How to Make Southern "Crowd Pleasing" Potato Salad

hi guys today on Dimas in cook we are making my favorite potato salad and fer it's creamy it's delicious and is a true crowd-pleaser so let's go alright so the first thing we're gonna do is peel our potatoes I've already washed them so they're ready to go I'm using russet potatoes because you know that's how I get down but you can use Yukon Gold if you want to right potatoes but yeah russet for me is the way to go I'm gonna go ahead and slice them into little tiny cute little cubes like this right here you don't want to have big chunks I don't like this like thats a little small tiny pieces so good okay that's perfect you can put some water on top if you want to now I have my water and a skillet already boiling a little bit I'm gonna add my potatoes into the water just like this right well my water was boiling what happened to it like you just thought whoa okay now I'm gonna add some black pepper to this water I'm gonna add a little bit of pink salts okay I won because water to be kind of seasoned up I didn't want to use a broth but yeah I did want to make sure my water was nicely seasoned Haskin green onion flakes going in there because yes yes yes so good alright now we're going to go ahead and just simmer this very very gently just until those potatoes are nice and tender alright this doesn't take long at all you guys so yeah keep an eye on it because we don't want no mashed potatoes okay so don't overcook them this right here is perfect sure and look at that they're still nice and firm but yet if I mashed them between my fingers it will break easily that's like the perfect texture for a potato salad now I'm trying to say a real proper like potato salad but normally I'm like tater salad but I want people saying oh my gosh what is it eight Oh what is she talking about now we're gonna place this into the fridge and let it cool off you want these potatoes to be cold before you bring everything so gal ah okay while those potatoes are cooling off in the fridge go ahead and make you some little heart both eggs I use um eight because I love a lot of eggs in my potato salad tastes so good but yeah go ahead and dice if I have my yolks in a bowl then we're gonna go ahead and dice up my egg wise into little cute pieces just like that place them right on into that bowl now I should have mashed up my egg yolks before I add it my egg whites but we're just gonna pretend like I did that using my spatula here to kind of break up those egg yolks just like I love saying that just like that I see it a lot I know now I'm adding in some white onions diced up really fine I'm gonna add in my sweet relish make sure you use a good brand of sweet relish go to the farmers market if you can okay and next I'm gonna add in some minutes oh my gosh you guys guess what kind of mayonnaise I'm using you're never going to believe this Hellmann's what is this we OTO the real southern cooks use dukes are homemade I am such a dupes girl but there is a reason why I stopped using dukes in my potato salads at my deviled eggs goes my blog and I'll tell you why but yeah can you believe it I don't know crazy okay now I'm adding in a little bit of mustard we're gonna stir this own up and it's looking really good just like this it's almost ready for our potatoes all right there's our chill pills they're going in and when your children really just yeah you gotta chill them guys don't do it hot cuz then you have mashed potatoes we don't want they I always chill them first all right all right so I've dumped my potatoes in they're gonna finish up with the rest of them just like that I'm gonna stir this up now as I am stirring this mixture up I'm kind of pressed and getting a little bit to kind of break up some of those potatoes and that'll make that sauce all creamy and stuff it'll give it that really really good texture so go ahead and stir up a little bit my voice I'm losing my voice you guys alright so now we're going to season it up add some black pepper add some salt and then we're gonna taste taste taste taste taste let me tell you screw a recipe when it comes to potato salad forget the recipe get the basics down and then use your taste buds okay just season it up taste it a little bit more mayonnaise taste it add some more um relish mustard you know whatever trust your taste buds when it comes to making potatoes I promise you you will not go wrong all right and then once it tastes like somebody's grandma from a church made it go ahead and place it into your little casserole dish isn't this casserole dish so cute oh my god I love it I got it from like wacky it's from like Ross and Marshall some clothes out sort of so cute okay now I'm gonna garnish the top with some smoked paprika you can use regular if you don't want to smoke kind just go and sprinkle that on and then like to add on some more black pepper I like black pepper a lot of white pepper and then I add on some onion flakes for color you can also use parsley but if you want to place it in the fridge for at least three hours or overnight we're going to put ten like it's been overnight because that's usually what I do but actually it's being like one hour on this video but it was still very very very good okay all right so now you're gonna serve it on up on nice and creamy and luscious you have to have like some grilled ribs or some grilled chicken let's head
