well that looks delicious hello welcome to waypoint survival today let's make some hobo coffee stay tuned [Music] all right so the first thing we want to do is want to take our billy can off of the bundle stick and then remove the hook and this is just the wire hook that i've been around to make carrying it a lot easier and also to grab things if i don't want to stoop over and pick things up so just kind of a nice little handy gadget on the end of the stick and it's just into this notch all right next we got to untie this all right there we go now we don't have to untie the whole thing we can leave it knotted in the center of course we have our our tin coffee cup here and we'll set that aside and then we've got our master barlow knife harmonica a little pocket pal and the honor got our spoon of course that's always important and then our church key and bottle opener and extra pair of socks which can be used for just a whole lot of things also we have our grinding stick boy scout knife box of matches and then a little tin that does not have cloves in it but this actually has coffee beans now you could carry ground coffee if you wish but we're going to do things the old-fashioned way so what we're going to do is we're going to measure about a tablespoon of coffee beans and doesn't have to be perfect just just an approximation we've got a few extra but that's fine we'll put those down in the bottom of our cup like this and of course we're going to try to be very judicious because this needs to last us for a while till we can get to the next place and resupply then we take our grinding stick which is just a piece of maple that is rounded off at the ends and we're going to crush the beans now it's going to take just a little while but i'll do that and get back to you because i'm sure you've seen coffee beans crushed or ground before all right so after you've crushed up most of the big stuff then what you want to do is you want to take it you want to go around like this and you want to use the side of the stick to grind it even finer and what that does is that puts the thicker stuff in the middle and then you're able to crush that a little bit better and then back to your circular grinding motion now if you really wanted to be efficient you could do this with your bundle stick but it's kind of long and makes it sort of unhandy and so like i said once you do that you can just crush this and you wouldn't have to carry this with you it's just a small and fairly handy so i like to keep it in the bundle all right there we go pretty well ground up and now let's make some coffee so what we're going to do is we're going to use our cloth here and we're gonna put the coffee in here right in the center make sure we scrape this out all right set the cup aside for now and there you can see we have the grounds right down in the middle all right now what i'm going to do is i'm going to very carefully make a packet out of this just like this and i'm going to twist it okay and that is going to be my coffee packet now you can tie a string around this and that's going to help you a lot when you start cooking but you want to make sure as you're cooking or boiling your coffee you want to make sure that whatever string you use doesn't have any oils in it so you want to be careful about using something that like a hemp rope or some other cord that might have a natural oil a cotton string works best of course you don't have to do that you can stick it in just like this and that'll work fine all right next we're going to put some water in and we'll use our bottle here it's just a denim bottle with a leather cord carry like a canteen and i did burn out the interior plastic of this can you should always do that if you're going to cook in these cans because they have a plastic lining they haven't used bpa in them for some time but even though it doesn't have a bpa coating there is still a plastic polymer and you don't want to be drinking or using that in your cookware all right there we go and let's put it on our cooker and here we go right over the flame just like that and we're going to get that heated up and then we'll put our coffee inside and if you want to know how i made this hobo heater i'll put a link to it right up here all right the water's heating up and what i did was i just took a little bit of a thread and tied it around here and made it easy to take on and off but that's going to help hold that coffee that i ground into the bowl and then we're just going to set it inside just like this and of course try to keep your hobo hanky out of the flames if you set it right it'll set just in top like that and you won't have any problem with the flames catching your cloth on fire and there's our hobo coffee starting to steam looking forward to drinking a nice hot cup it's quite chilly out today all right so our hobo coffee is done nice and warmed up grab this very carefully it's hot all right put the rest of it back in there so it can stay warm now i could have left it in longer it would have gotten darker but i wanted to do this and get it done for the sake of the video all right let's check it out oh that looks delicious could have been a little stronger but it's nice warms me up and it's pretty efficient way to make coffee appreciate you watching this video hope you've enjoyed this little
