in this video I'll be showing you how to paint the armored might of the Astra militarum as we paint a simple camo scheme on a Lehman rust battle tank don't forget you can substitute these colors for your preferred scheme let's get painting to start with I have primed everything with xandry dust I've also taken some spare arms off the new artillery kits to make the tank commander fit in with the rest of the army as for the tracks I've left them on the screw and sprayed them all with lead Belcher the first thing to do is roughly set out that Camel pattern now I'm using some castellan green use whatever color you want and all I'm doing is taking a large dry brush and just dabbing this into the model in a rough camo scheme leaving some striped areas all the way across don't forget when it comes to the turret set it in the neutral forward-facing position and use this to guide how you apply camo to the turret itself next up I take a normal brush and cast line green and go around the edges tidying it all up to make it nice and smooth or Jagged if you're doing some urban camo now this is probably most time consuming step on the entire part of the model so just take your time make sure it's nice and tidy and you've got adequate splits between the xandry dust which is the lighter stripes and the darker castle and green stripes now it's time for shading and lining them on now we could take forever and do this individually using some agraps Earth shade but we're gonna do something slightly different we're going to dollop agrax illustrate all over the model we're going to go a panel at a time then we're going to take some contrast medium and paint this over the aggress shade so we've got something that's really nice and thin I'm going to paint this all over moving it around making sure it doesn't settle too much and give it some ugly tide marks now we could use an oil wash for this but I need this to dry pretty quickly so that's why I've gone for the acrylic method and this will dry fairly rapidly like I said just make sure it doesn't pull too heavily at the bottom with that agrax wash completely dry and make sure it's completely dry we're now going to go back to dry brush some cast lime green over those green areas and this is just going to help us bring back some of the depth but also if we do have any tide marks this will cover over it quite nicely next up we'll take some Lauren forest and do exactly the same I haven't cleaned the dry brush it's the same dry brush and I'm just going to focus painting from top down to the bottom so I catch all those raised edges and start to generate a little bit of an edge highlight now this is a really subtle color change so just take your time with it and just slowly build it up next up we'll take some Strack and green and do exactly the same except we're aiming this on slightly less of the surface area this time really focusing around those edges and trying not to get it on any panels take your time and work your way around the tank and this will give you a nice effect and a nice smooth transition up the final highlight we'll do is with noogling green and this is going to be fairly sparingly just across those top and most exposed areas I'm using the dry brush because it gives you a nice surface area to drag along but if you are using a pointed brush just take your time moving back to the lighter areas we'll start with xandry dust and we're going to focus this all over those Andrew dust areas exactly the same kind of thing we did with the cast line green just using this to cover up any areas where we've got some Tide marks and also bring in some nice smooth transitions if you are using the same dry brush make sure it's complete clean and completely dry before you start this stage next we'll dry brush some ushabdi bone across the top raised part of the model again mimicking what we did with the Lauren forest in the previous stage on the green so just take your time with us being careful to make sure it is still within that xandry dust area and you're not spilling over onto any green the final highlight we'll do is with screaming skull so again we're going to focus on those top raised areas and use this fairly sparingly like we did with the nuggling green because this is a nice bright Punchy color so take your time focus on those topped edges and if you do make any mistakes you can always paint over it with some Thin Downs Andre dust we'll paint all the black bits next such as the weapon casing the smoke launchers as well as the rotary columns for the heavy bolters on the sponsors and the engine casing on the back now I want a matte black for this so I'm using AK intense black which actually covers fantastically well when it's thinned down but you can use whatever black you've got just take your time around those bits you've already finished we can get some really nice Edge highlighting done now use a mechanical standard grate on the tip of your brush just drag it along all those sharp edges on the black Parts we've just painted and you get a really nice highlight make sure you haven't got too much on your brush and that you pull it into a nice point to get some extra pop on the black areas we'll just take a little bit of administrative gray and what we're looking to do make sure we haven't got too much on our brush and we're just looking to catch those edges that face upwards so really only the top edges and this will give you a nice bright light that you'll be able to see from quite a distance we'll base all of the metallics next and the color I'm using is dark aluminum from The Velo metal color range now you can use lead Belcher if you've got that iron Warriors if you want something a little darker if you're not sure what happens to paint check the box out where I've got the barrel of the gun I've got the barrel of the heavy bolters some of the design elements such as the Laurel wreath on the engine cover don't worry about the exhaust though we'll do them later shading that metal is nice and simple using some numb oil now just take your time with this so you don't spill it on any areas you've already completed but just work your way around and then when it's dry we'll come back and start highlighting we'll highlight using Chrome from Valeo Model 8 if you haven't got this then you can use storm hole Silver or roofing steel from Citadel and what we're looking to do is just catch those sharp edges for a nice crisp metallic highlight just take your time with this make sure you've got a decent point on your brush and that you're pulling it along those edges next up we'll stipple some black onto the vents to give the impression of some smoke coming out there now I want a really matte black so I'm using coal black from Pro you can use whatever black you've got just make sure it's matte for any searchlights we first need to base the lens with white now I'm going to use Clorox white which is quite lumpy and quite horrible out of the pot but with a little bit of water it sins down Maxi and it's got great coverage once that's dry I'm going to take some titanium white from procrill again you can use whatever white you've got and I'm just going to highlight the sort of top half of the lens and then once that's completely dry I'm going to make it nice and bright and yellow and the color I'm used is iron Jaws yellow I'm just going to paint this all over if you want to use a different color for your lens then feel free but I want something nice and bright like this while we wait for that to dry let's get started on the track so the first thing we want to do is cover them in agric miniature we really work it into all those recessed areas now only worrying about painting the bit that you'll actually see here so I'm not worried about painting The Underside just the front side then take some really thin down scrag brown paint now I'm talking three or four past water to paint here so it's really nice and thin and I'm just going to wash this all over those areas to give a really nice rust effect make sure that our grass is completely dry and then make sure this scrag brown is completely dry before we go on to the next step finally dry brush all of those tracks using some either necron compound or one of the other Silvers that you've got and just lightly dry British around those areas it'll pick up the bits are in contact with the ground where the little bits of rust is likely to fall off but leaving it in the recesses again make sure it's completely dry before you stop this stage to paint the exhaust we're going to give them a rusty weathered effect so the first thing to do is take some tight stress corrosion and paint this all over the exhaust stack so that's the tube at the top as well as the stacks that attach to the tank while we've got that typhus corrosion out let's make a start on weathering the bottom of the tank so all we're going to do is take some typhus corrosion make sure you're using an old brush for this and paint it on the bottom area of the tank then clean your brush off in the water wipe it on the towel and then all you need to do is just paint the top part of that type of scrotion and that'll help it blend into the tank paint Scheme now if you put too much water on like I do here all you need to do is just take a dry brush and suck up the water and any little bit of paint that you've got left there and you'll be left with a much clearer area that we need to dirty up again so just take a little bit more typhus corrosion and stipple that on and what you'll find is it'll dilute as it touches that water spread out a little bit and give you a really nice easy effect the final thing to do is to rest up the those exhausts now I'm using razor rust dry paint if you haven't got risers use any bright orange and all we're looking to do is just dry brush over that typhus corrosion on the exhaust stack again make sure it's completely dry before you start this stage and start off lightly and then slowly build up the amount of rest till you get the brightness effect that you desire if you want to dull it down after you can pop some agrax surface on it but I'm really happy with how this looks and there we have it we are done this tank is ready to trundle onto the table top and destroy the enemies of the emperor of mankind I really hope you enjoyed the video if you want to know how to paint the tank commander then check out this video here where it'll show you everything you need otherwise thanks for watching I'll see you next time
