[Music] welcome back to the chill swings kitchen since it's almost cinco de mayo i thought it'd be really fun to make a chocolate cake so for this we only need two cake layers and we're going to be cutting these in half and stacking them vertically to make our taco so i'm going to go ahead and zoom into this and see how we're assembling our layers and then we'll be going on all the decorations so for our shell we're going to be using our vanilla cake layer and we're going to be cutting it in half and it's important that you measure out so you know that you're cutting perfectly in half because these need to be symmetrical otherwise when you stack them they will not be even and will be hard to get a nice symmetrical looking taco go ahead and break this open and we're going to be stacking these vertically just like that so our two taco layers are pretty even now we're going to cut our chocolate layer in half and that's going to go in between our two vanilla layers so i'm actually going to start by doing the center and then we're going to work our way out so i'm going to secure our chocolate cake layer to the center of our cake round with a little bit of buttercream we're then going to cover it and this is much easier to do if you use piping bags but you don't have to do that you can use an offset spatula if you don't have any bakes and it's really great if you chill your cake layers ahead of time that helps the frosting stick to the layers better so i highly recommend doing that as well so now i'm just going to go ahead and smooth out with a small offset spatula and i'm going to be very gentle as i do this so i don't move the cake layer too much or tip it over if you guys want to see the tutorial and recipe for my classic american buttercream you can click on the link above which shows you exactly how i make my frosting it doesn't have to be perfect since it's going to be covered by the other layers but you do want an even amount of frosting so just try to get it nice and level all around the cake there so next we're going to add our vanilla cake layers we're going to go ahead and just position them flush against the chocolate cake layer and we're going to press them in we're going to go ahead and add some of our yellow buttercream and i'm making sure the smooth side of this frosting tip is facing out [Music] so this just is a really easy way to get some great even coverage across your cake layers but again if you don't have a tip like this you can totally just use an offset spatula all right so now that we've got a lot of frosting on there we're going to go ahead and smooth it out so once we have an even layer of buttercream on our cake layers we're gonna go ahead and chill this so that our frosting can set so now that our cake has been in the freezer for about five minutes and the frosting is nice and firm to the touch we're gonna go ahead and apply a second layer of frosting so i'm not gonna apply a really thick second layer but we're just going to try to get it a little bit smoother so i'm just going to use a little bit here and another piping bag that has a slightly smaller tip so again we don't need a ton of frosting here we really just want to be able to cover any spots where we had a little bit of cake peeking out so now we're using the same technique as before we're just going to gently smooth using a small offset spatula so once we've smoothed out our second layer of frosting we're going to go ahead and pipe just a little bit of our chocolate layer and that's going to be the bottom of the taco shell now to get really smooth sides we're just going to use a bench scraper and we're going to go ahead and scrape the side of the cake and as we're doing that you want to be really careful not to scrape around the edge because you don't want to expose any of the underlying cake i'm also just going to very gently run along the top to really smooth out the top of the shelf so now that our cake is fully frosted we're going to start by adding our ground beef and for that i have taken some of our chocolate frosting about a third of a cup and i've added in also about half a cup of crushed oreos i've mixed those together to give us a really great consistency and i'm gonna gently spoon it into the bottom part of our taco shell i'm gonna go ahead and compact it onto a spoon and then i'm going to gently place it on our cake and that way we don't get a bunch of crushed oreos all over our frosting [Music] so we're now going to use the remaining filling to fill in the whole top since we're going to be covering the top with some green frosting to the lettuce and sour cream this step is optional but it really will give a great texture so it's nice that every bite will include a little bit of oreo now that we have all of our ground beef on it's time to add on some of our lettuce so i have here a wilton 103 tip and i've added some green buttercream to a piping bay and we're going to go ahead and make some ribbons on top of our taco to look like lettuce i'm not going to make this one continuous motion because i do want it to look like pieces of shredded lettuce so you can just have fun with this so yeah it looks pretty good for our lettuce next up we're going to add some of our cheese and for our cheese i have taken some shredded coconut in a bag and i've added some yellow and orange food coloring and i shook it to color the coconut so we're now going to add this on top of our lettuce and as we're adding this we're going to kind of gently press down to make sure that it's nice and secure on top of that frosting so we're next going to add our tomatoes and i've cut out some squares of fondant and we're just going to be placing those randomly in the lips and the last step for our taco cake is add a little bit of sour cream we're just going to add one big dollop to the center and just like that our taco cake is complete [Music] if you enjoyed this video be sure to click cake [Music] you
