[Music] hey guys this is Jim with redo banshee parts and accessories and today I'm gonna show you a hack on how to remove the factory Springs off of your shocks front and rear you can do either one but the front ones are the biggest nightmare cuz you there's not special tools and they're hard to get in and anyways I've got a hack that's gonna blow your socks off okay and you can do it for under ten bucks anybody can do it from home you don't have to send the shocks off you just do it right in your own garage so check this out here's what we're gonna do we're gonna we're gonna take these shocks Springs right off here and all you need is just a couple of tools like you see here on this bench and you can do it it's awesome so the first thing you want to do go get you a set of these cheap tie-down straps the ratchet straps you can get them from Home Depot Lowe's Harbor Freight whatever buy the cheap ones the thin ones is the ones you want don't buy thick ones or they won't fit inside here you want these these thin orange ones okay when you get these in the package you're gonna get you're gonna get them you're gonna get the ratchet buckle and then there's gonna be a separate piece that has a hook on it right so what you want to do is you want to cut you wanna you want to cut those off cut it off of the ratchet one and then you're gonna want to cut the hook off the separate one and then you're gonna just tie it just like this okay cut the hook off and just tie it no I got way too much slack here okay you really only need two to three feet something like that I got way too much here but you're gonna see what's going on and then this end guys this is the factory edge that they give you that's that's been melted so it's so it's you know not frayed or anything like that alright so this is how you do it and you're gonna get two of them right so just cut that hook off tie it right on to your ratchet strap and then this is gonna go ahead and ratchet back to itself I'll show you here in a minute okay so come on check this out here's what we're gonna do it so what you're gonna do you're gonna take this strap alright you guys gonna love this you're gonna feed it through with a very the very top where that where the springs get real close together as high up as you can get it you want as much of this shock spring to compress as possible right it's gonna make it easier just gonna feed it through like this alright and when it gets down to here you got to get it gonna get it in here so I take my little little handy dandy screwdriver you're just gonna feed it now sometimes it's a little tight on one side let me have to go over here feed it through all right all the way down close to the bottom you know one or two Springs off and then once it's in there you can kind of work it a little bit you're gonna pull it all the way through like so make sure it stays flat as you can see okay and then what you're gonna do you're just gonna feed this back through your ratchet okay and then back out the back can you guys see how I did that I fed it through and then I went around and I fed it back through so that it does this number right here okay so you can pull it okay we're just gonna set that there for now and then I take you want to protect your Springs so you're gonna take you're gonna put these back on the exact same way that you take them off and I'll show you so you're gonna tuck this in here so you don't mess up your Springs this is your gonna powder coat them or whatnot okay and then you're just gonna take this here you're just gonna apply a little pressure now you gotta do both sides okay so it pulls the spring down evenly so let's do the other side now go way up here I'm gonna feed it now I didn't invent this hack guys I actually learned this from a friend of mine named Paxton who has the KTM shop down in Springfield Oregon so if you guys ever want anybody to work on your KTM if you're from Oregon call up Paxton down at gray area a KTM those guys are awesome little little plug there for Paxton okay so we're gonna feed it through again and we're gonna feed it back through here so we can Ratchet it down alright stick our rag in here so we don't mess up the spring okay and you want you want out when you do your ratchets you want to start from from way up here right because as they ratchet they're gonna move down the spring okay so you want to start way up here okay okay so this one okay so what we're gonna do we're just gonna ratchet these down evenly and you're gonna see there's gonna be a space here that's up near the top of the shop and then I'll show you what to do okay so let's just Ratchet it down you can see it's starting to start to pull it hold you this side and you don't have to go a lot guys you just have to expose this this is a nut do you see how it's flat on that edge and it's flat on that edge that's how you can get your your crescent wrench in there okay so this is all you just got to have it down enough to where you can expose that guy so what we're gonna do once that's exposed okay I'm just gonna put that on there and then take a screwdriver you're just gonna separate these these are usually not very hard to do if I'm doing it there we go I got a tough I got to loosen it not tighten it rookie okay once it's loose okay we can just twist this top right off now if these have never been apart before there's gonna be a little bit of Loctite on there I usually do this in a vise guys so but I didn't want to do it over by my by my bench so usually do this in a vise this is a little bit harder than it should be because there's a little bit of Loctite on these I don't put them together with Loctite usually it's not this hardly they just spin right off but they'll come off here in a sec almost off see all the all the Loctite that's coming out of here thanks Marty okay we are good okay now someone used a lot of Loctite on that bad boy usually they just spin right off a lot easier like that like I said okay so now we're gonna do guys we're just gonna we're gonna pull this right off and there you go your shock is apart now you just take this be very careful don't get your thumbs in here all right just release your just release them okay and then you're gonna go ahead and pull this out and you're gonna take him apart okay now that's how you do it then you can send your spring off and get a powder coated you get a chrome you can do whatever now when you're going to put this back together okay let's do a let's show you how to put it back together it's just the reverse of that okay very simple very straightforward what I like to do guys when I'm going to put these back together now you always want to make sure you see all these coils there there you have a different spring rate right they've got a shorter spring rate up here just goes to the top just slide it on carefully so let's pretend this is a new powder coated spring we're gonna slide it on carefully okay and then I like to just kind of use my weight and just push it down to where I can get a couple threads here okay so I can twist it on by hand once I can twist it on by hand then now I can slip my tools back in here right I can put these down in here I can ratchet them back up I tighten them down right and then once I get there once I get them tightened down I can use my my crescent wrench and this guy here screwdriver to just tighten it up they don't have to be very tight the spring holds pressure on them okay just tighten them up to where they're just hand tight okay and then release you're good to go that is my hack for the day all right so if you've got any questions you can hit us up at WWE do - parts comm or you can give us a call five four one four one nine six zero five four I hope you guys enjoyed this I hope it's an awesome easy cheap hack on how to do your front shocks this also does work the same on the rear shock too so you could try it on that as well take care see you on the next video [Music] you [Music]
