it's me free reads hi friends it's me bri today let's make valentine's together like this [Music] let's make valentine's three ways first we'll make this heart-shaped friend and practice handwriting with a valentine message let's make a smiley valentine friend with writing practice for this project you'll need paper whatever colors you choose for the arms and legs front heart back heart and hands and feet also scissors glue colors to write with a pencil and i'm using googly eyes you could draw them too [Music] now take a moment to gather your materials [Music] we'll start with the front heart this heart will be the face of our valentine friend i take a piece of paper and fold it in half this way push down on the fold i keep the fold on the left hand side then with my pencil i'm going to make half a heart shape from the fold i go up curve around and down to the edge again [Music] up curve around and slant down now i'll cut out the heart shape remember don't cut on the fold just follow the pencil line that you made [Music] and stop then you can open the fold to have a heart the same on both sides [Music] i decided i wanted the heart face to be a little bit smaller so you can either use a pencil to trace or go right in with your scissors i'm going to trim a bit off of my heart shape [Music] until i've reached the size that i like that looks good to me the leftover pieces can become their own projects the heart gets left behind even this piece it's a heart outline save those scraps for more valentine projects now i'm going to draw the face of my valentine friend first i place the eyes and glue them down if you don't have googly eyes don't worry you can always draw them or make them out of paper [Music] next i'm going to draw the smile i'm using my pencil first i start with a little dip like this under the eye then i go down and back up again with the same little scoop i like the shape so i go in with my black marker to make it permanent [Music] now we have a happy friend next i'm using my white paper to make the arms and legs i'll cut two long pieces for the legs [Music] i'm using the tip of my finger to measure about this much an inch that's about how wide i want the leg to be so i'll do the same with this piece now i turn my paper the other way where there will be shorter pieces i'm going to cut two shorter pieces for the arms [Music] now i'll take a leg piece and start to fold again i use my finger to kind of measure about an inch this much and fold back [Music] then i turn the piece over and fold back again i press on the fold so that it stays you can see we're starting to get a zigzag shape i turn it around and fold back push push push [Music] all my folded pieces stay together i turn it around and fold back flip it and fold it [Music] flip it fold it continue to flip and fold all the way down the leg piece flip and fold until you reach the very end now you've got a zigzag line i do the same thing for the other leg piece flip and fold flip and fold flip and fold boing it's the very same thing for the shorter arm pieces flip and fold flip and fold [Music] when they're all finished i'll place them where i want them you'll notice that you can push the zigzag pieces tighter to make a shorter leg or arm and pull to make it longer you decide the length you like then i'll use the glue to attach them [Music] the legs at the bottom [Music] pat pat pat push push push [Music] and the arm pieces here on the side [Music] now let's add the little heart hands and the little heart feet i'm using red paper i'm going to cut off a smaller piece like this save the rest for another project and i'm going to fold it long ways like this i need four hearts two hands and two feet again keep the fold on the side and draw half a little heart up and around slant it down just like that up and around slant it down [Music] remember not to cut through the fold just cut on that pencil mark i'll open it up and make sure that i like the size i do so i'm going to use the same shape as a stencil i'll press down and trace the outside with my pencil one more [Music] two more three more hearts all the same and now i cut them out [Music] careful to keep your fingers out of the way of your scissors if you don't have scissors made for small hands maybe you can ask a grown-up for help [Music] this piece would be great to reuse too i like to keep all of my scrap paper to use again and now it's time to glue on the hands and feet you just need a little glue on the ends of the arms and legs [Music] groovy you can stop right here and have a finished valentine friend or you can add a special message to the back whatever you decide i'm going in with a light pink colored paper i'm folding it in half just like last time i keep the fold on this side and i'm going to use the piece we cut out from before as a stencil i'm going to trace along the inside so i get that smaller sized heart that i trimmed out i hold the stencil down and trace then i cut out the heart shape open it up [Music] and i've got another fun scrap piece [Music] and look at that a perfect fit [Music] before i glue it i'm going to write my message with three different colored markers i'll start with purple let's write happy valentine's day we'll start with capital h three straight lines now i'll change colors and use pink for letter a [Music] next color red for letter p boing another letter p back to purple boing and back to pink for letter y oh we had a special visitor this is my cat ferdinand he's my valentine now where were we letter y [Music] happy now we're back to red for valentine's letter v a [Music] keep changing colors l [Music] red e boing purple n [Music] boing pink tea red i [Music] and a dot purple n [Music] boing pink e [Music] and just enough room for red s now we're going to add a little apostrophe for valentines right here between e and s last word day capital d boeing [Music] a pink a red y let's add an exclamation mark because we're celebrating happy valentine's day now let's glue it on [Music] pat pat pat make sure it's secure [Music] i love you now let's make a pop-up card for someone you love [Music] this card has a message on the front and opens up to reveal a pop-up heart for this project you'll need paper for the outside card and you'll need an assortment of colors for the inside pop-up hearts scissors glue a pencil and some markers or something to write with for your message now take a moment to gather your materials [Music] let's begin first i'm going to make the inside hearts to get this size of paper i used a full-sized paper and quartered it so you can get four pieces out of one paper to do that you can fold it this way and then this way and cut you'll get four pieces of the same size now with that smaller piece i'm going to fold it in half this way push down on the fold [Music] and i like to keep the fold on this side this is where i'll draw a small heart shape i'll draw up around and slant down right to the corner i'm drawing half a heart and cutting on my pencil line when i open up the paper the heart will be the same on both sides like this [Music] i'm happy with that size and shape so i'll move on from here in fact i'm going to use it as a stencil for the rest of the pieces i take another piece of the same color pink and do the same thing fold it in half keep the fold on the left side and this time i trace the same heart shape so that they're all the same [Music] there i cut it out [Music] i can even use this piece for another project for now i put it to the side these are the ones i'll use for the pop-up now i'm choosing a pale light pink color and doing the exact same thing fold it in half push on the fold too light pink i'll grab some purple and do the same two purple and now i'll use the same stencil to trace the same heart shape the fold is always on the same side and i just repeat trace around and now cut them all out they should all be the same size [Music] you can make four hearts six hearts eight hearts however many you [Music] decide i chose to go in and add two more hearts with red paper [Music] the more hearts you make the more pop your pop-up will have [Music] i ended up with eight hearts two of each color i lined them all up and now i'm ready to start gluing them together every heart has a fold in the middle we're going to be gluing the back side of one half to the back side of another half like this [Music] this is how we start building our pop-up i start with two colors only red and pink [Music] these sides will go together so i'll start gluing on the red side just one half just on the back and push them together [Music] line them up the best you can and now add a new color pink and light pink these two halves will go together i fold back the pink and add glue here just to this half just on the back and that half will meet with the light pink [Music] push together now we're starting to grow you repeat that for as many times as you want adding a new color or keeping it the same that depends on your choice fold back add your glue just one half and push together [Music] just like that i keep the other pieces separated just in case some extra glue got in there and there we've got a four heart pop-up i go back to my original card paper and fold it in half like this i want to see how my pop-up will look inside when you open it up you'll be able to glue the pop-up inside just like that [Music] you're welcome to stop here it'll look great but i decided to add even more colors so i repeated the same process add glue to the back just one half new color [Music] glue the half and put them together [Music] i go until all eight pieces are used [Music] and i line them up the best i can [Music] once they're all separated it looks like this [Music] now i can add them to the card i decided to cut my card into more of a square shape so i'm going to cut off about this much from the bottom i'm using a paper as a straight line [Music] now i'm going to add a message to the front i'm using a pink marker to create a border i'm just drawing little hills they kind of look like the tops of hearts add whatever design you like [Music] now we'll write i love you start here with the capital i [Music] and hear l o v e now y and an exclamation mark with a dot i love you it fits here on the front i'm going to glue it down [Music] and now i'm going to add the papa parts i'll get all the hearts folded over and closed up then i'll put glue on the outside heart on the back that side will go down first i'll center it and press down [Music] spread out all the other pop-up pieces and you'll be left with one more side to glue press down when you close up your card all the hearts get folded down again now let's write a message two capital t [Music] o and a colon that's two dots two u let's spell it y o [Music] from f now r [Music] me capital m [Music] e boeing to you from me you can also just add your name and add the name of the person it's for now i'll take another color and underline two and from [Music] i decided my card was just missing a little extra touch so i decided to draw some hearts using light purple and white to draw a heart start here go up and slant down go back to where you started and go up the other way and slant down to meet the other line it'll take some practice but i like the way it looks to have different sizes that are all hand drawn [Music] up and slant down other way slant down [Music] valentines is a great time to practice your heart drawing then cut them all out be careful around those fingers some of these i drew pretty small [Music] again when it comes to scissors you might want help from a grown-up [Music] i made some big and some small i liked different sizes but make them however you like then i chose where i wanted them to go and glued them down [Music] there a handmade pop-up card [Music] now let's make a valentine craft this heart tree using a hand print you make my heart grow let's make a valentine's tree you'll need a piece of paper some brown paint or brown paper and i'm using heart stickers of different colors and sizes if you don't have stickers well don't worry you can either draw different colors or use different colored paper with scissors glue and a marker to write with i'm using washable brown paint to create a hand print you can also trace your hand on a piece of brown paper you choose i pour a little paint out and i go to town on my hand [Music] oh it's a little cold [Music] get some help from a grown-up if you'd like to use paint i also go down onto my wrist a bit because this will be the trees trunk my fingers are the when you feel like you have enough paint i put down an extra piece of paper to catch the paint that went off the edge and make sure there's room at the top for your heart stickers then press hold still and get help to lightly tap all around your hand wrist and fingers to make sure that all the paint got on the paper you might have some empty spots like i did so you can go in with some extra finger paint and tap it on or press it on like i did now you're going to want to wait for that to dry completely mine took about 20 minutes to dry when you're ready you can add your hearts i quickly sorted mine into big hearts medium hearts and small hearts now these are my branches so i want to make sure that my hearts don't cover them completely and it's like they're the leaves of the tree so they're growing out the top of the branches i place my first heart here on the top of my thumb branch then i just keep going filling in the tree as i feel the design is completely up to you the colors you use the size of the hearts and the placement keep going until you're satisfied with your heart tree [Music] i made mine pretty big and full of love now let's write a message you make my heart grow now this message is pretty long so be careful with your spacing let's start with the word you capital y o u boeing now under here make boeing a k e boeing between words it helps to put a finger space my m bowing boing y heart h mowing e [Music] boing [Music] t [Music] last word we're running out of space let's try to make it a little bit smaller whoopsie letter g boeing r boeing o [Music] w exclamation point you make my heart grow down here i'll sign love capital l [Music] now a comma like this and you can add your name my name is bree b boeing boeing r boeing i hooray what a lovely tree [Music] thank you for writing and creating with me today friends you can
