How to Open a UPVC Window When the Handle Mechanism Has Failed

[Music] in this video i'm going to show you how you can open a window when the window handle has failed so normally to open a upvc window you just push the button and turn the handle to open but about a week ago i noticed this small window i kept pushing the button in even when it's unlocked and the handle doesn't go anywhere it just stays in a lock position even though it's not you can see i can push the thing down but this does not open at all so the actual mechanism in the handle has failed nothing to do with the window the window locks are completely fine it's the actual handle mechanism which has failed so it's actually quite a simple way to open this window or close it if it isn't closing so what you need is a thin piece of plastic ideally something like a credit card or a driver license and so on i've had to put some tape on this to cover my details up but just a thin piece of plastic you can even use a paint scraper or something like that idd plastic because the plastic won't damage the actual paint so i just give you a kind of look at the mechanism so once you push the button in i hope you can see this you can see there's a little catch here a little plastic catch or metal catch so you can see once i push the button this goes in and out which enables you to open and shut the window so if i push the button that goes in and out so you can see that this particular catch is slightly angled so it's thicker than the bottom and thinner towards the top so what you need to do is to get your thin piece of plastic and obviously all windows will vary but in my case i have to stick that thin piece of plastic in the small gap right at the top so i'll do on this one up here which doesn't open so the thinnest piece is right by here if i put it by here nothing happens i still can't open it so nothing will happen if i put the the cad in here so i id with the corner put it right up towards the top and then just kind of kind of push it in and then that's pushed in you can see that that opens so you can see the mechanism on this one once i push the button nothing's happening so the mechanism on this particular handle is completely broken so the only way to fix this is either to replace it or if you can open it up but normally you'd have to replace these so just remember have a look at the mechanism on on the handle if it is angled like mine make sure you put the card or the thin piece of plastic towards the top and not on the thick end so i'll just show you again so you can see that's locked that doesn't open but i put the card right here and just push it in like that it opens so that's how you can open a window or close a window if the handle mechanism has failed thanks for watching [Laughter] so [Music] you
