[Music] hi this is David Odell with Odell complete concrete here's the demo of an existing patio concrete patio and they've got some different finishes going on here they've got some exposed aggregate and then they have what looks to be it was probably a broom finish at one time every other pad was separated by redwood 2x4 and then it did different finishes on them very common back in the 70s that type of look here's a little head cam action first thing you want to do when you get ready to set up your wood throw your forms down is a look down your board to make sure the crown is up I like the crown up and on occasions you'll have it down but mostly you want your crown up now this boards got if you notice a lot of cross cuts in it rips and that's because it was so bad that on the previous job in order to get it straight I put all those cross cuts in it just so I could tweak it around to get it straight and it's still working for the second job here's your three four five because I don't really carry a square I just can't rely on squares because they're so small and the walls and foundations are so irregular I need a bigger area to really get a good square so I like to use a three four five or six eight ten and what I did was I just stabbed in the 2x4 with the steak there held it on that point where I marked it with my Milwaukee magic marker or permanent marker I should say and then I just kept moving the 2x4 until I got square you can do that in the dirt too you can just draw a circle and just keep coming around till you hit all three points so now that I have that board in I know that's coming off of the house parallel now to get the other side I just measure over and this happens to be 18 feet across and 14 feet out so this is right where the old patio set and they had been sitting there for a good thirty five forty years or plus but so that dirt it's pretty much undisturbed which is good that means it's well settled or compacted and that's hard to achieve mechanically just over time so I like to go with native profitably and that's what we're doing here so we got a 14 out 18 across we got our 3/8 rebar here's that Milwaukee cut-offs I just gave away carborundum blade it cuts still really nice two-foot centers had some extra rebar through it all in put a couple 45s in the corners we're not gonna Dobie this up because we're gonna wheel it in we decided to not go with the pump because my son wanted to get a day in and I said well okay sure tell you what we'll do we get rid of the pumper that money the pumper would have got your Viet and then we'll do it this way so we're wheeling it out and the beauty of willing it out we can go big rock I mean there is some hard rock pumps us up but they're a real nightmare a lot of guys don't know how to operate them they don't want to hold the end of the hose you know because there's so much surge on them they want extra leavers extra this extra that so you will the big rock or you go with the pea gravel so you can swing the hoses relatively easy easily the reason we didn't Doby this remark because we are willing it and it's difficult it's a wheel over rebar when it's up in the air it's either gonna get bent or you're gonna get hung up in the wheel bar you flip it so what we're doing here is we're dumping a load I'm picking it up as I rot it now here's a little head cam action right off of me this mix here this is just before we're anticipating a little storm coming in here a lot of wet weather and we're trying to beat it basically so in order to beat the storm we got to get some coffee that's gonna go off get hard quick because we're gonna have you know the drainage off of the roof it's gonna be dripping down off the eaves in a specific pattern and whenever you get that kind of action going with water concrete even if it's you know 6 to 8 10 12 hours of old and you got a drip pattern off of the eave you're looking for some kind of trouble a drip pattern will start penetrating in those areas so I need economy that's gonna go off and this is a 30 to 50 psi it's a C 30 to 50 psi hard rock what that means with the C that city mix and that means no no preservatives not preservatives substitutes no substitutes so fly-ass is the substitute for cement and it's inexpensive and that's why you get a lot of fly ash in your mixes the bad news about fire axe it does contribute to some other chemical you know things that can happen to concrete but well normally you really don't need it it's just a inexpensive substitute for some at basically is what boils down to now this concrete here was going off relatively nicely I'd have to say very hard to keep up even though it's only a 1/4 yard pour because we kind of did it deep getting the joints in itself and you can see how the aggregate was just popping on that two and a half inch deep cutter three foot long the rocks were just popping and luckily I had two good cement in here and a lot of it to cream it back in with my normal 3/4 deep half inch radius if I didn't have some good cement in here but he's not where you gonna get the cream to fill the voids it's nothing but a struggle so we're gonna go with the good stuff and not have to fight it but you see how it's sunk down here along the edge of the house here that's because the way it's going off so gonna go on that really quick off the boards and at the same time we can wash clean the window from all that splatter because when you get into this high psi do have a tendency to get a little bit more splatter there's your half inch hand edger that new Milwaukee trowel you know set we just gave away so we got 9 by 7 squares here this job was completed from the start of the poor from will burying the concrete to the broom in 3 hours on a cloudy overcast day at about we're about 72 degrees I think on this day so everything happened pretty quickly there was between each step there was no no delay we went from rotting to bull floating right away to big blue and them edgers without delay no standing time in between each procedure in some cases you can do that you can kick back you can even possibly go to breakfast in between the ball float and the fresno in some occasions but not this day here's your 50% horsehair and nylon broom oh I forgot to mention we did add fiber mesh to this as well and that's a real beautiful thing because what that does it holds it together so if you were you know potentially just have to sock out this which I was dissipating through this whole process I said wow this stuff's going up I can't get two joints in today but you know I struggled through I got him in there but if I did have to sock on it knowing that I had the fiber in there I could have done that the very next day within 24 hours without a bunch of spalling and that's the beauty of it really did a little wrap around on that PVC drop down for the valves over yonder that way you know if this concrete shifts won't share that PVC pipe off so we put a little foam around that that's always good to do now we're ripping this and stripping it same day boom just three hours the beauty of it is that on these forms you can see how well-oiled they are that breaks away nicely from the concrete and I don't have to worry about an edge peeling away with two by four and a half and every edge and reap all that kind of stuff just comes away clean and loaded up and I go to the next jobsite sweet and simple anyway thank you for watching Oh another thing I wanted to mention is that I'm going to the konk World of Concrete in Las Vegas Nevada 2020 February of course and what I'm considering doing I went there last year you know but I want to do something big this time a little bit bigger than the previous and I want to do live so a lot of people can attend and I can understand that especially but it could in in the construction trade you don't have the money to take off time from work and get over there to convince cuz it costs money to get there takes away from money that you could be earning on the field so what I want to do is live and people that want to see specific things want them to say hey Dave since you're there can you go and look at this particular item I'm interested in it and I'm gonna hear you live and I'm gonna be there I'm gonna run around with my sons at the joint we're gonna go to each individual booth that everybody requests so not only you don't have to be there necessarily but you're gonna get to see what you want to see right away and I want to get a little feedback on that and see how you like guys think that's gonna work out and if you'd be interested in doing that Thanks have a good one and Happy Thanksgiving I hope we post before them but maybe not oh well see you later
