hey guys Andy here from mediocre Hobbies coming at you with a very special video Games Workshop very kindly sent me one of the beautiful new battle for Australia box sets for the Lord of the Rings series the Lord of the Rings strategy battle game is a miniature game that is very very close to my heart it's actually where I got my first Beginnings into the Hobby and I still to this day believe that it is the strongest set of rules Games Workshop has ever produced I still love playing games of Lord of the Rings I hope to introduce you guys to the Lord of the Rings on this channel I'm going to be doing a lot more Lord of the Rings strategy battle game content moving into the new year and I hope you guys will follow along on also enjoy that content I'm going to start off by of course delving into the escalate box set I know a lot of other creators have already created content around this box set but their content is very bombastic it's very big it's very bold it's not a lot of um things that people at home can go away undo and replicate so I'm going to come at it from the other angle and I'm going to show you guys how to get all the Miniatures in the escaladeath Box paint it up to a nice standard quickly easily and start playing your first games of strategy bottle game I'm going to start off in this first video with the scenery I hope you guys stick around and enjoy the video okay so this is the piece of a skillet scenery that I've constructed out of the box I'm giving it a single coat of chaos black spray um just as my base coat these are the three main colors that I will do to give it that uh the White City look so we're going to start with Tyler and sand then up to Carrick Stone and then pallid witch flesh I'm gonna use my dry brush technique for the two after paints I'm a tolerance sign I'm just trying to get a nice solid coat all over the entire building this will probably require two thinner coats because obviously Tolerance on is quite a bright color verging on a yellow and it's going over a flat black so it's going to be quite streaky and but that is okay like I said obviously I'm working with a rather large brush and it does not take much time to uh get that first coat on and then the second coat is even quicker again so just flash it on smooth it out try not to have any like patches of blobs or anything like that just nice smooth coat would be ideal and as you can see I am working very fast I'm not being particularly careful and that is one of the joys of scenery they are just supposed to be background pieces for the game they're supposed to frame your armies and your Miniatures they're not supposed to steal attention away so I personally don't put a lot of time into pain with them having said that the end result on painting up this piece of scenery I was very proud of and I think I absolutely nailed uh the look of the White City or oscarious there's a lot of depth in the color which is exactly what we want after the tolerance side has been applied in two coats you can see the result here really nice solid base coat really nice place to work up from so that's what we're going to do we're going to go to the next color which of course is Carrick Stone this is moving much closer to the kind of chalky off-white color that the city actually is and then I'm gonna actually start with the dry brushing of the miniature as you can see there's very little transfer between the bristles and the the terrain as I'm making each pass this is I feel um one of the most important things to remember when you're dry brushing you should have minuscule amounts of paint on your brush there should be very little transfer you should be going over a section of model 20 30 times with with a dry brush The Strokes as opposed to three or four heavy Strokes which will cause you to have a much more kind of thicker paint blobs or streaks things that we do not want to have and on miniatures therefore I prefer taking my time like I said it's always easier to add more paint on so make more passive than it is to try and remove paint if you've applied too much to a section assistant see I'm still working around that first section until I'm happy with the coverage so that's what I like that's it if I've nailed it that's what I want to do so now I'm going to work around the rest of the the piece of scenery until all the sections look the same as this I think if um You Nail dry brushing you learn that scale down to a t it will improve uh so many different aspects of your painting here I'm moving on with the floor and as you can see I like changing direction with the floor I don't want it to seem like there's any streaks or lines or anything like that and so I'll do back and forth left right on a lot of time I'll move in circular motions with the dry brush on big flat areas like this and it does work a treat in getting the paint to where it wants to go without like I said having any specific um kind of brush Strokes uh left behind as you can see the first few Strokes I always applied to the miniature after I've reloaded with paint are very soft a very light and that's just me testing the waters making sure I have removed enough of the paint before I dive in as you can see once I've got the demanded paint applied correctly so this is one wall and this is it performance driver so obviously it's night and day the difference between these two things and the amount of detail you see on the right hand section of wall is is quite shocking and like I said it's all because of a quick dry brush okay now we're going to use pilot witch flesh to jump up again we're gonna do exactly the same thing now normally the third dry brush in this series would be the lightest and we would only be trying to catch the edges but like I said we're trying to build up the the White City of the Australia they're ministered white stone so we are going to go a little heavier than normal the previous drivers were just there to have um like a little variation in tone and color underneath the Rock it's to build that depth of color which I know is a real artsy kind of fatty way of saying um no we don't want the wall to just be solid white we want it to look like there's kind of debris salad or it's a lump of limestone or whatever isn't just going to be white so like I said I will show you one quick section then I'll show you the three bottom sections all done and you can see like I said top and bottom so as you can see it is a beautiful white color but you can see all those other Shades shining through it looks like a piece that I've spent a lot of time on when I really have it that's one of the best things that you can do while you're painting if you can make it look like you've spent a lot of time on effort on a piece when you haven't then I in my opinion you're winning at painting that is the only true way to uh Hammer a backlog or uh get through your pile of opportunity or whatever buzzword you'd like to say for your pile of Miniatures you got to get through presidency has a set of buildings on a table this is going to look very very nice and when I get to other Miniatures out of the box set paint it up for you guys I do hope to have feel a few battle reports and not so much words more like how to plays so show you guys the rules for the strategy battle game and to follow along and easy to get you guys going and hopefully I can show you some of the more advanced kind of nuances to the game as well which really make it stand out from other games to me same thing with the floor up and down left to right and then a couple circular motions just to blend it in a little bit that's all you got to do is follow through with that same thing on the entire piece and you will have a building that looks like this now I don't know about you but I think that is absolutely perfectly matched to what the movie scenes look like for us I think that stonework is exactly the right color the last touch we are going to do with this piece is grab some gore grown to fur and because all of the exposed wooden beams have been covered with the whites which I dry brushed up and as I was going on on purpose it means that we can simply throw a contrast on top of these and leave it at that it will bring up the wood beautifully break up the white a little bit if you're doing any sections of building which have doors like I said I would make sure to hit them with the same white stone color as I'm going along and then just hit the doors with the same color gorg on the fur little lead Belcher for the uh kind of Silver Cross sectioning across the doors and that's really the only difference you'll have to worry about when painting up your set of skinnier throws cannot wait to get the other three pieces of scenery painted up from this box set okay guys and there we have it some are Skillet runes painted using I believe four paints not including the spray and about I don't know 20 minutes of actual painting time this means you could get all the pieces of Skillet scenery out of the box that painted up maybe two hours so I hope that helps you guys out and take your first steps into the world of uh the Lord of the Rings strategy battle game if it did and you enjoyed this video make sure you drop it a like ask me any questions you have about that game in the comments below anything and I would be more than happy to get back to you guys and chat about it if you want to support me and help me grow this channel there's two very easy ways to do this one hit that subscribe button it really does make all the difference and two there's links to my patreon below which will give you links to uh like private Discord server and a host of other benefits thank you guys so much for watching the end of the video I'll see you in the next one
