what's up everybody and welcome back to another video I'm excited about this video today I really am because I'm showing you as a wedding photographer how to Second shoot a wedding this is a full behind the scenes the great thing is I had a great lead photographer to work with her name is Dominique from artistic Elegance photography and just let her know you know that that her cousin Max sent you and you know just follow her and all the other great stuff but this is going to be a good one because you get a chance to see all the ins and outs all the different techniques and methods that I use to get the shots that I need as a second shooter you'll also get a chance to see what lenses I use so you know it should be it should be fun I love the second shoot I don't get a lot of opportunities to Second shoot because I mean people just don't ask me but when they do and I'm available let's do it let's get it in and so grab a seat grab a seat make sure you get you some popcorn and pour you a glass of Cabernet because it's gonna be a good one I'm excited to bring you this video today this is how to Second shoot a wedding and I'm pretty much going to give you all the ins and outs of this BTS um so sit on top of my camera rock out with me for a little bit let's get into it um usually as the second shooter you come in you try to arrange the details sometimes Grooms don't know where where things are you got to kind of help help them through the process as you can see I'm using this natural light from this window uh to set up this flat lay um that's not really that flat because I'm using shoes and all this other things all these other things so there's no real invitation but I want to arrange these items these details in a way that looks somewhat aesthetically pleasing um flat lays are not my strongest suit but I do have a good time when I mix and match things a little bit as you can see this shot here very clean um the main shooter who I'll get into in a moment edited these shots and selected these shots I took out some of the items for this for this shot here um because I wanted something just a little bit more clean and so that's that's the image um again just trying to kind of get as many options as possible one of the things you want to do as a second shooter is provide the main shooter options so I got this shot of the shoes with the watch and as you saw prior to this shot I kind of removed some of the items because I want them to have options to choose from when adding to the gallery so I did put the suit jacket on top of this lamp right here I really like to be creative with my shots and to try to give as many different angles lots of Versatility I think that's the ongoing theme of being a second shooter you're looking for different angles and you want the the main shooter to have a lot of options and that's what I'm doing here getting close-ups getting horizontals getting verticals getting wides I am trying to give them so many and my goal is for them to be like oh man I don't even know which one to choose because they all so good like that's the goal um that I have as I go into um second shooting right here you can see that I hung the suit jacket up uh and I'm really using this natural light this sunlight from the window I had to move the blinds you have to really move things a lot of times to get the shots that you want don't just expect other shot to just come to you um and as you can see I really like how that how that came out and um these were really clean and these were added to the gallery uh for the bride and groom moving on with details this was a gift that the groom was giving his groomsmen and you have to ask for these items sometimes couples don't think about them but you want to capture everything because you don't know that hey this gift could have been made by a family member or something or you know it could is just a sentimental value of things the key thing is really asking the groom like what are all the things you want photograph do you have any gifts that you're going to give the groomsmen and this was one of them and I just tried to capture every single thing that could potentially need to be photographed because sometimes Grooms aren't fully aware so it is up to you as the photographer to pretty much ask those questions you know do you have any gifts that you want to be photographed that you're going to be giving your groomsmen do you have any jewelry just to make sure that you cover all of your bases and here you can see just some shots that I got of the groom getting ready I'm using the the window as my main source of light this these are all natural light photos and um yeah things things came out really clean um the editor again the photographer uh did a good job at how she how she edited these but using the groom and putting him up against the window because that's the area that I have to to work with the rest of the room was in chaos it was small lots of people so I'm just getting all of the details and that's really big one of your main jobs is a second shooter for the first part of the day is to try to match the quality of photos that the bride is getting from the main shooter and now we move along to the first look and the lead shooter her name is Dominique her photography company is Artistic Elegance we do a lot of work together whether she's second shooting for me I second shoot for her so we pretty much know each other's style which is very similar some differences but for the most part we understand each other and she pretty much stationed me right here and as the bride is getting ready she's going to walk past me Dominique right now is getting shots of the groom and with the bride in the background as you can see here and my job is really to get the groom's reaction so I'm kind of staying back a little bit so that Dominique can get those shots of the Bride walking up and I'm on a 7200 so I don't have to get that close but as soon as the groom turns around it's my job to get his expression this is the money shot this is important I'm zoomed in at 200 and this was the shot I was able to capture now it's a great shot I love it and the shot that Dominique also captured pretty much matches it and this is what you want to do as a Duo and as the second shooter it's important for me to get the shot that I get and now I'm just shooting away I'm getting details I'm getting hands holding I'm getting reactions and smiles and all of those things so these are the type of shots um as a second shooter that you get and these shots right here of the Bride were Dominique shots so as you can see the quality the clarity everything pretty much is in sync with each other and that's really important during the first look now the bride and groom is walking out the hotel I'm getting these shots and these are just pretty much candid like we're just kind of flowing I got a shot of them posed up right there and now we transition to an important part which is the groom shots as a second shooter I like to get clean shots um I'm on a 70 to 200 steel zoomed in in Chicago beautiful day this is all natural light you know so I'm not doing too much uh and then I started to get shots of the groom with his his groomsmen and here we go ready one two three and here we go one two three and smiling um and I really like how Dominique edited these again our styles are very complementary uh so I pretty much know how to shoot for what she wants and that's really important as a second shooter you want to make sure that your settings and your white balance and all those things are up to par for what the lead shooter wants I'll be looking back and forth at each other dapping each other up acknowledging each other acknowledging the groom it's a great moment and just make sure you walk slow and y'all can start now I'm just having them walk towards me and I'm kind of directing them to look back and forth at each other and just laugh Dominique did a good job kind of making this look very nostalgic very classic with the uh black and white that she used um and then on the flip side I got some other shots which um you know kind of creative kind of cool in the groom and a groomsmen really had a good time and really loved these photos so uh now um things kind of vary here Dominique is getting shots of the wedding party there's a couple things I could do I could be at the cocktail hour getting shots where I can just be helping and assisting and that's pretty much what I was doing this is the shot that she got I love how it came out um and you know pretty good Dominique is dope she's a really great photographer I'll put her information back on the screen right here so you can follow her um but right here she got a shot on the left I got that shot on the right you really want to make sure that you are complimenting your lead shooter if they are tight or semi-wide then I'm gonna be um semi-wide or all the way wide Ultra wide and that's pretty much what we do she didn't really have to tell me I kind of just looked over I saw what Lynn she was on and I decided to switch mine up and these are some photos that Dominique had an opportunity to capture you know as she's the lead photographer is her job is her responsibility to get the newlyweds portraits and again being complementary I made sure that I was wide getting that shot and so she was able to make it uh into a black and white um and so that's that's the benefit of kind of knowing your shooter um knowing what lens they have and if you should switch things up because you never really want to be shoulder to shoulder with the same focal length and you know it's just about always understanding uh where the lead shooter is at all times now one of the things I want to know is that we started the ceremony I did not get a chance to start my GoPro that was getting my behind the scenes but as you can see here we are back in Action uh these were some shots that Dominique and I captured Dominique's on the left I'm on the right um you know she's vertical I'm horizontal I just kind of glance over and see how she's shooting and I just do the opposite um some other shots is really key as a second shooter you're looking at the first roll second row and you're getting the family shots as you can see here I wanted to make sure that I captured um this I believe this is a very important person to this couple uh who I believe may not have been alive to witness this Union the first two rows are parents their grandparents they're the closest people to the bride and groom so I wanted to make sure that I highlight that there is someone that is crying and I did witness that um fortunately for me Dominique got that shot as well as I um but this was the shot that she submitted to the gallery which was a little better than the one that I had captured so there you have it um but I'm moving around you don't want to be stationary uh if that's not what the SEC the first shooter wants you to do and so we move we move back and forth we kind of marry each other I'm getting different shots she's getting different shots a high level of situational awareness just always being mindful that tears are happening Smiles are happening so you're getting the bride and groom you're getting guests you're pretty much just shooting away um again I'm on a 70 to 200 so I don't have to really be too much of a distraction Dominique's on the 24 to 70 so she has to move just a little bit more but her shots are primary shots my shots are more creative again because I'm on the 7200 it's more of a specialty lens it's getting a little bit of depth of field portrait shots I love this shot here of the Bride as she's giving her vows and she starts to kind of tear up to me like that's a dream come true for a lead shooter that the second shooter was able to capture something like this so Dominique you're welcome um you're welcome but um so one of the key things you want to keep in mind doing a ceremony is that you want to make sure that you mirror the photographer that you're not shoulder to shoulder with the lead photographer I'm very keen to that and I'm always looking and seeing what my least shooter is doing when i'm second shooting Dominique here is shooting from a low angle for the first kiss so I'm gonna stay standing up and behind her again we are already at different focal lengths so as shots going to come out differently and I really do love the variations that we were able to capture she has the full body and I have the horizontal that she decided to make as a black and white um you are primarily the backup so you know you're there so that if she does not get it you get it so it's very important for you to get it um but don't put too much stress on yourself um because that's why you have two photographers as we're backing up here it's very important that we are still shooting and capturing these moments Dominique and I love to do this thing where we have the bride and groom kiss towards the almost the end of the the aisle and that way she's going to get a nice wide shot everyone's reaction um and she did a great job and what I'm doing is I'm just getting a backup of that I'm not like if she missed the shot over it's blurry then she'll have mine but primarily her shots are gonna be good when it comes to that now we're just going to transition to the reception I didn't get too much uh video for this but here are the photos for the reception it's just very important that you understand what your lead photographer is expecting of you uh Dominique and I work very well together and she pretty much allows me to kind of free roam during the reception my main job for the most part is to capture a lot of candid moments uh different angles if she's up I'm down if she's down I'm up if she's left them right and that's pretty much how we flow I am always kind of checking to see what focal length she's on and these are just some of the shots that I was able to capture the most important thing is making sure that your settings are complementary to your lead photographer here's Two Shots two photos two photos and they look very identical but believe it or not Dominique took one and I took the other but this is kind of what you want a very very similar um aesthetic the images look like they were taken from the same camera by the same person but they were taken with different cameras same camera brand but I know how she shoots she knows how I shoot if she's second shooting for me but this is kind of what you want you want to be in a situation where the lead shooter can look at images and be like wait did I did I take that or did they I don't know hmm I don't know oh okay wait oh they took it oh well no good that's kind of what you that's kind of what you want all these images I'm just kind of going around I'm asking if I could take photos I'm capturing moments you have to have a high situational awareness and that just that alert to know that things are happening in front of you behind you on the side of you you're not going to get everything but you try to get as much as you can it wasn't too much space for us to work with so we are kind of shoulder to shoulder but the shots came out good shots came out good I was happy to know that I got you know far more than enough for her to to pretty much work with and that's that's really all you can ask for I stayed on the 6 seen a 35 and a 7200 for the most part of this day the groom shots that were taken inside of the hotel room were all 24 to 70. I did not shoot Prime which is very surprising for me but I love how things came out love how things came out I love these last set of photos so don't forget if you like the video go ahead and like the video uh don't forget to sub and show some love make sure to follow Dominique um artistic Elegance on Instagram and let her know that her cousin sent you uh so definitely show her some love and I got some got some treats coming for y'all these next set of videos so you know make sure you are tuned in and you are locked in and until next time I'll catch you all on the next video
