hi my name is kim and in this tutorial i'll show you how i made this present table runner [Music] i've made my table runner seven presents long but you can make yours as long as short as you like so i've used three ten by ten inch squares and four seven by ten inch rectangles to make mine and these are my two inch wide strips you can use as many as you want but i've used about two per present and sometimes just one on a present and make sure they're contrasting fabric as well so they stand out for each strip of fabric you want to fold the long edge in twice and press i did get a bit lazy towards the end and only folded in once and it still worked the same so it's up to you how you want to do it [Music] so once they are pressed pin your strips onto the square in the place you'd like them to be sew down both the long edges pin your next strip on top and repeat [Music] [Music] repeat these same steps with the rest of your squares and rectangles [Music] so this is what you should have when you finish sewing your strips on and now i'll show you how i've made small bows to go on a few of the presents as well so i'm just measuring to see how big i'd like the bows to be so this one is two inches wide by nine inches long and i'm going to follow the same process as the strips where i fold in the edges and press i then sew down the long sides of the strip [Music] next i folded the two ends to meet in the middle and then i just tuck those two ends in [Music] place [Music] to finish off the bow i have a four inch strip which i'm also going to press the long sides in again sew down the long edges [Music] [Music] then i'm going to wrap this shorter strip around the bow i've just made and tuck that in place as well here i'm just going to decide on where i want to position my bow and i think i'm going to go for the [Music] middle [Music] and i'm just going to trim off the excess as well [Music] and then i'm going to sew the bow in place following the tacking lines that i used now you want to go slow with this because you're sewing through quite a thick bit of fabric so just take your [Music] time [Music] if you made this table runner in bright fabric it'd be great for birthday parties it hasn't just got to be for christmas [Music] repeat this process with as many bows as you'd like i've just done three bows for mine to sew them all together take your first present and the second one place the second right sides together on top of the first one i've done mine a bit lower so that my table runner is quite wonky and quirky [Music] sew them together and i've used the edge of my foot as a seam allowance guide so my third one i've placed a little bit higher than the second so i've kind of repeated that process of going higher lower higher [Music] repeat until you have all your presents joined [Music] and this is what you'll have i've placed my table runner on top of the wadding that i'm going to use [Music] and i'm going to cut the wedding to size using the table runner as the template use thermal warding if you're going to be putting hot plates on this table [Music] runner [Music] i then placed my table runner right sides together on the backing fabric that i wanted to use and did the same kind of method where i traced the shape and cut it out [Music] now i'm just going to pin this all in place so i know it's going to line up perfectly and then we're going to sew the entire thing together [Music] do [Music] [Music] sew around the entire outside of the table runner and leave a gap in the middle somewhere for turning [Music] [Music] to make the corners nice and sharp when this is turned out snip the corners of the presents without cutting through the stitches you've just made this gets rid of any bulky fabric also snip into any corners as well and this will help with the bulk too [Music] [Music] and now you can start turning it right side out [Music] make sure to push those corners all the way through [Music] once it is all turned out and you're happy give it a really good press with your iron to make it flat [Music] make sure you've turned the edges of your opening in so that when we top stitch around the edge that can be closed within the top stitching [Music] and now all that's left to do is the top stitch i went around each individual [Music] present that's your table runner complete [Music] please give this video a thumbs up if you liked it i think next i'm going to make some individual placemats and maybe some coasters as well in the same style that look really cute thank you for watching i'll see you in the next video you
