hi it's Dave T here and today we've got a video showing how to set up a caravan with each step shown in as much detail as possible whilst the whole thing condensed down to just under 7 minutes where a particular step is specific to a bayley model of caravan or a particular product I've included an icon just here to indicate that and just for reference today I'll be using the lock and level system for both leveling and fitting out code wheel locks to a twin axle cab M but it can also be used for a single axle van if required so if you're new to caravanning and are keen to know what's involved in setting up a caravan then I hope this will provide some useful hints and tips and if you're an old hand that's done it many times before then hopefully this will be entertaining and you can have a laugh at how we do it as always thanks for watching and if you do enjoy the video then please consider hitting that like button and subscribe to the channel to see other videos like it as always thanks for watching and enjoy the video the first task is to park the van on your selected pitch which is the perfect opportunity to practice reversing end by driving forward to decompress the coupling which makes unhitching easier we use the lock and level system which makes leveling and fitting our locks much easier first make sure the rear wheel lock is aligned then place the lock and level next to the wheels before reversing back and sliding it underneath the van now pull forward again to realign the rear lock precisely check the wheel lock alignment by looking through the hole and once aligned lock the rear wheel lock in place by inserting the bolt tightening with the security socket and then inserting the lock bell before unhitching you should chalk the wheels on the other side of the van especially if on a slope now apply the handbrake and disconnect the breakaway cable and then the 12-volt connector next release the stabilizer handle remove the hitch lock the jockey will and raise the hitch off of the tow bar providing there is no tension between the cart and the van then it should release easily simply by lifting the hitch handle you can now move the car away from the caravan parking it somewhere convenient for any unloading later i refit the hitch lock now before forgetting to inflate the lock and level we need to turn the 12-volt system on and then connect the electric pump and with the yellow valve turned off inflate the rear air bag has the rear bag inflates the front wheel is lifted clear of the ground at which point the pump can be turned off and a handbrake released the front wheel can now be aligned for the lock and the manual recommends that you actually align and fit the lock at this stage I prefer to allow for some suspension sag so that the lock is under less tension if not 15 lakh straight away then open the yellow valve to open air into the front bag and once the lock is aligned fit it if you have not done so already and then leave the yellow valve open we have fitted a single bubble spirit level next to the door and usually raise or lower the jockey wheel to level the van front to back first then you can level it side to side by adding or removing air from the lock and level which is far easier and much more accurate than using ramps once level the steadies can come down always lowering the rear studies first to avoid raising the nose an unlevel in the van if on grass then pads will help to avoid that sinking feeling later you the next task is to fill the water system and start by checking that any drain taps are closed all vans will have a drain for the hot water tank and if you have an onboard cold water tank like this van then that will have a drain tap also you should also check all sink and shower taps are off for the onboard tank on our Bailey van the diverter valve must be switched to fill the on-board tank we always put a couple of sterilizing tablets in our aqua oil water but that's entirely optional now fill the aqua volt at the nearest tap marked as drinking water once you have a full acryl returned to the van and connect the submersible pump to the van and yours may look different but they are generally very similar for Bailey onboard tanks switched a pump motor external and then once the tank is overflowing switch off the pump change the diverter valve back to normal mode and then switch to pump mode to internal the next step for all vans is to open up a cold tap until any trapped air is released and water runs freely then do the same with the hot tap which may take a bit longer as the hot water tank has to fill it's a good time now to place the waste container under the waste water outlets and then remove the toilet cassette and add the recommended quantity of blue or green toilet chemical along with some water now is a good time to so check the flush tank and top up if required with water and pink chemical rather than lasting at night when it runs out connecting the gas is similar on most vans but the location of the gas locker will change depending on the model of the van and the cylinder connection will be different based on the brand of gas you use if your cylinders require a spanner then make sure you have one with you once the gas is connected and switched on then you need to clear the system of air by simply turning on the hob until gas comes through and ignites before connecting mains electrics you should make sure that the main switch is off then connect the cable to the van first and then the hookup point check the see that any breakup switches at the hookup point are on and then leave any excess cable in loose coils under the van so as not to be a trip hazard before returning the main switch back on again final systems may differ slightly but start by turning the fridge on and choosing the correct power supply it's a good idea at this point to raise the TV erial while it's still light enough to see what direction other aerials nearby are pointing and after all that is time for a cup of tea and to put your feet up I hope you've enjoyed this video and if you did then please hit that like button and if you'd like to
