all right guys if you want to know how to make a really simple Kydex sheath like this stay tuned we're going to show you how to do it I'm going to make another little fold over style sheets for my Maura garberg so I've really been wanting to make a sheath for this thing so that's what we're going to do today stay tuned I'm gonna show you how to do it all right so like I said we're going to go through making a little fold over style sheath like this uh so it's super easy you don't have to have as many materials and stuff such as these little eyelets so we've got a little baggie of those simple little eyelet Setter and then we've got some little Chicago Screws right here and that's used to attach our accessory and in this video we're just making a little belt loop and that's going to be it all right let's get into this we need a sheath so what I'm going to do is lay the knife here I really want a little bit of excess down here on the handle that way I can trim that down and really shape it how I want to you just really want to make sure you have enough excess down here we are going to make a little drain hole in the bottom of this thing but I'm going to move this over and we're just eyeballing this it doesn't have to be extremely perfect but I do want to have room over here to put my eyelets so I'm going to do is make my Mark here where I want the fold I'm gonna do the fold about right there and then what we're going to do is just measure you don't have to be super precise we're going to measure that distance and that's going to give us the amount of room that we need to make our fold and stuff okay so I'm going to do now I guess I could use this triangle all we're going to do now is make our line all right then we're going to make a cut okay then it just pops so the next thing I'm going to do is go ahead Heat this up so I can get it folded over and then we're going to drill out the little eyelet holes here and kind of get our sheath shaped out the way we want it before we actually heat it up all the way and then put it in our little cutex press we have here so this is like the easiest way that you can go through and do it all right I just got a simple heat gun that I got off Amazon for I think it was only like 15 bucks we're just gonna Heat this up enough to where we can make a fold nothing crazy at this point [Applause] you want to make sure not to get it too far Too Close you don't want to burn a burnt heat gun but you can do pretty [Applause] really just want to focus on the center there [Music] all right we're getting close now I'm gonna take a little bit of that foam pad and press down just a little bit so what we're going to do is go through and I'm going to drill out holes for the eyelets and also kind of shape how I want the knife to be in there and we're just going to use our pencil really want some retention probably right here right here and I'm saying about a half inch away from the blade all the way through okay and then we're not going to worry about the drain hole yet what we're going to do is just go through and drill these out and then we're gonna put the eyelets in all right got the drill [Applause] [Music] that's going to be left over with some of these little Burrs and stuff just because the plastic got hot let's like just take one of these little utility knives I'm just gonna clean that up a little bit because that is going to affect how the grommets gonna go into it one thing don't forget is inside where we had to push through that first set a lot of times the inside will be a little a little messy so I like to clean that up too all right we got it cleaned up pretty good let's go ahead and put the grommets in okay we got the little eyelet stuck in there we're gonna place it on the little base get our grommet setting tool and we're going to start just giving it some light taps with our hammer every now and then we're going to check it because what will happen is a lot of times you won't get this thing please set and you can kind of see how it's getting rounded this one pretty pretty well set in there good it's not perfect but as long as it's not split cracked and stuff like that I don't really care how pretty it looks but we're gonna go ahead and do that for all three of the rest right here and then we'll catch back up with you all right we got the eyelets set we're gonna go through and get this heated up really good now and then we'll put the knife in it and throw it in the Kydex press so right now you can't really tell what this is going to look like because we're going to shape it after we're gonna go ahead and get this thing heated up with heat gun put in here and we'll catch up with you all right we're gonna tape off the knife that way we're not scratching knife when we're pulling it in and out of the sheath so if you've never seen a codex Crest before they're super easy to make uh check out my video above on how to make this DIY Cut Express it's really super easy and I think this was like only like 15 bucks so really really handy you do need to have some type of device to clamp it down with so I'm going to use this right here hold it with some pliers [Applause] I'm just going to consistently Heat this up that way I don't want to burn the plastic and also it'll discolor too if it gets too much heat applied to it I don't want this really malleable [Music] [Applause] [Music] so we're making sure it's really close and put my drain hole screw in here and get that really really close and then put the clamp on pretty difficult doing this holding the camera too sitting down really tight we're gonna let this sit for probably around 10 minutes that way the sheath has time to cool down a little bit while it's in here before we take it out and see what it looks like a lot of times I found out because I'm not a pro at doing this this is just an easy way I like to do it but sometimes it's not going to be perfect I have to reheat the sheath and kind of just move the knife around a little bit to get it where I want it so that is the beauty of Kydex you can keep forming it and forming it and retrying and whatever because not everybody's gonna do it perfect the first time because it's it is kind of difficult to do um if it is your first time but uh overall not too hard we'll catch back up with you in about 10 minutes hopefully it's good this time yes yeah can't complain with that then what we'll do is maybe take the heat gun and work this around make a little thumb ramp there then we'll just start shaping this thing out all right the next step here is we're actually just going to draw out the shape that we want the sheath to be and then we'll take our knife kind of cut off some stuff and then take our Dremel tool and smooth it all out here we go only reason I left the knife in here is just kind of give me a handle to work with it's the only reason right look a lot better so that's the basic outline of it so we're just gonna take a Dremel tool kind of shape this up a little bit more get it where we want it to show you that it does work there's good retention there go ahead and take the tape off this was just regular masking tape if you were wondering all right it's gonna work good let's get it shaped up and what I'm going to do now is take the heat gun I'm going to heat up this little area right here I'm going to make like a little thumb ramp so that's what we're going to do with this and then we'll probably come back and trim up this just a little bit too thing is you don't want to heat up the rest of the sheath too much really just want this little end right here all right so to put the final touches on the sheath here to make sure it's gonna be smooth I'm just taking this little drywall sanding block right here and it's kind of a fine grit and all we're going to do is kind of just buff the sides of it and I feel like this just kind of Smooths everything out makes it really nice smooth gets rid of all the Burrs and stuff on the plastic so that's what I like to do you don't have to do this could use something else there we go nice and smooth now we're going to make the belt loop for it and what I'm going to do is pull out some materials for that we got an old military webbing belt that we're going to use for the actual Loop and then we're going to use just some leftover Kydex to make the little Mount piece all right so we just have this old military style belt probably about an inch and a half thick and what we're going to do is just find out how big we want to make our Loop and then I'm just going to make the cut and then what we're going to do is make two holes put two of the grommets through there and then that's going to hold it together and then we'll go ahead and mount that to a plastic piece that's going to mount it to the sheath itself we got the loop kind of where we want it I'm just going to go ahead and slice this with our knife you want to take a lighter and burn off the little ends here and we don't have any frame melt that up nice to the other side all right so that's our Loop I'm not sure what we're gonna do with the plastic piece all right we got this piece cut out so it's gonna sit on there like that we'll obviously clean this up it's gonna Bend back we're gonna attach the webbing right here to the back and that's gonna be it but what we have here is a little press that I made for bending things like this so you're gonna heat it up and then we'll put it in there and you can press it down like that just a simple little tool that I kind of created for this we're going to start heating up the plastic again [Music] go ahead and kind of pinch it in there like that sandwiched in there give it chance to cool down all right we marked our holes here we're going to drill them out we'll clean that up and we'll put the webbing on it so I want the Chicago Screws facing out this way so I can tighten them all right this one's going to be just right it's flush fitting and we'll get the screw on top all right so do the other side all right there we go nice little Loop everything will flatten out over Tom but it looks pretty tag on good now we're just going to tighten these things down all right these are tight so this is our little attachment right here for the belt loop let's go ahead and grab the sheath and we'll put it on there too all right we're gonna go ahead and put these in I've already found the right one for it all right [Music] I'm going through right now just trimming up the little edges here from the belt loop it's cutting away what I don't need it just just so it makes it look nicer it's super nice we're just gonna take a Dremel grind this down now [Music] [Music] all right guys thanks for checking out the video we finally got it finished thing looks awesome this is definitely probably the best knife sheath that I made so far and you may be asking yourself why does it look so shiny and you know the imperfections and stuff are gone that's because I actually took a little bit of flat black spray paint and touched it up because the Chicago Screws I have they weren't black and I really wanted to match the sheets so we went ahead and did that I think it just looks awesome so it's super functional and I think it's gonna be a really nice addition to this more garberg so super easy guys give it a shot I'll leave the links to the Kydex and the Chicago Screws and things like that in the description box the eyelet press and overall super easy DIY if you're looking to make something of your own and it's pretty cool customizing stuff so guys check these out all right guys thanks for watching this is how you make a DIY codex sheath
