my air vent brand two-speed attic ventilator fan motor has failed in the fall I had the roof replaced on my house and on the first hot spring day I noticed that the fan was not running from the Attic I didn't see any visual damage I pulled the fan motor and controller from the housing so that I could troubleshoot it I'll make an additional video showing how that troubleshooting was done before doing any work turn off power you should find a splice box next to the controller and inside you'll find a hot and a neutral connection disconnect the controller and likely there'll be a couple of wood screws that are holding the controller in place remove those doing a quick search I didn't easily find a replacement motor the motors that were available were almost as expensive as buying a whole new unit since their event hasn't changed the housing design I was able to pull the motor and controller out of this new unit and install it into my existing unit there are three brackets that hold the motor in place remove these three screws with a 3/8 inch ratchet or wrench there are three practical ways to get the fan blades past the brackets if there's easy access to the roof one of the brackets can be removed by taking out this screw you'll need a 3/8 inch wrench you can bend the brackets back and wiggle the fan blade past them if you don't have a helper to hold the brackets back you can cut a piece of wood around four and a half inches wedge one of the brackets back then wiggle the fan through holding the other two brackets back you may be able to get this 5/32 set screw loosened and remove the fan blade this is quite rusted I would spray a little penetrating oil on it and wait and then try to loosen it notice that there's raised edges on the brackets the bottom edge of the motor housing rests on top of those indentations after installing the three screws into the brackets ensure that the motor is sitting evenly in the brackets mount the new controller reconnect the hot and neutral wires restore power and test your work I hope you found this video helpful a thumbs up is always appreciated click on the channel named know-how now to find other videos and thanks for watching
