what's the common thread between this artsy gem or this one or even this one they're all iconic album covers okay maybe not the last one so much but hey I have a question for you can we crank up the AI and whip up a masterpiece like these and that's exactly what we're going to see in today's video so welcome to [Music] let's travel back in time way back between 1910 and 1938 records came in plain brown envelope-like sleeves with just the record company's name on them no fancy browsing back then folks you'd find these vinyl gems in electrical stores and it was all about knowing what you wanted and asking the salesperson to hook you up wild right so 1938 rolls around and Columbia records has this bright idea to hire Alex steinweiss as their very first art director this guy steinwise is The Mastermind who revolutionized album covers as we know him today by the late 1940s other big shot labels joined the party rocking paper covers with original designs then albums started to mean those 12-inch LPS you know the long playing ones that spin at 33 and one-third revolutions per minute fast forward to The Swinging 50s and that's when this style became the thing for albums pretty rad huh this game-changing notion lets artists show off their creative chops in more ways than just their music a bunch of the all-time coolest album covers come straight from the post-war Jazz and Bebop explosion enter Jim Flora this artsy dude who studied at the Chicago Art Academy and dipped his toes in the ad world before he totally rocked RCA Victor's art Department in the sizzling 50s wait a second is this some kind of graphic design history Party come on where's the artificial intelligence here yeah all I need is a stunning cover art for my jam on Spotify alright alright I hear you you see diving into the history of a certain art form is the key to unlocking fresh ideas sparking inspiration and figuring out the origin of things and their whys and yes the plan is to harness the power of AI tools to craft our very own cover arts and you know what we'll be rocking those text to image apps to make it happen every day we're seeing rad new tools like Dolly 2 stable diffusion mid-journey and a bunch more in the market they're all pretty similar just throw in a prompt and voila you've got yourself an image easy as pie right hey harmonica hero here how about an album cover for my tune aha gotcha I dig the idea let's say you want the image for your song or album inspired by a Pioneer like Jim Flora in his style let's say we go with mid-journey so we'd use a prompt like harmonica album cover in the style of gym Flora let's see what kind of Awesomeness mid-journey whips up for us no way nope that's not the gym Flora Vibe we're looking for oh totally but the real Secret Sauce here is all about the prompt you see we might need to level up our prompts and that means mastering the art of promptology yep it's a fresh skill we artists have to embrace because before you know it nailing the perfect prompt will be the name of the game prompt to text prompt to images prompt to music prompt to steak and fries so if we want to pay tribute to Jim Flora in our cover art we need to describe his style colors technique and the movement he belongs to and that can sometimes be tricky but I've got some tips that might help you out [Music] this is a kind of reverse engineering what is done is an image to text the opposite of what we want to do the AI analyzes an image and creates a prompt based on what it saw and well I'm going to show you a couple of options for making this happen first try mid-journey's describe command to reverse its function rather than text to image upload an image and mid-journey will Guess The Prompt it dishes out Artistic Styles the movement and a Sprinkle of artists who aren't Jim Flora but share some similar Vibes armed with these tidbits we start cooking up the perfect prompt mixing in our faves and ditching any image specific bits it's all about that trial and error dance learning the moves as we Groove along and hey we can totally try other image to text AI Wizards like clip interrogator I'll drop all the juicy details in this video's description and you know what Tech's always zipping along so if New snazzier Image to text options strut onto the scene I'll keep you in the loop with updates same deal here upload the image and get a description with all this info we can fine tune our prompt even more and see what mid Journey whips up for us so mid-journey Cooks up something pretty rad with this prompt let's see what we've got come on AI you can do it well we've got something here check this out it's playing a harmonium instead of a harmonica but it's cute isn't it and check out this gem okay it's not precisely a gym Flora but it's got that funky Flair it's a bit busy so we'll Jazz It Up by nixing some knickknacks here and there toss on the title with the gym Flora style font and ta-da admire this fabulous artwork well not bad not bad so why don't we continue with our journey through the history of album covers and it's Neil fujita's turn who took the world of album cover design to a whole new level fujita's style was a game changer combining typography and abstract art to create mind-blowing visuals that perfectly captured the vibe of the music from Dave brubeck's timeout to Charles mingus's Mingus AUM fujita's iconic designs left a lasting impression on the music scene alrighty you're the organs donors yeah free jazz with analog stuff and you're hunting for a Nifty track cover for your latest composition don't sweat it fujita's on the case this round we're rolling with clip interrogator we snag the output and hang on to your hats this time we're hitting the dance floor with Dolly too why you ask just cause we crib the description of fujita's Masterpiece and voila I'm digging this one we're using a Fujita as our Muse plugging in our Dolly 2 image slapping on the record company's logo applying an appropriate font pulling colors from the painting and boom check out this spiffy album cover [Music] ah as a designer myself I'm seeing my job disappearing and on top of that you're whipping up riffs on another person's creativity I see where you're coming from but I'd like to clarify that what I'm doing is not copying but rather drawing inspiration from the Masters art throughout history has always built upon what came before it we learn interpret and innovate I'm harnessing the power of AI to explore new creative Avenues but the artistic Vision behind it is still uniquely human let's consider this a collaboration between technology and human creativity rather than a replacement after all it's your designer's eye that guides the AI thank you them there came a time when photos became all the rage and album cover design with photographers turning the tables and shaking things up right from the get-go we had cats like Pete Turner who turned heads with his trippy color-soaked snaps he laid down some truly iconic covers for CTI records especially for the Jazz crowd putting a new spin on album art then we move on to storm thorgerson a man whose unique conceptual style gave visual life to the music of bands like Pink Floyd his meticulously crafted surreal images are still instantly recognizable to this day further along the timeline we run into Anton Corbin whose Moody monochromatic portraits played a key role in defining the visual identities of bands such as U2 and Depeche Mode in the Contemporary scene Danny clinch has made waves with his intimate documentary style approach he's worked with a broad spectrum of artists from Bruce Springsteen to Tupac Shakur cementing his place in the modern music landscape each of these photographers brought their own unique Vision to the world of album covers inspiring New Waves of artists and shaping the way we visually connect with music and yeah there's probably a whole bunch of people I'm not giving a shout out to here folks I'm not mentioning but they are absolute rock stars in the history of album covers covers that are amazing like these and even others that are more on the quirky side which I totally dig and yes I know they are a band of robots that play violins the robiolins say no more leave it to me and the Master Pete Turner and well obviously artificial intelligence we take a deep dive into the legendary giraffe featured on jobim's waves album pinpointing The Artistic Styles the genius Minds working in those Styles and all the delicious artistic nuances then we feed all this juicy info to our robot buddy and Presto we craft this fantastic image alright and now the usual drill folks we take inspiration from the album cover Splash our image onto it mimic a similar font and boom your very own robot styled album cover is served hey there I'm a Cumbia guitarist and a huge fan of the hyper pop aesthetic say no more this time we use the mid-journey command blend that allows you to upload two images quickly and then looks at the concepts and Aesthetics of each image and merges them into a novel new image I like this one your name and boom what an album cover art hyper pop cumbiero alrighty folks before we call it a day let me give you a sneak peek into my creative Lab First up we have an album cover I crafted for an instrumental hip-hop Masterpiece made with Google Music LM it's got some groovy guitar funky bass and driving drums a true Sonic Delight titled live from the latent space next we've got a raw and real piece for a punk rocker named Aldo p and last but not least this groovy cover I whipped up for the dub Sensations The Lads from Montgomery how's that for a grand finale I've got to give a big resounding shout out to the nobody's Collective without their Rock Solid support I wouldn't be here making these videos so hats off to you Collective for being my steadfast cheerleaders see all you in the next video amigos [Music]
