this video is proudly sponsored by Squarespace Squarespace is the all-in-one website platform to make your work stand out more on that later hello and welcome to my channel and welcome to a really cool video at least I hope it is I always love painting optical illusions if you do it right it looks amazing and it feels very rewarding today as the grand finale for my shovelcast project painting videos I go to do just that and also tackle a topic I haven't done yet glass bottles specifically bottles with liquid in them it is not a basic tutorial I want to be very clear this is an advanced video I still suggest you watch it and try to understand the concept behind what I'm doing how light interact with the materials and how to interpret that into the model and remember and this is very important if you never try to do things you consider impossible you will never achieve them let's get cracking all right foreign and first of all what we're going to do is paint the liquid inside but before we do that let's take a minute to appreciate how the satin paint is telling us where our highlights on The Clash should be we have one big highlight here a highlight on the recess on one stretchy highlight on the top here so we are going to mimic that later on but first of all is painting the liquid and I want a green liquid so I'm going to start with a green color and in my case it's going to be mood green always when you do the liquids think about what is going to be the main focus point of the miniature in this case is going to be this view here so I'm going to paint my liquid according to that just like that thin layer so we don't create any texture and I'm also going to do like as if the liquid worth moving inside of the bottle I'm going to leave the Thunderhawk blue there just as an indication with our liquid now sketch I would like to first of all map my highlights both in the glass and in the liquid itself and for this I'm going to use firmation gray on the glass and I said I want a big highlight here remember because this is a sphere the highlights also need to be circle shape [Music] that will be my main highlights and for the liquid I'm going to use a one-to-one mix of mud green and Dawn yellow [Music] and we can correct with the surrounding colors if we are not happy with the result I'm now going to start to shade the green just to get a little bit more of depth and for this I'm going to use warp Stone glow first of all on the liquid there I'm there towards the bottom you don't need to worry too much about being hyper smooth here it's not really needed now I want to smooth out the highlights and for this I'm just going to take a one to a mix often recent gray and Thunderhawk blue and I'm just going to apply it in between both colors probably not going to bother too much with a highlight in The Recess there [Music] and now I'm going to shade the glass A little bit more and for this what I'm going to use is nagaroth night as a glaze the reason I'm using knuckle of Knight is because this has a purplish tinted glass and if you want to see a detailed video on how to apply glazes like a pro I suggest the video will be linking in the top right corner now and probably in the description of the video as well I'm just going to glaze this slowly patiently to build up that purplish here I don't want an overly purple vial it would be a bit too much but that slight Touch of purple I think is really really useful to combine the look that I want it's been three months now since I opened my web using Squarespace and since then I've changed tweaked it and made subtle changes all the time and it's so easy with Squarespace you really don't need to know anything about web programming you just drag and drop is super intuitive and it looks so good listen I'm not a web designer but thanks to their award-winning professional templates it's a matter of selecting the one you like the most and then just tweak it to your own style they are 100 customizable and they will look amazing on any device the possibilities I now have with this powerful engine are endless you can even make your own Shop sell anything from digital to physical products with these with a Squarespace head to squarespace.com for a free trial and when you're ready to launch go to squarespace.com Juan Hidalgo to save 10 of your first purchase of a website or domain I ended up doing the same glaze with nagar of night on the green Parts as well it wasn't my initial plan but I think it looks really really good it helps to unify everything into this purple glass I think it looks fantastic so I'm really happy with how that looks and now I want to define the liquid a little bit more I want to do a darker line so I'm going to take nagar of night again thin down really really thin negro knife is a really powerful color so it's treated with care I'm going to do a line just in between the glass and the liquid now you can see that the slowly but surely building up and I'm going to do one more highlight I'm going to take Thunderhawk blue and then go into glaze it towards this side just like that [Music] now I'm going to take warp Stone glow and then go into the same on the bottom here [Music] now I'm going to move to firmation gray for the glass part just like that and you can you can clearly see how that is creating that super cool glassy effect and mood green for the glass [Music] [Music] I am pretty happy with how that looks now and now it's time to add some more details I'm going to start with some bubbles in the liquid and for this I'm just going to go to my mix of one to one Dawn yellow and wood green and also some mood green depending on where I do them starting with the dawn yellow and mood Green Mix now to mood green I'm moving more towards the darker part I also want to simulate the wick of the bomb because that is present on the concept art of the character and for this there is no escaping that you have to do it from a certain angle and this angle will be the angle for the picture so something like that because we need to make this for this I'm using nagar of Knight thin down to this sort of consistency pretty thin foreign [Music] [Music] a little bit on the other side so we have a more defined Wick just like that and now I want to highlight that Wick a little bit especially on the green side for that I'm just going to take mood green thin down into a sort of a glaze just like that really easy color to work with in glazes and I'm going to just paint it over the wick on the on the bottle side especially towards the highlight and go to the same with fan retin gray so especially towards this point here a little bit there just like that pretty happy with how that looks one final highlight of a one-to-one mix of Don yellow and wood green on these upper side here of the shushing liquid [Music] right now I'm really really happy with how this looks but we haven't done yet because although this looks pretty good we'll still need to do all of the classy Reflections and for this I'm going to use old Fu and gray I'm going to final full and gray to a glaze consistency well sort of a heavy glaze I'm going to start by applying this over basically all of the reflections as you can see we are applying this over all of the elements that's what it's going to give us that depth effect because this highlight is on the exterior of the glass just the light hitting the glass itself so we're going to apply this over all of the elements that's why we have to keep this really really thin and build it in layers [Music] and now to finish it all off we just need Pure White and with white we just are going to repeat the same step as little full and gray but this time extremely concentrated just on the most brightest reflections and and with that we're finished this is the final result and I'm extremely proud of how it looks I think the optical illusion is very convincing and the effect is just as I wanted to be of course this kind of effect reads better from a specific angle and there is nothing we can do about it but that's just the price we pay when we go for extreme realism in the end our Miniatures are solid plastic and that glass vial is not real glass I still think this is the best tutorial on getting a realistic liquid bottle effect for your Miniatures available on this platform and I'm extremely proud of it thank you for watching this video and don't forget that if you like my videos and want to help me make them you can follow me on
