HOW TO PACK FOR KAYAK CAMPING | PLAN YOUR NEXT TRIP

hello friends I'm Kelly and I'm Cody and we're down line and today we want to show you everything that you need to go kayak camping so we can just jump right into it to start out you have to have something to float on that has plenty of space we chose these perception pescadores they're 10 foot long and the reason we chose them they have a lot of space so we have this storage in the back here on mine I also have fishing pole holders I like to go fishing Kelly I purchased mine at Academy three years ago but we didn't want to be Twinkies we wanted our own colors kelly ordered hers off Amazon and the only difference between ours is that hers doesn't have a kayak holder or everything sorry the fishing pole holders but she still has the same amount of storage also when you're purchasing a kayak you have to purchase your paddle separately and for better storage they come apart in two pieces and it's really simple to put it together when you're ready to go rules require you to have a lifejacket dry bags you can also purchase these on Amazon or an academy getting around if it's not close in your area and Bass Pro Walmart has some too as well this is what we have two of these and these are the pretty big 100 there's clothes in there oh that's a t-shirt bucket yeah okay so we put we have two of these because we put clothes in one and then we will put food in the other and with the dry better to close them they're okay with the dry bags since you can fold them up and water won't get in them we like to put these on the back as well because a lot of the other stuff we're going to put inside the boat and storage halls that we showed you before but the way that these clothes you have these two little strips there and you're just gonna fold it over you try to push all the air out as possible and it comes around and clips together also we have another drum bag this I put our kitchen accessories firestarter anything that use in that area which I'll go over later I put in this separate drumming so oh no we have furry drivers we have these I guess you call them old potato sacks you can get these here in Arkansas we get these from our Game and Fish Commission and you're able to reuse these litter bags and the great thing about them one they don't hold water so the water just runs right through it and it doesn't add extra weight and then you can take this strap and we usually just cut right here and just you know with the basic knot and threw it into the boat so that we can always have a place to store all our trash yet a couple things that we carry with this is one cordage we usually have cordage to be able to put a towel on if we're going to draw for any clothes or things that might get wet so it's always important we also have our fire starter other things I like to carry that a lot of people might not carry is I had this all hatchet and of course we always like have a survival knife that we take with this as well the next topic is first thing that you need for food is an ice chest I got this ice chest at Walmart is the Ozark Trail brand and it holds enough food and drink for about three days on the water and I like this ice chest because it's flexible and it fits easy on the back of a kayak next is our cookware so this whole little kit comes in a mesh baggie I'll show you how it fits in there this all came from Amazon and I want to say it was around 20 dollars so it comes with a plate to plate it's actually nice it has a a pot so whenever you're cooking kayak camping I try to go more for MREs which are the pre-made bag dried food and you just boil water which I boil here and you just pour the water in the bag you let it sit for a certain amount of time you can use those the only actual food I've ever really cooked on here is scrambled eggs in here and I've done oatmeal I believe that's the only actual exclude and I will boil water for coffee as well and for the coffee we just use a French press which we take that with us everywhere that we go so also there's a little lid that comes here goes on top of that and then a little scrub brush this is a ladle and then a couple of bowls which we beat yeah we've eaten up all these bowls before I really had to use the ladle has a little hook that comes with it and then also oh here's this a wooden spatula it comes with it and silverware so comes with a fork a spoon a nice a spork all right so I'm gonna pack all this inside here so I can show you how it stores this is a silverware comes in this little bag all goes in there and I put the lid on top and I always keep this in here with it as well and some that one other thing that I put in there that's separate from that so how to cook your food you can buy these pretty much anywhere Walmart is this Coleman brand but Walmart Academy BassPro anywhere themselves that kind of camping gear you can buy this there and this is the brand MSR and we actually had a friend gift us this for Christmas last year so I'll show you how this works open it up open it up make sure that this is off just screws on the top like that sorry my knuckles bleeding I've cut myself then you would just with your cooking you'll turn this on and we actually do carry a little lighter to put in here but you'll just turn that to the opposition light it and then set that on top and that's how well that works to be able to purify water we chose the survival filter okay I now know what you're gonna look like I have an old man okay this is the floating device the floater you throw this out in the water this cleans out a large debris comes through this system here pumps through it every single time you pull up a pump and it pops out here and it actually comes with this little clip that you can clip to a water bottle top or anything else so that you don't have to worry about it popping off you can purchase this survival filter and these replacement filters on Amazon the next thing that you want is somewhere to sit when you're kind of camping and we purchase these from Amazon G for free they have a bunch of other options but Kelly found this was a great bill and the reason that we like this is because it has a high back and I'll show you how these set up last but not least is where are you gonna sleep we have a two-person tent here that we got on Amazon we have a believe it or not this is a pillow and where'd we get this we're sure Amazon we love these we have two of these or two different brands this is the therm-a-rest this is what we're gonna lay on and I'll show you how that works but this was purchased off of Amazon as well it comes in a array of different sizes I believe this is an extra-large this one is a Coleman it's the same concept except I bought this at Walmart and we'll show you how this goes together so the cool thing about this tent is it has double doors on it and this door is pretty neat because it totally opens and you have all this space in here but if you look across the other side has its own door and it also just has a one slit zip where you go out that direction you can put your shoes or whatever else you want there to stay drop it open up and once they're laid out for a while I give it a couple of hours they're aired up all the way we've had those blown up a little bit but not much here same concept open and close but they both fit in here nicely and we're super comfortable at night usually a room or kayak camping it's never really too cold outside so when it comes to the bedding we really just lay on these and depending on the temperature at night I'll either cover up I'll just bring one sheet or a sleeping bag just to cover up with but other than that I mean it's just the air mattress so also I want to show you this pillow which packs up really nicely Kelly got to fill out the bag but what's so neat about this is it has a quick inflate and deflate when this is out you pull it blow on it make as hard as you want and no the air comes out you close it but when you're ready to let all the air out simply hit that little tab okay so in my boat we have the two green bags that I talked about that was the one up with food went up with clothes this little rope here actually comes undone and when they're both filled up they fit here we have the two sleeping pad and they go here and we'll put one chair on my boat they're black over so believe it or not even with those bags full with stuff it holds very well and then also back here in this little compartment it looks little but it's really not it goes pretty it's the whole empty cavity underneath this kayak so back here we shove Beach tap you just take 2 beach towels and then if we take our sleeping bag both sleeping bags sit back there and a sheet if we took a sheet that all actually shoves in here and well we unroll right I mean we unroll it and like literally shove it in you know it fit perfect in this front cavity by the way this is the cooker in addition we slide that in there and then there's still room over here on this side if you can see there's room over here you should put the camera gear camera here and the French press actually fit there and now we'll go over Kody's boat ice chest on mine and because I chest is so tall will usually just do one and then we'll put the trash bag on top of this back here and we'll have the trash right here and all that strapped in there so that's usually what goes in well there you have it that is all of our kayaking gear with our kayaks and everything that you would need to know if you have never been kayak camping and you would like to try it I think it out there and do it it's really fun I enjoy it it everything fits in our boat it works pretty good and if you all have any suggestions or something that you all
