welcome back to the number one home improvement youtube channel in the entire world today I'm going to save your life this is a very very dangerous but basic home improvement project it's also could be considered a home maintenance project just improvement because you are improving your garage door so this is an extreme case an extreme dangerous case I'm going to give you a close-up here just a second of what that danger is but first take note that this is a heavy garage door this is not one of those aluminum real lightweight garage doors this is a two-car garage with one door very heavy the rollers these rollers here half of them are like what I mean worn out and shot I mean there seems all nice and quiet at first [Music] Oh things are starting to get a little crazy now alright wasn't quite as dramatic as I thought but if you can see up close that wheel and bearing have come completely off the shaft this one is worn out and that one there is canted and worn out off to get a better look that one may also need replacing that is in danger that's the worst one and what can happen is that they can completely come out of the track and fall on you can see some of the metal shavings there now if you have kind of a standard garage door similar to this you can go straight to your home center you know the ones and get these right off the shelf and they should pop right in now there's two acceptable methods to do this one is you get a pair of your slip joint pliers and you bend this track you just crank on it bend it and you have to raise the door up and pop the wheel out I don't like doing it that way so what I'm gonna do is remove the hinge take it out put the new wheel in to reinstall the hinge this is like I said earlier a wood door and they have bolts that hold this on if you have an aluminum door you're probably gonna have some self-tapping screws so we've got four bolts so the tool I'm going to be using is an impact I've got this attachment on here so that I can put sockets on this is a quarter-inch drive this is a deep socket this one happens to be 11 millimeters this allows you to use your basic home socket set with your impact gun now before I go too far if you need to replace the wheel on the bottom you're not gonna want to do this not this method I'll talk about how in just a second and you can see this has been riding on the rail quite a bit wearing out no bearings in this wheel at all so you're gonna pull out the old what's left of the old wheel and put in the new wheel just like that wheel in there this is the most difficult one because I have this rail to deal with and put this clamping piece on there close up up that clamp this squishes it down still rolls after some closer inspection I can tell this top one is also need of being replaced this top one comes off a little different you can see how it's just held on with one nut so I'm going to take this nut off and this whole top plate with the wheel should come off you want to take note of where this is clamped down or bolted down this whole slot makes this adjustable and again you can see how worn out this one is some of the bearings are actually missing on this one oh geez that was another one ready to go this one just popped out you can see the steel bearings now for the bottom one this is the one that can kill you so this big spring up here is in tension made up there and it's trying to lift the door up it's helping the garage door opener like this hat you like this shirt link in the description where you can get yourself this awesome super secret society hat and this secret society t-shirt okay see this cable here that's that's the death cable right there and that comes down yeah I like still right there and where it hooks in it hooks in right back in there to the bracket that the wheel is on what we need to do is raise the door that is smooth buttery smooth so rate there is the cable and I do apologize that there's not a very better camera angle so what I'm gonna do is just grab the door with my hand and push it up an inch or two and you'll see you'll see that that cable gets slacked so there's hardly any tension on it right up there you can see how the cable is wrapped around the pulley oh geez and right there you should be able to see where it's attached now where were you at here so this I took loose back this way just took a couple out so gave me a little bit more room to work with oops there's one nut still holding this on and I'm gonna pull that nut off I'm gonna manipulate this up and out drop out the wheel put the new wheel in put it back in Oh push it out all right before I put it down I did check make sure the cables still perfectly on the pulley up there and we place all of them yes we replaced all of them on this side yeah there there you go that's how to replace your garage door rollers and not get maimed dismembered or die please subscribe to my youtube channel hit the bell like let you know when a new home
