[Music] hi everybody and welcome back to my channel today i'm going to be showing you step by step in acrylics how to paint this angel looking in towards a very warm light in a forest we're going to be using a few different colors today and painting on a light gray primed 16 by 20 canvas so i just took a little bit of my acrylic white paint and black paint and made a soft gray color i completely dried it off and now i'm ready to begin the next step i've got a large blending brush filbert brush this is a number there are i've got a number 30 and i've also got a number 15. this one is my number 50. i'm going to get it a little bit wet and we're going to start just the beginning stages up and down with some white and a little bit of cadmium yellow cool i've also got neon red phthalo blue and a little bit of black now keep in mind you can paint your background any color that you want you can use different variations of these colors so any red or orange or pink any blue and any yellow keep in mind there's light and cool tones and temperatures of each color so it will change it up just a little bit but as long as you have a nice bright gradation of light going slowly um out making it a little bit darker it's gonna you're gonna get that same effect and it's gonna be really really pretty so with a bit of water white and yellow on my brush i'm going to start in the middle line my brush up at the top and just pull that paint down in long sweeping strokes i'm going to get a little bit more water on my brush loosen up some of that paint i'm going to start a little bit lower down now and work my way out and we want the center of the painting to be the brightest so it might take a few layers but if you're working on a white canvas it won't take as long i'm just going to work a little bit of that paint out of my brush with some water now right away i'm going to go into without washing my brush off a little bit of the neon red mix it with a little bit of yellow and i'm going to start pull out towards the outer edges of the canvas get those colors again so i'm going to take a little bit of white with my neon red and it's going to change the tone up a little bit a little bit softer possibly pinkier i'm going to turn my brush like this now and do some lines this is going to give us the illusion of some trees okay then i'm gonna pick up a little bit of my phthalo blue and just mix it in with the colors i've got here so red yellow maybe a bit of white whatever's left in my brush and i'm just going to start pushing and tapping along the bottom slightly flicking up and then a little scumble add a little bit of white to that so get a bit of a green greeny blueish color and we'll just start to work our way up get a bit of water on my brush and i'll start to slightly go over some of those lines that are our trees and i'll do the same on this side and then i'm going to turn my brush this way and just softly blend make this look really fuzzy i'm going to take a little bit of my paint went down the edge there a little bit of black with that we'll just have a few trees along the edge here that are a little bit darker and a little bit of water in my brush now you could come in with your trees with a different brush of course like a a round brush a filbert um a flat brush would work really well but i find this brush works quite well because i can cover up larger areas of it like this and then i can turn it like this to make those narrower lines that i want i'm going to take a little bit of i'm running out of blue but i think i could mix in a little bit of this yellow with the blue and the black come over to this side start at the top pull maybe a little bit more yellow this time just to change up the tone and then work out the rest of that page out of your brush and make it fuzzy again just by really quickly blending that out now i'm just going to have a look at this and make sure that it doesn't look too uniform i don't want it to be matching and look too identical i want to have some different widths in my trees now so i'm going to choose one or two to make a little bit wider and i'm just going to take see where i've got a little bit of that red and yellow and take a little bit of black with that even a little bit of that pinky color with a white and oh i think this one right here i'm going to bring these two trees in to make one a little bit more black and make a little bit of a lighter color and i think i'll come in right here i'm on an angle i'm going to dry this off completely and then we'll start our net our next step we're going to be adding more white in here to brighten this up even more we've got this soft yellow but i want to have a nice bright uh not pure white but i want it to be a couple shades lighter than this or brighter and then i might overlap filter over with a bit more of a golden um orange color or maybe a bit more of the yellow with the red combined we'll see but for now i'm just going to take just straight white clean brush pretty much all dry it's just damp a little bit damp from washing it out and we're going to go right right down the center so now it's nice and bright here's my number 30 filbert like i mentioned earlier it's a bit damp i've got just a little bit of that neon red and i'm just gonna slightly filter over a little bit here i'm gonna pick up a little bit of my yellow with that a little bit of water loosen that a little bit more here to work with bit of water take a little bit of yellow with that and we can add a little bit down here a bit of white red yellow just little scoops maybe it's little soft sunlit areas and patches of grass i'm just taking a bit of that blue that's left there with a little bit of red and white make somewhat of a soft purple shade that's very subtle i think i'll pick up just a little bit of my blue so i can demonstrate that a little bit better white phthalo red a little bit more red depending on what shade you want so we can start adding little hints of purple in here it's like a light blue violet kind of gives it like a smoky hazy feel to it kind of dreamy like just add it wherever you want now i'm just going to take a tiny bit of black with that purpley color just to make it a little bit darker i know this is going to dry darker i want this to be a little bit more of a vignette on the bottom but just use whatever color that you want that will be darker i don't want to cover up all that pretty blue and greenish color like it's kind of like a harmony of colors here i really like all this together so i'm going to leave it like that and i'm just going to add a little bit more here a few more highlights a little bit more yellow like this beautiful gold bright golden color just add a little bit of light through the trees just brighten that up a little bit more okay and now we can get started with uh our angle figure and for her or him i'm going to be using a filbert brush to start this one that's all i've been using are filler brushes make sure you guys have a few different sizes of each brush that's my top tip for today i'm trying to see the size on this it's pretty worn out my guess is that it's a 12 but use any um size brush that is suitable and that you're comfortable with using you can use a round brush as well now i'm gonna be taking some black to start i'm gonna just use this color the smoky color here is going to be a really nice color so that it's not completely black silhouette um and it's going to be slightly filtered so we're going to get some filtering through some of the feathers on her wings now i'm saying her but of course this can be male or female i'm going to start right about here and just do a waist and then narrowing down maybe she's wearing a dress a flowy dress a little bit more black i'm just getting in the main shape once i have that then i'll work on adding more layers to make this look more solid so she's not see-through just took a little bit more of my blue so i can keep this same color going here and a little bit of white make that smoky plum color again and then some arms just coming down to the side when the paint is still wet like this you can take some off move some around correct anything you want to i'm going to add some shoulders line across take a little bit of black in here make this part darker i'm not worried about her arms here because it's going to be covered up with the wings then we're just going to do a line like this for her neck and then i just push for her head a little oval or kind of a lopsided circle and then maybe she's got a little bit of hair coming down i want to give her dress a little bit more of a sheer light effect maybe roughly maybe flowy so i can easily come back in here with a little bit of water and stumble some of that around then where i want to have her legs i can come back in i can do this quite easily with a little bit of black so okay just leave that for now i think that looks kind of pretty i'm gonna bring in her wrist a little bit narrow right there and now i'll start on her wings get my brush a little bit wet and i'm going to take some blue some red a little bit of white get those mixed up and we're going to do that comes level with her head aligned right here on a slant towards her shoulder so just that first and then we're going to round go slightly up push your lid off round push let off so it's pointy i'm going to add a little bit of water to my brush so that it starts to be a little bit more fluid and see through and we're just gonna push and then turn as we get into this area here we're going to start to line our brush up a little bit differently you're going to need to load your brush up quite often push overlap and then just go right up to her arm i'm going to add the darker paint right here it's going to be in shadow do the same thing on the other side so the feathers start to come in shorter here and they go right over part of her arm i'm gonna very carefully take the end off of these ones right here just so that they're a little bit higher up so the shape is up like that okay more water on my brush more red and [Music] blue and then just start to overlap start to just kind of scumble and make this look like give this sort of a fluffy look and then we'll take more blue and red we're just going to come tight in here running out of paint i'm going to pick up a little bit of black this time bring that up just slightly over top of the other one and start another layer right it's all about building up these layers and having those filtered ones just letting that light in that's so important right here do a line and then start to make it kind of soft and then bring it up so it goes like this around and up over up and over or just something like that just do whatever you can that's closest to this i'm going to go from the ends and bring some attention to them just a few little pulls quick little pulls and flicks take some black and this is where i'm going to have her head neck and in between the wings darker you so they're not blue and red and just cut in and bring these legs a little bit closer together narrower right in here a little bit of loose hair take just a little bit of blue and white i just add a smoky blue effect on some of these feathers it's kind of pretty and then i was going to come in here and do some shorter ones with the blue push pull flick we're going to come inside here continue with those feathers and then we'll get working on this other side okay so let's mix up that blue red color again push let off push little i'm gonna get a little bit more red this time more water that line that comes in here take a little bit of my blue and black and match that and we're just come slightly up i'm just going to pull off of that dark color and use it to shadow and blend out just a little bit here just going to take off a little bit of this paint make it look a little bit more filtered go into my red a little bit of white here get that smoky plum kind of a color again see all these colors that we've got underneath to play a part in creating all these other colors they all work off of each other mix some of that light purpley color again a little bit more to the top of her head i'm going to come in between and add the last little bit of filtering just a light color here a little bit of red and white also take a little bit of our red and yellow and white make that soft peachy background color and then let's just finish this off by adding a little bit of a glow soft fuzzy feathery feathery glow here okay i'm going to call this one done this was a lot of fun to paint and i haven't painted a lot of angels so this is a nice one to add to my collection if you'd like to see
