time we publish on sidequest if you don't know what side quest is think of it like itch.io but specifically for VR developers can use this platform to test out their prototypes and build communities around their Early Access games sidequest even acts as a discovery platform for applab which is well oculus's platform for early Discovery game the more platforms that our games are on the better odds that they'll get discovered so let's hop in and publish to sidequest opening up Unity Hub we're going to go to installs and make note of what version of unity we're using and again we need to make sure we have the right modules installed so if we click on this Cog go to add modules since we are doing side quest and primarily focusing on the Oculus Quest We want to make sure that we have the Android build support open jdk and also the SDK installed if those are installed we can open up our project and get going with the project open let's go to edit project settings and double check and make sure that we have the right controller profiles set up so if we go to XR plugin management and we go over to the Android tab since we're deploying to Android in this video I'm going to make sure I have openxr checked and then I'm going to click open XR and again come over to the Android tab and I'm gonna have the Oculus touch controller profile and if if you don't have that profile just hit this plus sign you should be able to add it so now that we have that all set up and double checked let's go over customizing our player settings so hopping over to our player settings we can set up our company name we can do our product name the version what kind of Icon we wanted to have and we're going to want to make sure that we select over to the Android side and customize here as well color space is going to be set to linear I'm going to also have this set to astc coming down here we want to make sure that the Android level is set to at least 10 and then automatic here and finally scripting backend IL 2 CPP is what we're aiming for now that I have finished all that up I want to go over here and I'm going to add a key store so we have a little extra layer of security so I'm going to go ahead and check this to true I'm gonna go keystore manager and create a new one I'm going to put it in a dedicated location now remember where you put this don't lose the key store nor lose the password otherwise you won't be able to update your game so just make sure you put that another location that you're going to remember for this one just since this example I am just going to go and say I don't know tutorial keystore cool cool and I am going to save it here and then we have to put in some things here I'm going to use the magic of editing just to fill this all out really quick cool and I'm just gonna hit add key and it's going to ask you do you want to make this our key story for this project I'm just gonna say yeah all right and there we go that should be set now with that in place I'm gonna exit out and I am gonna start the build so I'm gonna go over here go to build settings and you'll see I'm already switched over to Android if you're not if this is highlighted doesn't say switch platform here you come over here it will say switch platform you switch platform it'll take a minute but it'll swap over another thing I want to point out is you want to make sure that you have all scenes that you want in your game in your game so let's say you had a title screen you'd want the title screen to be here you can swap these in place and whichever one is at index 0 is going to be the one that boots up first so there we go now we can get to building and to build I'm gonna make sure that texture compression here is set to astc I'm going to hit build and if I zoom out of here so I've already made a folder for my builds and you should do the same so you'll see this opens up into our project file and I created this folder I have a Android build and I have a PC build I'm going to go into here and you know what I'm going to create even another folder for this tutorial I'm going to call this side quest build and I'm Gonna Save and we are going to build all right and now we have our build done we can check it out if we go into our folder and you can see we have the dot APK file and now it's time to get on side quest and this is side quest this is the website you just need to make an account if you go over here and once you've made an account and go to things I created you can come down here and hit create an app we will be greeted with this page where it's requesting some information you know app title so VR sickness lab package name now this is an interesting one where do we find the package name well if we come back into our project and go up to edit project settings and go under player you can see here this is the beginning components of what we need for the package name but where is it hiding and if we come down here into other settings scroll down com.fistfulofshrimp.vr sickness lab that is going to be the package name now the problem with this package name for myself is the fact that I've already used this package name 2 to deploy on side quests so I'm just going to change it up I'm just going to add this LLC to the company name and if I come down here you'll see it's changed it and so now I can use a different package name so it won't give me an error when I add it to the sidequest website so let's go back to the sidequest website all right here we are I'm going to add that package name and then a one line summary that I've already written in save app why is this mad at me well it looks like it's still angry so I'm gonna change it up even more I'm gonna come in here and call this like just VR sickness lab I'll get rid of the the alright see you later the and now I'm gonna say that there we go now it's created and next we will be greeted with this page you know we have a longer description we can do which you can just add in something a little more detail so players know what's going on with your app we can add search tags you know is it a shooter is it RPG we can also do the version code here what level of comfort so you know this is the VR sickness lab it's meant to make people motion sick so you know I'd say it's intense we can tell what devices it should be on free demo open source and then download URLs this is where we want to add the APK file so if I hit add and then if I upload an APK file oh I'm stuttering a bit there we go and open this up you'll see this will add it in there it'll take a few seconds there and you can see that it has added it right here now you might be saying okay I've added descriptions tags everything that I should hear can I send for approval and it'll say no no not quite you need to make sure you add some artwork so if we come over to the art and media center we need to add some images here and I found the easiest way if you're just trying to get things out quick you oh also you could do some YouTube videos here and a screenshot but right if you want to just get some images get the thing going if you go over to listing guide you can see here it has the different dimensions we need for our images and the easiest I found was just to make sure we save this image and it will tell us the dimensions we need and kind of covers all the ground so I've already saved it and I'm going to open it up in Photoshop and show you what I mean now you can see in Photoshop that we have the dimensions here and that's gonna be 20 48 by 512 and so this is what we want for the full Banner size this is going to be the thumbnail and right here is where we want to keep the title in this safe space and so it's nice to open up this image and see where we want to Overlay things and if I turn on the VR sickness lab and let me select this and reduce the opacity so you can kind of see the overlay of what is going to show up versus not when you're doing the full banner and the thumbnail and yeah that is how I created the VR sickness lab little uh Banner image so coming back to sidequest if I come over here and I take my image and add it you can see this is going to fill in for the thumbnail well let's try the title screen because it looks like the thumbnail is not working none of this is working what's going on with you side quest Let me refresh it see if that helps nothing all right let me try one more time there we go so you see the safe area and the thumbnail has panned out there and then if I come over here oh there we go now we have the title then I mean if you want to just slap it everywhere I you know look I'm not an artist I'm just trying to get this prototype out there we go and so now I can come over here and send for approval but I've already submitted this so I'm not going to do that step I will give you a heads up though when you send it for approval it can take up to a week for it to get approved they actually see you can see here approval can take up to one week once sent in for approval but you know what I had no problem so I have a lot of faith that your game will easily be published onto the platform and just remember once it's approved that doesn't mean it's published yet you still have to go in and make sure you publish the game once it's approved and that is your quick little guide to how to publish on side quest if you found this useful likes and subscribes are the best way to support me at this time and I hope to see you in the next one bye [Music]
