[Music] also today I'm going to make receiving blankets for the baby so we're going to make two out of this fabric two out of this one and two out of this one and it's gonna be my first time to use my new sewing machine that I got at Christmas I'm excited about that so I had two yards of each fabric cut and I'm gonna first cut in half because I want to use one yard for each blanket [Music] now I have to separate one yard long pieces of fabric here then I folded one cut edge up so it's like an appoint right there and like that see if I can show how I want to make a square so I folded it up so that I can cut off this extra piece here and then I'll have a square shaped piece of fabric instead of a rectangle okay so I've got that trimmed off and now I still have it folded in the triangle shape but I'm gonna cut these two corners I'm just gonna kind of make a curved cut to make a rounded corner and now if you wanted it to be perfect you could get a plate or something to use a trace the corner to make a rounded corner but I don't really care but I'm going to save this piece now to be the pattern for my other two corners so at least they all resemble each other [Music] so now I've got a 36 inch square of fabric with rounded corners and I'm going to go ahead and cut the rest of my pieces the same so I'll have six of these when I'm done cutting [Music] the next step is simple but time-consuming so what we're going to do is we're going to take the iron and press up a hem a really small him like quarter an inch or so all the way around each blanket and then once we've done the first one we're going to turn it and iron up a second one so it has a nice finished edge all the way around when we're doing the rounded corners you know you kind of have to bunch it up a little big as you go it's going to start doing that so you just kind of tuck it down and you'll have these little creases all the way around but that's just fine this way it's going to be [Music] this is the first go around and around the corner here I kind of Pat the iron up and down as I go around to keep it as smooth as possible or instead of pushing it because when you push it it makes a little harder to make a gentle turn and here's how it looks after the second time around it's gonna have little bunchy spots like that when you go around the corners but that's fine now that tedious job is done we're going to just stitch along this is the edge here and we're going to just stitch close to this fold right here using a straight stitch I like to use a longer stitch just because I think it looks less or a bit it doesn't really matter [Music] all right so it's all stitched all the way around and that's the end of making a little blanket here's my drawer of diapers wipes and a whole stack of receiving blankets all ready for baby Hannah [Music] you [Music]
