[Music] [Music] hey everyone so this is the kit and paint that I have bought to restore the old clawfoot bathtub that I have so this here is an etching cream this will etch the original surface to make the paint here adhere to it better this is for the outside of the tub so this specifically the hammered look gives it sort of that distressed look and I chose the color copper but this is a little more of the challenging process in terms of restoring the tub so I'm going to walk you through a so here is the old tub that we're going to restore so the outside here will get painted with that copper paint like I mentioned inside here it's a little bit bright out so it's kind of hard to see but this all needs to be cleaned up first of all anything metal like the drain there I'm going to have to remove and then this is the surface that we're going to start etching so we can repaint it just something else that I do want to mention as well because I do have the opportunity to do this outside before moving it inside it's nice that were already working in a ventilated area if you are planning on restoring your tub and it's already in your bathroom just make sure that the area is well ventilated so you can now see that I've got everything removed from inside here anything metal needs to be removed this one was super rusted so it was super handy that I had this tool I bought it years ago I used it once to replace drain in my old house and I never thought I'd use again but it did come in handy needed I wouldn't have been able to get that one off otherwise so that has been removed the tap has been removed piping in the back has been removed and now I'm going to clean everything up back here I'll show you this as well the reason it's called a clawfoot tub is because you can actually see the claw design there which is pretty cool but I am going to be removing these feet so reason for that two reasons actually one the this is a very old heavy heavy heavy tub and there's not a lot of surface area here this I'm afraid with the weight of the tub and the water will put in dents in my floor but the other thing more importantly the drain here we're not going to be draining the water through the floor it's going to be going out through the year wall and I think in order to get enough clearance down here I'm gonna put these up on blocks okay so now I'm going to use the etching cream and basically you just brush this stuff on with a paintbrush to the surface that you want to etch you don't need to use this etching cream but if you don't then you need the sand and that to me just sounded like a heck of a lot of work so for the you know $37 this cost you literally brush this on you let it sit for five minutes you wash it off to me that sounded like a much better idea than spending the entire day sanding this thing I know it's pretty bright out here it's difficult to see but this basically is you know it's this goopy stuff it's just a gel or a cream and literally just brushing it on letting it sit for four or five minutes and then we wash it off and this stuff is extremely corrosive so do not get it on your skin rinsed all of the cream off he took a lot of water and sort of wiping it with cloths because it was on very thick and now I just give it a little wipe down with a towel and I'm just gonna make sure it's completely dry before I apply the pee and next I am putting on the epoxy acrylic formula so this comes with these two little tins basically a Part A and B that you mix together and then you literally paint it on so that is the next step and I think once I've got that done then I'm just going to go right ahead and spray this on the outside so we can all dry together at the same time here is after the first coat and there are still a few streaks so I'm going to do the second coat we moved it inside to do the second coat so bugs don't get stuck to it I've done two coats with the copper paint on this side and again there's just still a few streaks so I may do one more but overall very happy with how that turned out and now we're going to install the hardware and get some water into this within the next few days I should mention that it does say that after you've been your second coat you want to give it three days to dry before you put any water in [Music]
