route to attract new customers for big and small businesses while it helps to have spare cash to invest on google ads all facebook ads there are plenty of other options you can use to drive customers through your doors even if you have no money i know what i'm talking about i built my entire business online without spending anything on advertising today i'm going to share with you how you can do something similar for your local business based on my own experience and using some free tools let's start with the most important one of them all google search according to internet live stats there are 3.5 billion searches on google every single day 29 of which will return results that include local business listings in the form of a map back this means just over 1 billion results where your business could show up anyone typing a keyword which contains a local intent such as near me nearby or the name of a location like new york or toxin will see a list of three local businesses that could be a possible match each business listing will include information such as customer reviews phone number how to get to that business and more this is the perfect opportunity to be found by new customers who have never heard of you before for your business to be listed in google search results and on google maps you just need to claim a google my business listing which is completely free a map where your business is located and more this requires little to no maintenance is super fast and is owned by google which means it will always likely be in line with their most up-to-date search engine optimization evolution and technical requirements although this is totally free to use just like wix you won't be able to choose your main domain name unless you are willing to spend around 10 rolling in which is fantastic the secret to becoming a successful business owner however is not just to grow your client base but also to nurture the relationship you've established with existing ones details and build an email list you can use free google sheets for that then all you need to do is send emails regularly to these clients in which you can share some of your latest news with them each customer individually as it would take too long instead you can automate this process by using a tool called mailchimp i've personally been using mailchimp for several years and i think it's a fantastic tool you can use pre-defined email templates for any occasion and send professional looking emails to thousands of people in just a few clicks which really minimizes the work although i'd pay for a subscription mailchimp offers a free plan in which you can send up to 10 000 emails to 2 000 contacts every month which should be more than enough to cover your needs don't start bombarding your clients with tons of emails though i think once a month should be more than enough to get some decent results time to talk about another avenue most of you have already embraced to attract customers when on a zero budget social media channels almost all business owners i know have created a facebook business page while i believe there is some value into creating one i also know this is not the best place to invest your time and energy to reach new clients as a matter of fact compared with a google my business listing a facebook business profile fails into insignificance and is the least effective organic social media channel of them all most of the content you will be posting on your page will not be seen and will hardly yield any new clients this is not because there are less facebook users on the contrary since 2008 it has never stopped growing but so have facebook revenues the reason behind this is because facebook wants businesses to pay for ads to be seen on a platform and businesses do but if you have no budget facebook is not for you however if it's still your favorite form of free marketing i recommend you watch this video called facebook business page versus about the other big one instagram for those of you who don't know instagram is owned by facebook and is clearly following the same path in other words unless you have cash and are willing to pay for ads to promote your business on both these platforms only a tiny weeny part of whatever you post will be promoted for free and it's not really worth your time does it mean you should give up on social media channels all together no if you have no money and want to use social media to drum up business there are two platforms you should consider the first one is linkedin linkedin will show your content to a lot of viewers for free giving you the chance to be discovered by new clients i have tested this myself and started publishing video content on my linkedin profile and sure enough i'm getting a decent amount of views every time i do i've also been contacted by several potential clients who needed help to promote their small business on the back of it so try out be mindful that the audience on linkedin is fairly mature and mostly b2b which works very well for my business if you are targeting a younger audience and want your content to be seen for free i suggest you give tiktok a go this app has exploded over the past 12 to 18 months and the organic reach is quite incredible again i tested it myself and the videos i posted got a very decent amount of views despite being a brand new account so i recommend you give this a shot too as you can see it is possible to market your local business online even if you don't have any budget you just need to make sure you are visible when people are searching the most and not spend too much time unnecessarily on the wrong platform if you follow my recommendations the one thing you must remember is that all of them will
