how can you guarantee cheaper theme park tickets how can you enter a park that's already blocked out and when can you avoid the park pass reservation system all together don't click that purchase reservation questions today here on dfb guide [Music] hey everybody it's AJ for Disney food blog back in the day it was a bit easier for people trying to purchase Disney World tickets for impromptu trips but nowadays a lot of extra planning needs to happen before you're ready to commit to such a huge undertaking and that's why we're here today to help you make sure you're not buying the wrong Disney World tickets and to make sure you're making the right park path reservations all this info is going to be great to have on hand when you're finally ready to lock in your vacation and reservations so make sure to drop us your name and email at disneyfoodblog.com parktickets and we'll send you a full list of everything you need to know about Park tickets before you decide to buy we've even got a few extra tips on this digital list that you may want to know about too just as a free fun bonus for you Disney World tickets have gotten confusing y'all so this is where to get your Basics and your expert tips as well first those Basics before we get into all the Nitty Gritty details I want to make sure everyone's on the same page here so let's really quickly go over how you're going to buy Park tickets through the Disney World website if you're currently on the main page of the site click on the parks and tickets tab then scroll down to theme park tickets this will show you a standard theme park ticket option you can click continue to proceed with the purchase this is going to lead you to a page where there seems to be a lot going on but we'll explain some of the other options listed here in just a second for now scroll down select the number of days you're planning on being in the Parks and then scroll down to the ticket price calendar below again a lot is happening here but don't let it distract you from your mission switch over to the month you'll be taking your vacation then choose a start date for your visit after that you'll need to select a ticket type let's just choose the basic one Park per day for now scroll down further and you'll be asked to select the number of tickets you'll be needing to purchase for both the adults and kids in your party at the bottom of the page you'll receive your current Park ticket total if it looks right to you it'll be high don't get me wrong but if it looks right to you go ahead and click continue the next page will ask you if you want to go ahead and add Memory Maker to your tickets which gives you all the photo pass downloads you'll take like in the Parks during your trip now if you don't add Memory Maker right now that doesn't mean you won't get the chance later on if you change your mind but the big benefit of adding Memory Maker before your trip is that you'll save money on the package if you buy Memory Maker before you'll pay 169 dollars total for all your Disney picks but if you pay for it after your trip you'll have to pay 199 for the package instead whether you add on Memory Maker right then or not select continue and then you'll officially be at the checkout page which the website will direct you through from there so is buying tickets really that easy well let's say you're not just wanting to purchase the basic one Park per day tickets what if you're wanting to purchase a vacation package with your Disney hotel room and tickets included then you're gonna have to take a different approach I'm going to use Disney's Coronado Springs Resort as an example when you're on the main page for Coronado Springs tap over to the room rates tab here you're going to find a selection of all the different room types that will be available during your Trip's time frame but before you select a room check out that list of extra options directly above the room choices most commonly you'll always see two choices room and package if you're just planning on paying for the hotel and hotel only they call it a room only reservation so select room but if you want the package deal with your Park tickets included you can choose package guests will often choose this option simply because it feeds two birds with one scone you can get all your purchases out of the way in one go and other times these packages might actually help you save money on your ticket and hotel stay especially if there's a deal going on Via Disney World special offers deals and discounts page but sometimes you can save money by buying your room and your tickets separately again because maybe there's a room only discount happening over on the deals and discounts page so this is definitely something to do a little research on before you decide package or piecemeal now stay with me here because this next tip I'm going to tell you is so important if you actually want to save some money on your Disney vacation package which of course you do if you find a discount on the special offers deals and discounts page that works perfectly with your trip you will need to apply this discount yourself because Disney will not automatically do it for you when Disney's offering a special discount they'll list it as an option that you can select instead of the standard room and package options these will be labeled as special offers and if you want to use them you'll just simply have to click on one of those offers instead applying these discounts isn't hard but you got to remember to do it and if you don't remember no sweat you can still get that discount applied even after your purchase what you'll need to do is go back to the main page of the website and select my plans under the My Disney Experience tab scroll down to your vacation package reservation and click the modify reservation link right next to it you can also do this with a room only reservation if you find a room only discount this is going to allow you to update your vacation package or room to include any of those special offers you might have encountered after your purchase as long as they still apply if for some reason this method isn't doing it for you you can always call the Disney Resort hotel reservations line that's 407-939-1936 for some extra help and don't forget special offers are labeled as special for a reason because they're usually a limited time so even if you saw a special offer yesterday that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be around the next day if all of this sounds very confusing don't worry our friends over at Small World Vacations those are travel agents they do a great job of keeping an eye on these kind of exclusive deals for folks who don't have the time to sit on the Disney website and watch out for them all the time themselves so if you're looking for a certified Disney Travel Agent who works full-time as a Disney travel agent and can help you get the best savings possible for your vacation at no cost to you be sure to reach out to Small World Vacations for a quote I will link their info down in the description below okay we got all that Park ticket purchasing out of the way and we've got our hotel too if we want to do a package so we should be set and ready to go right not so fast now we're on to part two the park pass reservation step the park pass system is a mandatory step introduced to the Disney scene after the 2020 closures guests basically have to complete this in order to visit any of the four Disney World theme parks you can't go to the parks anymore with just a ticket you have to have both the ticket and a park pass think of it like saving your seat for a Broadway performance much like you have to pick the show you want to watch and which day you want to watch it on park pass reservations ask you to select a park in which day you want to visit it but how do you make these park pass reservations first and foremost you must have already purchased your theme park tickets before where you can make a reservation once you make sure that your valid Theme Park admission is linked to your My Disney Experience account the Disney website should already be prompting you to go ahead and make those park pass reservations right away because they don't want you to forget they don't want you to show up at the Park and not be able to get in because you don't have a reservation you can also find the link to make park pass reservations under the My Disney Experience tab from there just click theme park reservations once the park pass reservations page opens up select a date from the available options on the calendar select the park you want to visit confirm your plans then wash rinse repeat warning though do not take this second step for granted it's a pretty straightforward procedure and doesn't cost you anything extra but if you skip it it will not matter if you bought those theme park tickets months in advance you will not be able to enter any of the parks without those reservations so just make them don't put them off speaking of the earlier you make the reservations the better you know how some Broadway shows sell out faster than others that's also the case with park pass reservations during busier times of the year like during those specialty three-day weekends or Spring Break season in March and April and end of the year holidays particularly the week of Thanksgiving and Christmas we tend to see park pass reservations fill up fast let's head to the park pass availability page on the Disney website so you can see what I'm dealing with here there are three color schemes you can potentially find on each Park day green means you're free to make park pass reservation for any park yellow means that select Parks have already been booked solid but others may still be available you can tap on the calendar day highlighted in yellow to find out what's still available and gray means there are no more park pass reservations whatsoever and when that happens you know those parks are going to be packed more often than not you'll find that Magic Kingdom tends to book up faster than the other parks while Disney's Animal Kingdom is the park with more frequent last minute availability at any rate it's better for you to book your park pass reservations at least a few months before your trip just to make sure you have them all secured and don't worry you don't have to purchase theme park tickets and wonder if they're still available ability for the parks you're buying them for when you're going to buy your tickets and you're on the page where you need to choose the number of days the number of guests Etc the very top of the page before you get to any of the park ticket details has a link to the park pass reservation calendar you can look over it beforehand to make sure your days in your parks are still available now how about that dreaded yellow warning nothing sinks your heart faster while planning a Disney World vacation then when you click on the theme park reservation page and see the dates you're planning on visiting all highlighted in yellow what makes matters even worse is if that yellow is all for the same park you were wanting to prioritize probably Magic Kingdom so what are you gonna do even if park pass availability isn't showing up now that doesn't mean more availability won't pop up later this happens all the time keep checking the park pass availability calendar on the Disney World website leading up to your trip we mean months weeks and even days leading up to your trip just keep checking it let's say you planned a Disney trip and weren't able to get a Magic Kingdom reservation so you booked a Hollywood Studios one instead but right before your trip you notice some availability in Magic Kingdom if that happens you can absolutely modify your reservation and switch it to the park you'd rather go to we've also seen Disney release more park passes on sold out days in order to let more people into the parks we actually saw this happen during the 2020 22 holiday season a lot Magic Kingdom was sold out throughout Christmas week and then bam Disney released more park passes allowing more guests to come and enjoy the parks this happened multiple times you can modify reservations in the same place you can make reservations under the My Disney Experience tab via the theme park reservations option don't lose hope keep checking Also let's go back to the theme park reservation calendar because there's an important feature I don't want you to miss that could make the difference between getting that reservation you want and not getting it there are actually three different park pass reservation calendars for you to browse the first is for standard theme park tickets the second is for those who are staying at a Disney World hotel and the third is for annual pass holders only unless you're an annual pass holder you won't have any need for that third option but if you book both a Disney Resort and park tickets then you'll be able to check out both the select resort reservation calendar and the standard theme park ticket calendar while you're browsing park pass availability sometime you just might find that one calendar has availability that the other one doesn't have and vice versa usually find that they open open up the most availability for people who have hotel reservations but sometimes that's different park pass for how you're going to hold on to them there are three different ways you can hold on to your tickets and reservations the first is the traditional way with a key to the world card the key to the world card is basically a plastic card that's got a cute Disney character slapped onto the front of it and these bad boys are totally free to use and all you got to do is get your hands on one by requesting them at the front desk at a Disney World Resort hotel or over at Guest Relations before entering one of the theme parks these cards can be connected to your My Disney Experience profile and they can allow you to successfully scan into the parks and also unlock your Disney hotel room door connect your photo pass pictures that you take around the parks and even work as a second payment method if you connect your credit card information to your Disney Resort ahead of time the second way you can hold only your ticket info is still free but a bit more high tech and that's your magic mobile option magic Mobile's digital service essentially turns your phone into your key to the world card through the My Disney Experience app you can find these tickets and reservations by tapping on the little hamburger menu button at the right hand corner of your screen and Disney Magic Mobile should be the third option down next to your future plans you'll be able to customize your magic mobile pass in the app where you'll even get to pick a fun design for it and then you'll be able to add that magic mobile pass to your digital wallet on your phone like apple wallet for those Apple phones for instance once you've done that you can pull up that pass on your digital wallet when you need to scan into the parks by the way don't forget to enable Bluetooth to get it all working correctly now the main difference between Magic Mobile and the physical key to the world card aside from one being digital and one being you know physical is that magic mobile can be used to automatically link your on-ride photo pass photos to your My Disney Experience account too meanwhile a key to the world card does not work with the automatic photo linking feature instead you'll need to scan your physical card to those appropriate photo pass touch points with your PhotoPass photographer or at the picture preview sections after you ride an attraction that takes in-ride photos like Expedition Everest and Animal Kingdom or Tower of Terror in Hollywood Studios it's not a huge game changer either way but Magic Mobile does make sure you're gonna get all those photos you take all day long whether you want them on your app or not and then there's the third premium option magic bands or MagicBand plus magic bands are these Nifty little wristband accessories that basically do everything the key to the world cards and Magic Mobile features can do and then some magic bands are equipped with RFID technology which can help you further immerse yourself in the different lands and rides around the parks for example you might see your name pop up in the Expedition Everest queue through the different digital advertisements on display or you might receive a personal farewell from the It's a Small World dolls after your happiest little Cruise wraps up to be honest it's a little creepy not gonna lie and if you decide to get really high tech and upgrade to a Magic Band plus then the immersiveness expands your band can light up in sync with the fireworks shows or allow you to take part in specialty games like you can do over in Galaxy's edge with the bat 2 Bounty Hunter scavenger hunt as you track down bounties there your band will light up and vibrate to let you know when you've steered off course and when your bounty's getting warmer not to mention the magic bands just make for an all-around cute souvenir like a pair of mini ears they come in all sorts of colors and designs from the most basic patterns to the most out there limited edition character designs and if you plan on going to Disney World again later on you don't have to buy a whole other band if you don't want to you can always use your same Magic Band to hold your cards in info every single time you go but I've got to bring it back around to the main argument against these bands the cost for a key to the world card in Magic Mobile you don't have to pay an extra Cent to use them meanwhile Magic Band and Magic Band plus prices vary the cheapest magic and option you've got is the solid color choice for around 20 bucks while the most expensive Magic Band plus options with those specialty designs can get as high as 45 or more per band that means a family of four could end up having to pay an extra 80 to 180 dollars just for Magic bands alone and the most painful part these used to be free grand it's hard to accessorize with the free ticket holder options and you'll miss out on the fun interactive checkpoints when you go the free Route 2 but then again these other options are free and anywhere you might be able to save a buck or two or 80 could end up being a better deal for you you'll just have to talk it over with your group to see if the extra investment before your trip is really going to be worth all the extra dough okay time to talk talk about the difference between Park Hoppers since we're starting to talk about Park ticket add-ons and extra expenses now's just as good a time as I need to bring up the other Park ticket options you can potentially purchase Park Hoppers and park hopper pluses a park hopper ticket it's hard to say park hopper just so you know I keep saying it and messing it up a park hopper ticket gives you the ability to visit more than one park in a single go which can be great for those who only have a limited number of days in Disney World to cover as much ground as possible I also like to get Park Hoppers so that I have choices so even though you do have to start your day in the park you made a reservation for you can hop over to any other Park starting at 2PM and how you park hop is completely up to you you could visit one other Park two other Parks maybe you want to attempt to visit all four parks in one day that is a thousand percent possible but you may spend a lot of time traveling instead of being in the Parks themselves but hey that's up to you park hopper price start at 65 extra on top of your regular Theme Park ticket price that are liable to be more expensive during busier times of the year yep that's right Park Hoppers are now surge priced and then you have the park hopper plus option for an extra cost starting at around 85 on top of your standard Park ticket but again surge priced you can hop around from park to park and visit one of the Disney water parks I.E Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach or another Disney Experience which usually involves golf mini golf foot golf or a visit to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex you'll get a certain number of visits to these extra Disney World activities based on the length of your ticket so a two day ticket will get you two visits a four day ticket will get you four visits Etc now this park hopper plus option is only going to be a good deal for you if a you were already planning on visiting one of the Disney water parks and B if you were already planning on Park hopping during your visit otherwise it's not best to pay for this most expensive ticket if you're not planning on getting full use out of it it's also not worth adding on if you're only planning on using it for one of the mini golf courses like Winter Summerland or Fantasia Gardens not to say these mini golf courses aren't fun but they only cost 14 per adult 12 per kid so no the extra park hopper plus which is going to cost you 85 bucks is not going to be worth a rousing round of Putt-Putt when you could have just paid for a game separately for way cheaper now are you ready to party because we are there'll be times throughout the year when Disney will offer after hours events over at Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios in Epcot for certain nights you'll be able to buy tickets to enter these Parks as early as 7 pm and stay in the Parks three hours after they close for everyone else meaning you'll be able to conquer so many rides in a single go without having to worry about massive crowds everywhere you turn since these events will be capped off at a certain number of guests to guarantee crowd levels will stay low you'll also get free snacks throughout the night at after hours parties like popcorn Mickey premium ice cream bars and sodas similarly Magic Kingdom specifically has after hours parties toward the end of the year like Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas party which will not only give you the chance to ride a ton of rides with fewer crowds like the after hours events do but you'll also be able to participate in fun festive holiday Shenanigans like trick-or-treating or watching specialty parades and Fireworks shows or dancing in snoped down Main Street USA these particular events also let you get in with your party ticket at 4 pm instead of 7 P.M the thing about these events and parties is that they can often cost the same amount or more than a regular theme park ticket for the day but I'm not saying those prices aren't worth it what I am saying is that things can get awfully expensive if you decide to buy both a day ticket and an evening event ticket as in double the amount you'd normally pay for a standard visit to the parks the good news you don't have to pay for both ticket types if you don't want to if you'd rather stick with seeing the parks during the day then just purchase the regular theme park ticket but if you'd rather check out the party scene and skip skip the daytime Park visit altogether then stick with an after hours ticket this time around and if you really do want to experience the parks both during the day and at night especially when you're not planning on returning to Disney World anytime soon then don't let me stop you there are no wrong answers here it just depends on what you and your travel group decide to land on now after hours parties can be a great replacement for a daytime ticket because during those events you don't have to deal with the crowds you don't have to deal with the oppressive heat you don't have to fight the battle with Disney Genie plus so there are a lot of benefits to choosing an after hours event or a specialty event party instead of going during the day especially in the middle of the summer this next tip is very very important you're not going to want to buy Park tickets for a time when your trip is still very much up in the air because Park tickets do have a shelf life but park tickets don't always expire Once Upon a Time you could buy a ticket and use it anytime whether it be three days from your purchase or three years from your purchase or 30 years from your purchase but nowadays Disney's a bit more strict on when you can and can't use that Park to get you paid for a park tickets lifespan ranges between 1 and 10 days from the date you selected and depending on how many days you choose to visit the parks will determine how long your ticket's lifespan is let's look at the August 2023 calendar for example let's say I chose a start date of August 13th if I want to buy a two-day Park ticket I can use those tickets during a span of four days between August 13th to August 16th but if I wanted to buy a four-day Park ticket I can use those tickets during a span of seven days between August 13th to August 19th you get the picture the fewer Park ticket days you choose the shorter your time frame to use them and the more tickets you choose the longer your time frame extends let's say you choose a park ticket time frame but ended up needing to bump up your vacation by a few weeks or maybe even bump it back by a few weeks as long as you haven't reached the starting point of your original ticket range you're more than welcome to modify these tickets as needed to change those dates go to your My Disney Experience account select my plans and then select change tickets from here you'll be given a few different options including modifying your ticket type changing your ticket options or changing your trip dates the Disney World website does state that if there's a difference between the prices for the new ticket dates versus the ones you chose originally you'll have to pay that difference when you finish making your changes and one more side note before you absolutely 110 percent decide to change your ticket dates don't forget to double check that park pass reservation calendar if you've already made park pass reservations for the original ticket days they will not carry over to when you modify your trip dates so you will need to make reservations all over again but back to talking about your Park tickets lifespan the important thing to take note of here is that Disney is going to give you more days to use those tickets than you actually are going to need and that can work to your advantage in multiple ways first off you don't have to use Park tickets consecutively so if you buy those four day park tickets starting August 13th you can split those Parks up however you see fit you can use those tickets all at once or you can space them out maybe use two Park days on August 13th and 14th take a two day break and then use the other two on the 17th and 18th or you can choose the 13th as your start date and still settle on using those tickets at the tail end of your Park ticket lifespan from the 16th to the 19th instead which leads me to the second Advantage this ticket price range gives you you can choose the cheaper ticket range the amount you pay for your Park tickets all depends on the starting date you select let's look at August again on those dates ranging between August 13th to August 19th for our four days worth of Park tickets notice how every day on the calendar shows a different price point so if I select August 13th as my start date it doesn't matter what other prices in that ticket range say I will pay that 125 dollars as listed on August 13th for every single one of my four day tickets but is that really going to give me the cheapest ticket option available take a look at that range again if I were to have chosen my starting date as August 16th the ticket price drops down to 123 dollars per ticket sure my seven day ticket range would shift a bit if I chose this date instead but I'd still have August 16th to 19th in my visiting range like I had before or if you had even more flexibility with your schedule you could possibly select your starting date for August 20th which features the cheapest four day park days of the month priced at 114 it just takes some playing around with not only the park ticket calendar but also your own trip schedule how much flexibility for your triple you have and which ticket starting date is going to help you save the most money during your vacations time frame it costs you nothing to experiment and Disney doesn't hide the different ticket prices from you so you can totally check these prices at any time to find out which starting dates will have the most expensive tickets and which will save you some dollars next you've got those single day tickets which come in and mess every everything up just kidding but not really back in December Disney World switched over their one day one park tickets to have Park specific pricing normally if you're paying for at least two days worth of Park tickets all you've got to worry about are the prices fluctuating by day much like we saw with our August example if I were to buy Park tickets starting the 13th I'd be paying 125 for all my Park tickets no matter which Parks I chose to visit however one day one park tickets now not only have prices that fluctuate depending on the day and season but also based on which Park you want to go to so let's say I only wanted to visit one park on August 13th and do other things in Orlando during the rest of my vacation like check out Universal Studios or go to a wax museum or drive a bit further and chill in one of the beaches these are the prices per Park that I can expect to pay animal kingdom is the cheapest at 134 dollars next you've got Epcot at 139 Hollywood Studios is 144 for that day and finally you've got your most expensive option Magic Kingdom at a 149 dollars for that one day one of the good things however that comes with buying a one day Park ticket is that you're not going to have to worry about taking an extra step to make a park pass reservation and that's because park passes automatically come with those single day single Park tickets after all if you're paying a park based price then that Park is obviously open for the day but let me throw a hypothetical situation your way let's say you pay for a one day Park ticket to Epcot but your group changes their mind later on and decides they want to spend that single day in Hollywood Studios instead what happens then I mean you've already paid the price for an Epcot ticket and you have the reservation in place so does that mean you're stuck no you're not you can still make adjustments as long as park pass reservations are still available for the park you want to switch to but you'll probably need to reach out to Guest Services by phone at 407-939-1289 or you can email your ticket questions at ticket.inquiries at disneyworld.com just keep in mind that if you're switching to a park that was set at a higher price originally you will need to pay the difference after you successfully switch over so since you don't need to make park pass reservations for single day tickets because they're automatically applied are there any other exceptions to the park pass reservation rule just a few but yes they're starting to materialize more and more as of late first and foremost you do not have to worry about making park pass reservations for the parks you hop to each day so if you made a park pass reservation for say Epcot you do not have to make a reservation for the next Park you hop to after 2 p.m so you can just take a Skyliner ride on over to Hollywood Studios no reservation necessary hold on to this point because I'm going to speak more about it in the next one it could end up being your biggest secret weapon yet now speaking of 2PM if you're an annual pass holder and this is brand new y'all you no longer need to make reservations for the parks if you're planning on visiting them after 2 pm the only exception to this rule is Magic Kingdom on the weekends for which you'll still need to make a park pass reservation so let me repeat that if you're an annual annual pass holder and you're just going to your first Park after 2 p.m like you get out of work and you're going to go to Epcot at four o'clock you don't need a park pass reservation for that Park unless it's Magic Kingdom and a weekend got it okay Disney's after hours events and Magic Kingdoms after hours parties also do not require any sort of park pass reservation but your event slash party ticket won't get you into the park until three hours before the festivities kick off so like I mentioned earlier if you want to visit one of the parks during the day you will have to invest in a regular Park ticket and make a park pass reservation along with it finally there's no need to worry about making any sort of park pass reservation for places like Disney Springs the Disney water parks the hotels or Galactic star Cruiser because once you're in you're in and remember that point we said to hold on to let's talk about Park hopping there may come a time when you really want to go to Magic Kingdom on a certain day but it just so happens that all the park pass reservations have been snatched up and nothing is coming up for you maybe you keep clicking back on the website to see if any more park pass reservations happen to reappear or maybe you're religiously checking on other park pass reservation calendars for last minute availability and nothing budges not even a little bit don't lose hope you may not be completely out of luck yet this trip could prove to be the perfect time to invest in a park hopper add-on remember how I said you don't have to make a park pass reservation for the second Park of the day that you hop to and can you already see where I'm going with this if you go ahead and grab a park pass reservation for one of the parks that still has availability usually animal kingdom is a pretty safe bet you can still potentially Park hop over to Magic Kingdom after 2 pm and still get in despite reservations being blocked out on the calendar now there's a key word in that sentence that I need you to take very very seriously and that is potentially just because you have a park hopper does not mean you're guaranteed this method will work if Magic Kingdom is just flat out filled to the brim after 2 pm I mean would you really want to check out the park when it's that crowded anyways but it's always best to call guest relations at 407-560-5000 to double check A Park's current capacity before traveling all the way over and testing it out yourself but if you're already at said Park you can go to guest relations to directly and ask them about the current crowd situation for the most part you should be able to park hop over to Magic Kingdom just fine but during those rare occasions when Magic Kingdom fills up solid for the day other Parks should still be more than happy to welcome you through their gates after 2 pm call it intuition but I can almost guarantee you that all the different ways we navigate buying Disney World Park tickets and making those park pass reservations are not done switching things up on us yet so don't forget to keep checking back here and on our dfb website for all the latest Disney news and updates to come and don't forget to drop us your email at disneyfoodblog.com parktickets for a full list of Park ticket tips that you can keep by your side as you go lock in the details of your future Disney World vacation I hope this has been helpful we love to do some Basics content every once in a while because even the basic stuff can be very involved and difficult at times and even if you are a theme park expert if you haven't been to Disney World in a couple of years lots of stuff has changed thanks for listening everyone and thanks for watching as always AJ for Disney food blog and we'll see you real soon [Music]
