yes sir what is bought on YouTube it is your boy Denali aka Don squally and today we are back with another little DIY on how to repair curb rash wheels with a rattle can we are going to be repairing a very nasty set of Acura CL type s wheels now these things came off of my oh one type s that I bought about a month ago now and one thing that I really hated about them is they're just curb rash the spokes actually stick out a little farther than the tire so if you're not careful you are gonna damage these wheels again but this is the way that I got them as you can see very nasty very ugly so what I'm gonna do today is sand down all of the corrosion all of the just curb rash that's there we're gonna prep them and then we are going to paint this set of wheels with a rattle can which I know a couple of my buddies are probably gonna be against but this is basically the cheapest easiest DIY way to repair a set of wheels so with that being said I'm going to get one of these wheels up on the table get out my palm sander I'm going to show you guys the process now I've done a set of wheels before my 350z wheels when I painted them gold I did a little how-to but back then I was kind of like just the beginner when it came to painting wheels now I like to think I have a few more tricks up my sleeves so yeah with that being said men we're gonna get right into it alright he's so first thing that I'm gonna do is use my black & decker palm sander here now obviously it doesn't matter what brand you have but these definitely help if you're doing this by hand probably gonna take a while popped out the center cap here now what I'm gonna do is just go over all of these really rough areas now this looks like it's actually a clear coat that's over top of this wheel so what I'm gonna do is just sand down all of this ugliness right here all in here and then we're gonna do a light scuff over the entire wheel now this is really the most time-consuming part about painting anything is the prep work the paint is really easy doesn't take that much time at all but you got to make sure that you prep your surface properly for the paint to adhere and halfway-decent so I'm gonna start this process now like I say probably the longest process so this is gonna take me a while but we're gonna get right into it [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now this right here is a 400 grit sanding disk what I might do is throw on something a little more coarse maybe like a 120 or a 200 just to knock down some of this stuff a little bit quicker and then what you want to do is use basically the highest grit that you can find for me in my store for this palm sander at Canadian Tire is going to be the 400 and you want to have this as smooth as possible before you go to paint so I might switch up this disc right now knock this down a little quicker and then we're gonna be able to go over it with the 400 and make it look pretty before we team [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right so as you can see I knocked down all of the flaking paint and the heavy oxidation or the corrosion that was on these wheels with the I ended up using a sixty grit which is a little more coarse than I would have liked but it's all that I have sitting in the garage and didn't really feel like going to the store so what I'm gonna do is grab the other three wheels do the exact same thing with the sixty grit get all that heavy corrosion knocked down and then we're gonna come back with a 400 I'm gonna show you guys that process once we get there all righty so knocked all of the heavy corrosion down with the sixty grit it's nice and smooth now but you can see a little bit of swirls I don't know if it's picking it up on the camera but there's just a few swirls from sanding with such a heavy grit so what I'm gonna do now is switch to a lighter grit maybe a 140 200 depending on what I have here give these wheels a nice once-over with that and then I'm gonna get a just some sandpaper and sand all the little crevices that I couldn't get to you know with the power sander I'm gonna get those by hand and give these a good blow with some air wipe them down with some acetone we should be ready to drop some paint all righty so just finish knocking this down with a 100 grit that's all that I had here so now what I'm gonna do is just take one of these pieces and get into all the little crevices that I can't reach with the power sander inside here in here basically just these lips that go along this the spokes here and once I'm done this we should be ready to clean these up and get ready for paint [Music] all righty so I blew everything up with some compressed air now I'm just gonna use a little bit of acetone and a rag to get all the grease and contaminants off of the wheels before we go ahead and spray them I also got the heater I just turned the heater off but I'm gonna turn that on get everything up to temperature in the garage because it is a little chilly still winter time here actually the first day of spring was yesterday when it's snowing outside so welcome to Canada I'm gonna go ahead clean these wheels I'm then I'm gonna show you guys exactly what's left before we can start spraying all righty so now that our wheels are all cleaned up I'm just gonna use some painters tape here go ahead and tape off our valve stems so we don't paint those and then I'm gonna go ahead and use some a deck of cards here just make my way around the wheel you guys have probably seen this process a few times so I'm just gonna go ahead tape off the wheel here with these cards I guess it's not really taping and then we should be just about ready to paint alrighty so I have the wheels all carted up valve stems taped on now what I'm gonna do is hit it with about two coats of this rust-oleum painters touch gray primer now I'm a big fan of the painters touch I've been using this for a while my wheels which are painted in white we're done in these my girlfriend's wheels which I did the gunmetal gray also painted in this stuff so we're gonna hit it with a couple of coats of primer and I like to use a primer that's close to the finishing color that I'm gonna be using and that is gonna be this rust-oleum painters touch metallic aluminum and I decided to go with the metallic aluminum because I'm probably gonna put the Maxima wheels on the CL so I figured that I probably get the most money back if I were to finish them in the OEM color so this stuff right here is what I would recommend two times coverage and like I say I've used this quite a bit in the past and it definitely holds up for what I'm gonna be using it for so first things first we're gonna throw on some primer I'm gonna let the garage heat up just a little bit I had to go grab some more propane for my heater I'm gonna put these in front of the heater let them heat up as well then we're gonna start with the primer and finish with the metallic aluminum so I'm pretty stoked to get this project finished man so I'm going to turn on the heater we're gonna get at all right code number one of the primer is on gonna let that dry for a bit and hit it with number two all righty coat number ones pretty much dry I'm gonna hit it with coat number two right now alrighty so primer is dry I'm gonna go over it with three really light coats of this metallic aluminum you don't want to go too thick with this stuff you don't want any runs in your paint so alright so first coat is on I'm gonna turn the heater back on let these things cure I don't know maybe 10-15 minutes before I you know in between coats before I put the second and third on here but that definitely made these things look ten times better man alrighty about to throw on coat number two here gonna put it on a little heavier than number one alright Kota number two's on I'm gonna run the heater let these dry for another 10-15 I'm going to throw on coat number three alright so about to throw on my finishing coat here real quick then I'm going to let these dry for about in an hour come back pull the cards and the tape throw on the center caps and show you guys finished product [Music] all righty so I let these dry for about a half an hour peeled off the tape and the cards threw back in the center caps and this is the final product now one thing that I'm looking at is those center caps quite a bit more yellow than the color here so I'm thinking I probably should have taken those off painted them and then maybe got some Acuras stickers but nonetheless these things look like ten times better than they were this color is actually a lot nicer than I thought it was going to be not as Glaus as I had wanted it but to be honest it has a nice Sheen nice metallic sheen to it so this is gonna be actually pretty much perfect now it was pretty cold today so I was a little bit worried that the heater wasn't really gonna do enough to keep these wheels warm and have the paint cure properly but as you can see I mean they're ten times better than they were there are a few imperfections where I didn't sand down enough of the pits and stuff like that but nonetheless as you can see they look way better than they did compared to that we are definitely looking super crispy right now but what I'm thinking we are gonna do is probably put an end to this video I can't lie I'm actually pretty pumped at how these turned out now these wheels obviously really ugly when we started with them and if you were to ask me now I'd say that's pretty damn good man so all in all took me about three four hours that's with sanding between coats painting everything like that use one can of primer still got a bit of that left and one can of the metallic aluminum which I do still have a little bit left as well so if these things need a touch-up that's not going to be a problem but if you guys did enjoy this style of video definitely don't forget to smash that like button if you guys are not subscribed yet definitely do so this is just a little sample of some of the things that we do here on the channel and I'm thinking that's probably gonna be it for today's video man I'm a little bit tired gonna go inside grab myself a bite to eat have a quick shower and then i'ma just chill out for the rest of the day man I'm gonna let these cure for a couple of days before I end up putting them on the car since I am still looking for some tires for the Maxima wheels and then we're gonna go ahead probably spray those up white because I do like the way that the white wheels looked with the blue and the gold but as always I am your boy Denali aka Don squally and with that being said we're gonna catch all mofos at the next one man please
