in this video we're going to protect a pdf ebook from sharing and copying an ebook can be protected distributed and controlled in the same way as any other protected pdf document to prevent sharing the ebook can be locked to the device requiring the user to download a secure viewer and activate a license before being able to view it other restrictions can also be applied as required i will now give you a brief overview of these first open windows explorer locate the ebook pdf you wish to protect right click and choose make secure pdf in the writer in the document access area you can select whether your encrypted pdf ebooks can be viewed by all authorized users individual users or groups of users in the expiring validity tab you can restrict access to the ebook by setting expiry dates or allowing use for a set number of days after the first use in the printing and viewing tab you can control whether you want to allow printing limit the number of copies and log how documents are being used under the view watermarks and print watermarks tab you can add permanent or dynamic text watermarks or image watermarks and in the environment controls tab you can prevent screenshots and control use in certain environments with the relevant controls in place all you have to do is click publish once you press the publish button your pdf ebook is encrypted and the drm controls you have selected are applied so click publish the protection status window appears and confirms that the protection status has succeeded click ok the newly protected ebook now appears in the listing under the original pdf please note it now has a dot pdc extension this is now a protected pdf file which can only be opened with the lock listed secure pdf viewer if we double click to open the ebook the safeguard secure viewer will open and load the document and here we are here is the protected ebook and we are now able to view it in the secure viewer that's all there is to it when you have finished viewing the ebook close the viewer and close windows explorer
