a couple colors okay they're gonna be very dark colors but they're not gonna be black that's what we don't want you don't want completely black because that will it doesn't look right when you're shading things that have color on them using black is not a usually a good idea unless your color is extremely dark and we have a sort of a light chocolate brown right here so we're just gonna go follow this line and I'm gonna use the mat in feature and open tunes so we really don't have to worry about whether our shading goes outside in this part so I'm just gonna sketch where I want the shading to be let's do this just make a little circle or ace like a half circle on the neck that just kind of goes out of nowhere after a while all right so now we're gonna take this line we're gonna drag it across the hair cuz I don't I want to shade the hair a more red color I want it to be different than the color that we use to shade [Music] all right so that's what we got so far we're gonna lower the opacity and then we're gonna take our our drawing right here bring it back up there we go now the shading really shows through it looks really good so far so you see this line right here this line right here is sticking out and it doesn't matter because we're gonna use one of the effects in the effects schematic right after I add just a little bit of shading under this nose let's do something like this yeah something like that and then we're gonna fill that in circle that fill it in Oh beautiful nice well I forgot to color on the mouth but we can also do a different shading color for the eyes I'm just gonna do this right before I go into the effects schematic because it doesn't get a little bit complicated so I just want to make sure we have everything we need [Music] [Music] now we're going to go to the animation tablet tab where we have the effects schematic and so I'm just gonna as an example I'm going to go to our shading layer and just scribble outside so it because it doesn't really matter so we're gonna do is we're going to go to Shady we're gonna right click and go to Matt and they're gonna do Matt in okay so that's the source we're gonna drag our line art and color into the Matt section and then we want to make sure that there's another string going from here into the X C or else our art drawing will not show up so now the shading is only contained when we render it with in the coloring and the liner which is awesome so now we can work easier now I'm gonna go back to and we're gonna finish everything up and make it look nice [Music] all right so that doesn't look exactly the best I think I messed up on the trainee on the hair I dread to create this highlight effect but that's okay it doesn't look super great but that's basically what you want to do when you add shading in open turns up already since we study the planes of the face and we know I outlined them so we know where they are we have a very nice shading model we know we knew where to put the shadows and it looks good it looks 3d and it looks nice so that's basically how you guys shade like a pro in open toons so thank you guys so much for watching this tutorial I want to come out with more tutorials to definitely leave your extortions in the comments and if you guys want to support the channel and also get some cool benefits check out my patreon page at patreon.com slash noble frugal studio I'll see you guys next time peace [Music] you
