Hello! This is Dustin with Home Mender and today we are going to be replacing a storm door mortise latch and lock set. This one's lived it's life. It's got to be changed. I'm gonna show you how. Let's get to it. Now we definitely want to make sure we buy the right one. This one's got a mortise set inside the door right here. So we're going to go ahead and pull some screws and get this handle off. Allen key. Handle comes off. Screws. and it's raining parts. Next we take our new mortise labeled "up". Slide that in. Make sure you put your tabby things towards the door. Secure with tiny screws. No over tighten. Next we take our lock, key hole to the outside, slides in the bottom slot there. Post. My post sticks out a little far to get the handle on. It comes with these little pre-measured notches. I'm gonna need to clip mine off. I'm going to use the second one. Thumb latch slides on. Go ahead and screw those down. Appropriate length screw. Looking good. Next we take our plastic gaskets. Put those around the handles. Secure the handles with an Allen wrench. Extra snug. Now we're going to set the latch. I shut my door. I found out that my new latch hits right where the top of this screw is. That's where I'm going to want the opening for my strike side. New plate. Old plate comes off. Now we see the new catch falls right there at that screw line. I'm gonna go ahead and secure my bracket where I think it's gonna go. There is a top and bottom to these. I'm using some self-tappers to secure them. So I tried my new latch. It works awesome however because it's a different frame style, the existing metal frame is not letting my slide bolt go all the way over. So I'm going to use a multi-tool and cut out the obstruction. You can also take the handle off a hacksaw, wrap it in a cloth and cut it that way. Now that I got the lines marked, I'm going to remove the catch and cut out the rest. Now, we use our factory screws to put the catch on. Working awesome. So that's it. Super easy! We just replaced a mortise style lock on a storm door. Took us about 20 minutes because we're awesome so for Home Mender Inc , this is Dustin. I hope you learned something today and if you did don't forget to click subscribe. Thanks for watching.
