How to make charcoal in your backyard

have you ever wondered how to make charcoal I mean a bag is what 10 20 bucks for a 40 pound bag will stick with me I'll show you how I make some charcoal so we fill this all up with similar wood this is like a blond Mesquite this is some shoestring acacia which is still a little green but I think just for giggles we'll throw in a piece of pine [Music] so now that we're all sealed up and sealed off this is gonna be the bottom this is gonna be flipped over and placed on there and that's kind of our burner put wood in there and just scrap wood here pine whatever scraps we have the heat will then heat this up here and if you notice the holes right in here that it drilled these holes will all the gases there in the wood that are super heating will then push out through here and it'll be like a blowtorch like right here that blowtorch effect I believe is called gasification and it's also called pyrolysis it's an imperfect burn basically you need three things to burn for combustion oxygen fuel and heat the we've taken away the oxygen or the majority of the oxygen getting into the wood so we have heat and we have fuel and that creates the gases to superheat and force themselves out of the wood when they're forced out of the wood they then go in here remember it's upside down and it shoots off like you see in that like the rocket stove so my charcoal retort has been sitting for a few days I had work couple overtime shifts and didn't have time to get out out the next morning so it's been sitting for two and a half three days so let's break into it see what's going on [Music] [Music] charcoal I thought there'd be a lot more than this maybe just all burned away I still have some wood in it you look right there so some of these still have wood in them they may need to make smaller pieces next time that's a good piece that barely has me so there's another quick video of how to I did some charcoal burned out a little a little bit more ash than I thought it would maybe I'll have to try to figure out how to close it up so it wasn't burn so much or maybe not burn it so long but I hope you enjoyed that like and subscribe if you have any questions or comments post them right below a wonderful afternoon wonderful holiday season adios
