HOW TO MAKE A VICTORIAN HOUSE MODERN.

we're back in Pasadena today stage in this beautiful two-story Victorian style home it's full of dramatic spaces unique detail and even a few secrets you might not expect let's check it out [Music] first impressions matter most you want a buyer's first steps into a new space to leave an immediate and memorable impression behind this beautiful and really heavy front door is a spacious living room with traditional detailing and light fixtures your eye is immediately drawn to that amazing mantel which is flanked by two very modern bookshelves it's gonna be our job today to fill in the space and these shelves without overpowering the national focal piece in the room the space alone is impressive it's going to be our challenge to create that sense of home that any potential buyer is gonna relate to let's get to work what do we got here well they're looking a lot better I just really need that rug okay well because I think we need to figure out what the furniture placements gonna be here yeah I'm a little iffy on my shelf scape oh my god on the right side say this one I wish I was six foot tall he's so much easier that's done done is perfect now got is very perfect okay typically I don't like meeting a so far from the back side but in this room there is really no other way to put it so a sofa table is always the solution when you have to see the back of a sofa first it looks great can style it out that's what we do [Music] the dining room has some really great features that would definitely set the space a graphic wallpaper coffered ceilings of super bold chandelier because there are already so many bold elements in the room will be keeping things fairly minimal as to avoid too much on [Music] the kitchen and family-room are all one continuous space split up by an informal dining area there is a mash-up of styles that blends period-specific fixtures with a moderate color pattern okay so family room is really cool room I'm gonna let it showcase it or something I think pull it away well it's really crowded it's a problem what if we just move this out and more into the space bringing lots of plants into a space is one of our signature moves it just makes the room feel so much more lush and vibrant sometimes less is more and this is definitely [Music] [Music] just outside the breakfast nook there's a small back patio and we really want that to set the tone for the rest of the yarn and so what we're gonna do is we're gonna add a couple things and bring the colors from the inside out the master bedroom is really one of the standout spaces in this house bright and big it's full of the same amazing detail that makes this house so unique another sculptural fireplace is flanked by some beautiful traditional wall sconces making that the focal point of the room a bay window overlooks a rooftop balcony this space is all about relaxation will keep things nice and neutral loose and playful pops of color will create a space that is warm and inviting perfect for unwinding it I need a floor plan in here your sister needs to be more green all right I found your little bush that is perfect come on lots of green really I was joking no it's now it's like a whole global movement in here it looks much better that's really oh my god oh you didn't mean it right here okay right oh good because I was like so what here yeah no yeah with what you just aren't the only unfortunate thing [Music] all right we are all done today I think we did an excellent job of blending the classic Victorian detailing to our kind of cooler bohemian vibe yeah we made it feel really comfy and for a potential buyer to envision living here [Music] we'll see you next time thanks for watching you [Music]
