hi guys welcome to the channel take and make in this episode i'm going to restore this old and rusty axe i'm not sure how old is it but seems pretty old in this project i ain't gonna use any of power tools it's all gonna be hand work except maybe of this power supply to help us remove the rust with electrolysis but other than that it's gonna be pretty simple restoration where we're gonna use good old files and sandpaper let's get started all right guys we removed the handle and now we're gonna clean all the rust with electrolysis reaction been running about an hour and i think that most of the rust is gone by now so we're gonna disconnect everything and put our eggs in container with warm water and wash everything with wire brush all the rust is gone look at this guys only one hour cleaning it with electrolysis and another 10 minutes spent with wire brush amazing uh screen [Applause] so so uh i reshape the x back to its geometry took me quite a while to do it just with files remember in the beginning i told you it's gonna be simple restoration i lied i mean it is simple for the process but it ain't easy i spent lots of hours doing that now we're gonna proceed to sandpaper [Music] [Music] so i went with 240 grit and look at this it may look quick on video but i spent quite a few hours sending just one side now to do another side [Music] so [Music] okay guys i'm done with sanding and that's how it looks after 400 grit take a look yourself i'm very happy with the end result so in the next step and we're gonna etch it in a hot vinegar okay so i boiled some vinegar and now we're gonna put our axe head into that solution it's been etching for about 15 minutes and now we're gonna take it out and wash it carefully with scotch brite to remove that black film so etching could go deeper so we cleaned a little bit of that black film i'm gonna put it back in the vinegar to edge more it's been etching for about one hour now i'm gonna take it out wash it again reheat my vinegar and soak it for another hour i'm going to clean it with a fine steel wool this time so it's been etching for two and a half hours let's give it a final wash and see how it looks like so this is how it looks now nice gray color to it i love this patina etching is done time to put this head on the handle [Applause] [Laughter] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] there you go guys the restoration is complete i'm pretty happy with uh this axe it turned out pretty cool took a lot of time and sweat but hard work pays off the only thing i want to say that those two metal wedges they didn't work as planned but not a big deal overall looks pretty cool tell me what you guys think about this restoration in a comment section down below please like share and subscribe thank you for watching and i will see you in next one bye now [Applause] [Music] you
